“Well it is past, your past. Just like yesterday is past. For instance a week ago we were at the starbase. Those experiences and events are past, but that doesn’t mean the star base and those there are now gone. They are continuing in their present just as your friends on the Chernov are doing. Past doesn’t mean ancient history, just what came before.” She reached over for a mug off her desk and sipped at it. “What do you think you will want to do while you here on Leviathan. You should have something to keep you busy and not just sit around.”

“I was alone on the Chernov, Kula was back on Galdor until the incident that led to our… transport into this timeline,” Mwezi answered in response to the counselor’s statement. Her question gave him pause. He actually sat still for several moments before replying, silently reaching out his senses to the only other of his species on the ship. Getting a feel of her emotional state from their empathic connection, he spoke again. “She’s content, although being less used to Starfleet has made her slightly uncomfortable. She’s bored, mostly. She’s set herself to some research goals - she’s trying to fine out what she can about the divergence in timelines between our universe and yours. From the feel of it, she’s found a few details, but not as much as she wants to find. I guess it’s the only thing she feels she can be useful at until we figure out what we can do here…”

“Well I can’t offer anything about work and purpose. That has to be cleared by the command staff. However boredom I might be able to help with. We have art, music, games, and meditation rooms here on this deck. And all the possible materials needed. If there is an art or music medium we don’t have we can always get it. I don’t know how either of you feel about children but we do have a small handful of children and there is a classroom here on this deck as well. If either of you would be interested in contributing to their learning, they always love it when the other adults on board take an interest in them. If either of you have an interest in botany there has been talk of changing the observation lounge into a small green house type area.”

“As for me, I’m not sure. The Captain did mention something about setting us in positions relative to what we already know. Or was it the XO who said that? I don’t remember. The last few days since our arrival and everything related to that have been… pretty stressful for the both of us. I like your way of thinking about the Chernov. That it isn’t ancient history, but as recent a past for me and Kula as the Starbase is for your group. Perhaps they are parallel in that way, due to the circumstances that led to my home timeline being created. Although, I suppose those details might not be as well known in this timeline as they are in our own…” he commented, thoughtful. Mwezi, it seemed, was a fairly philosophical individual.

“I can’t begin to fathom the immense change and strain this has put on you both. Have you and Kula considered doing a small day vacation on the holodeck? There are amazing and wonderous. It would also be a great way for you both to experience the changes that have happened since our…” Watkins paused not sure how to word that, “Everything that has happened since our time lines separated.”

“Regardless, you asked about my role on this ship. Or, what I might do. The job I had on the Chernov seems to have been split into many smaller roles on a larger ship like this. Weapons, Tactical, and Security forces were all lumped into one department in my day. I was in charge of making sure our Torpedoes were well stocked and ensuring that the person firing Phasers and Photon Torpedoes knew what they were doing. I was in charge of Security teams around the vessel, ensuring everyone was well trained and ready for any kind of combat situation. I was in charge of making sure the VIPs, the senior officers, were well protected on away missions. I often acted as personal bodyguard to Captain Taggart, as we had formed a bond of friendship and comradery and he trusted me with his life. Here, it’s not that practical to be doing that many jobs, so I’ve been temporarily placed in the position of Chief Tactical Officer in the place of NLt Hudges, who was killed during the… situation that led to me being here.”

“I’m in charge of weapons’ stores and making sure I and a small team are up to date on weapon use and firing patterns. Whether I stay there is up to my own performance. And whether the higher-ups decide to trust me and Kula with some of the more esoteric parts of this ship’s functions. We already know a lot because of how we ended up here, but whether we’re allowed to know any more that what we stumbled into is… up for debate. If not, we’ll be sent to your little Starbase until they figure out what to do with us in the long run. For now… we help where we can.”

Mwezi, CTO

Watkins nodded, Mwezi had been given a job to do on board, but not Kula. She was more concerned with Kula finding a way to cope with the changes. Mwezi would learn because he had a duty station and a job to focus his efforts. Kula did not, at least not yet. “It sounds like you have a clear idea of the different ways your situation might go. I wish I could offer you a more stable view forward, but unfortunately it’s too soon to tell. I will caution you though that you and Kula have each other and that is amazing, but please reach out if you find that you both are becoming frustrated with each other or on your own and need someone else to listen. That’s totally normal and we are here to help or to listen as we can. For now you’re free to go and I wish you luck.”
