“Canids, aye. Of a sort,” Cobb responded to the Galdori comment, relieved to hear they would not present a conflict. As Hsull continued to talk, the captain poured three coffees, noticing that Hellsing had already prepared something for Cerenity, then carried the mugs to an adjacent booth. The exhale as he lowered himself into the plump, striped cushions, was of unmitigated release after a difficult day. Then regaining some sense of decorum, he nodded for both Luna and Hsull to sit, before spicing his own coffee from a bottle of green Aldebaran whiskey, which he was then eager to offer around.

“The Inquirer?” Cobb replied around a mouthful of coffee. “You intend to keep her docked here? My security team will need to make a full inspection. But we should be able to find her a parking space.” He chuckled at his reference to ancient Earth, before fixing the Caitian with an impish glare. “As for where you’ll conduct your research, I don’t recall having cleared you for duty just yet.”

Placing down his now empty mug, Zachariah refilled it with pure alcohol, before taking a long sip. “As I said earlier, such an interview would not usually be conducted with an audience. So if there are details you wish to reserve for my office then I am willing to accommodate that. But it fascinates me, Mr Hsull, as it always does with new arrivals, what about the study of anomalies interests you? And why, of all vessels in the quadrant, did you accept a commission on the most dangerous one of them all?”

Lance went back to his crossbow at this time his Wolf got up walked over to the captain and took a set by him on the floor wagging her tail happily looking at the new comers. Lance looked up “sorry Captain she likes new people” he said. Then he gave a whistle command the Wolf then walked back over to the floor next to Lance and layed back down. Lance put his crossbow down and started to gives his Wolf a nice back Scratch.

Zachariah was in no measure disturbed by the wolf. In fact, despite his usually solitary nature, he had grown to appreciate and enjoy the menagerie of creatures who had found home on the Leviathan.

Luna the Wolf was enjoying the back Scratch she didn’t know if her leg will ever stop kicking in enjoyment. When the back Scratching was done she went spread eagle on the floor in relaxation.

Hsull took a sip of the coffee, then added more cream and stirred it as he thought over the Captains questions. “I have no problems with the interview being here, the decor is wonderful and this coffee is growing on me.” He placed his cane down beside his leg and wrapped his tail around it to keep it from falling. “As for anomalies, … they are the great unknown, you never know what to expect when encountering one, and we Caitians are naturally curious and always have been explorers, anxious to discover the new and unusual.” Another sip of coffee, more cream and a healthy dolop of the whiskey. “As for the Leviathan; where else could I go to find the best and the worst of all that anomaly kind have to offer ? When this assignment was proposed to me I jumped at it. I’m no longer allowed to fly combat missions and this gives me the chance to fly a bit, investigate a lot of plug-uglies, and satisfy a need to explore and find out just what all is out there waiting for us.” Another sip of coffee, more cream and another dollop of whiskey. “This is quite good. ..... The INQUIRER is a registered Star Fleet research vessel, she’s small but has a lot of specialized equipment packed into where the offensive armament used to be. It can sneak in and sample, record, or just observe, where a larger ship would be spotted immediately. It also has the ability to act as a drone being piloted remotely. I have no problems with your people looking her over, just don’t flip any switches or push any buttons that have red guards over them.” Another swallow of coffee emptied his mug, and he placed it on the table. “K’Haat was given to me when I was recovering at Star Fleet medical by some of the staff there, I’m starting to think she may have been the end product of some breeding program, she’s larger, stronger, faster, and a whole heck of a lot smarter than a normal cat, I feel that she communicates with me on some sort of subconscious level , I just know what she’s thinking somehow.” Hsull sat back and pushed his empty mug to the center of the table. “I hope that answers most of your questions, Captain, anything else ?”

Hsull - CAARS

“Aye,” Cobb nodded in reply. “I would say that covers most of my initial queries. In truth I suspected there to be more of a pull from the Leviathan than mere duty. As it is for all of my crewmembers, it seems. We find ourselves drawn to these anomalies like moths to the proverbial flame.” A quick glance to the neighbouring booth as he added loudly, “Isn’t that right, Mr Hellsing?”

Taking a large sip from his mug, the captain wiped errant drops from his beard with a tunic sleeve. “I daresay, Mr Hsull, that if you have the curiosity and the desire to investigate these anomalies, then you will find opportunities in abundance on this ship. In terms of your research, I tend to employ a mostly hands off approach, so I trust you to know best how to structure your workload and your resources. Although regular updates are appreciated, if for no other reason than personal interest,” he added with a wink.

Luna went pail at the details about K’Haat. ” Do you know what section 31 is” She asked quietly.

Cerenity purked up. ” What is section 31 mommy”. A glar from luna quieted the girl.
Ensign Luna

Cobb’s stomach plummeted at the mention of Section 31, particularly from the mouth of Luna. He knew only too well, as both her captain and her friend, what the secret organisation had done to her. And to her daughter. But in his experience it was a conversation that always ended in trauma and upset.

Hsull was idly twirling his empty coffee mug around on the table top, his barely extended claws making a muted tinkling noise on the ceramic. Suddenly the normal background noise of people talking or the clink of eating utensils ceased, Hsull quickly turned and K’Haat came through the door, the muscles on her back sliding smoothly under her skin. She approached the table and sat down on the floor next to Cerenity, placing herself between Cerenity and the wolf lying on the floor. She looked at Hsull and her golden eyes seemed to twinkle. “How did you..........., oh never mind I know you can open doors or cabinets or just about anything else you’ve a mind to.” K’Haat just sat quietly, occasionally looking at the wolf and rubbing her head against Cerenity’s leg. “Hsull turned to the others in the booth, see what I mean ? She sensed the wolf through me somehow, and knew we were talking about her, so decided to make sure Cerenity was safe and see what all the talk was about.” K’Haat began a soft purring chortle in the back of her throat. Hsull turned to Luna, “I’ve heard of Section 31, but only rumors and innuendo, what do you know ?” Listening to K’Haat purr, Hsull turned back and looked at the cat again, “Does she look somehow bigger to you than when we left her in my quarters ?”

Hsull - CAARS (Nyaah ha ha, the plot thickens)

Hsull, speaking as K’Haat : As she was straightening and recleaning her fur, K’Haat suddenly sensed a possible danger to the little one and also knew that she was being discussed. She immediately jumped down and standing on her hind legs activated the door control, following Cerenity’s scent down the passageway she headed for the lounge. Not sure if the danger was plausible or not and to prepare, just in case, she stimulated her endocrine system, especially the pituitary gland, by the time she had made it to the lounge she had gained five pounds of muscle and there was enough adrenaline in her system to easily allow her to face a wolf as she now knew that was what she had sensed. Seeing the wolf posed no real threat she sat beside Cerenity and began the chortling purr that allowed her to purge the excess adrenaline from her bloodstream. All seemed to be normal so far, she looked on amusedly as people were getting up and heading for the door. She would never harm anyone or thing unless they posed a threat, to Hsull or now.......the little one.

K’Haat

“Aye, now that you mention it, she does appear a little bigger,” the captain nodded with a side eye to his generous mug of liquor. “She is indeed a most curious companion.”

Luna smiled at Cerenity. ” Cerenity sweety why don’t you introduce K’haat to the fish” Luna suggested knowing Cerenity could talk for hours about the different fish in the tank. Cerenity grinned “come ok K’haat let go see the fish” she said as she hoped out of her seat and headed off to see the fish. Luna breathed a sigh of relief.

She turned to Hsull. ” I know them better than I should but Genetics experiments are something they do. I was wondering if K’haat could be a product of one of there experiments and yes she does look bigger” luna said gently. There was more to what she was saying but she would hold off on her own story for now.
Ensign Luna

Hsull continued to idly twirl the coffee mug around on the table as he considered all the implications of what they were discussing . He looked across the table at the until now silent officer sitting there. “Lt. Van Helsing isn’t it ? You’ve been awfully quiet during all this.” Hsull pushed his empty mug out for a refill, “I’ll have what the Captain is having, it appears I’ve brought my own anomaly along with me.” He sat back quietly and waited for his mug to be filled. “I was out of it for quite a while in medical, I wonder what they might have done to me ? I know I have a cloned heart, a new hip, a bio-mechanical left eye, and a damned tail I can’t get used to, what else might they have done ? You’re EMH checked me over and apparently didn’t find anything unusual.” The aforementioned tail suddenly jerked straight up, dropping the cane. “It’s all starting to make sense now, why I was offered this particular assignment, why I was given K’Haat at medical, we’re both part of some far fetched experimental program Section 31 dreamed up!” Hsull realized he was standing now and his claws were fully extended, the tail swishing back and forth rapidly, his anger at being used and manipulated was growing by the second. At the sound of the cane hitting the floor and the tone and volume of Hsull’s voice changing, K’Haat herded Cerenity back to the table and stood facing the enraged Hsull, she rose up on her hind legs and placed her paws on his shoulders, staring into his eyes......, Hsull stared into those golden orbs and felt a sense of calm come over him, he sensed that they were both in this together, and together they would get through it, He calmed and sat back down, feeling suddenly very tired. “Maybe I’ll just have the coffee after all.”

Hsull - CAARS( BUMP to Lt. Van Helsing )

Ignoring Hsull’s final eshewing of the alcohol, Cobb filled the caitian’s mug to the brim, in part hoping that it might soothe his rising temperament and in part merely enjoying the sharing of good liquor with another.

Lance finished watching something on his crossbow “well ISAC was only doing a contamination check to make sure you weren’t bringing anything I’m bored. And I would prefer that you call me Dr. Hellsing” he said as he went to the replicator and get a fresh pot coffee and carried it over for Hsull.

Luna had really wished the cat had not brought cerenity back. She put a gentle hand of Hsull’s shoulder. ” If you are your not alone.” With her free hand she pulled a father from her wing and handed it to Hsull. ” I can’t explain now” She said glancing at Cerenity. Then handed the feather to hsull. ” But if you look at the DNA from this it’s self explanatory. ” luna said. Trying to tip toe around the fact that she was a genetics experiment of section 31.
Ensign Luna

Hsull took the feather and placed it carefully in his jacket pocket. He sat back down and proceeded to refill his mug, adding cream. “K’Haat why don’t you and Cerenity go back and finish looking at the fish ? I’m fine now.” He reached down and retrieved his cane as the two headed back toward the aquarium. Taking a sip of the coffee, “Thank you Dr. Hellsing.” He took the feather out of his pocket and held it up as he looked Luna straight in the eyes, “Does the little one know ?” Strange, he thought, that he would now refer to Cerenity as <the little one>.

Hsull - CAARS

” No she does not as far as she knows we are human” she started quietly after cerenity wondered off to the fish tank again. ” I was three when they started tampering with my DNA cerenity interested the genetic ummm… Enhansmints from me she was not created in a lab” luna quickly clarified.
Ensign Luna

Hsull watched K’Haat and Cerenity as they stood near the aquarium, it appeared that Cerenity was pointing out the various fish and telling K’Haat their names. Turning back to Luna, “I’m sure you realize that eventuallly she will realize she is different than other children. She can actually fly,.....I assume you have the same ability?” Hsull took a long sip from his mug. “Dr. Hellsing, would there be any way to see if they’ve done something to myself, or do I just have to see what manifests itself. I still can’t believe they just do this sort of thing with no accountability or regard for later consequences.”

Hsull - CAARS

Luna gave a regretfull smile. ” she already knows she is different. Yes I can fly I use to drive the pilots at the Academy crazy with the stunts I could pull off” she said with a grin. She watched Cerenity and K’hett.

” the can and do. Do things with out accountability” luna said coldly. Her agitation was not made at Hsull but it was clear this conversation was difficult for her. ” if it was them your lucky you were asleep for it” she added quietly.
Ensign luna

Hsull gently laid a large furred hand on Luna’s shoulder, “I am sorry that, that happened to you as a child, I can’t even begin to imagine how horrible that must have been.” He looked to where Cerenity and K’Haat were observing the fish, if he didn’t know better he would swear they were having a deep discussion. “At least the little one was spared the barbarity of it. ” Hsull lifted his hand from Luna’s shoulder and held it up in front of his face, extending his claws fully, ” I wish there were a way to hold them accountable!”

Hsull - CAARS

” Not unless you wish to be charged with treason or assault of a fellow officer,” she said shaking her head. She looked over to Cerenity and the cat. ” Unfuchunitly things may not stay that way for her. She will have to know the truth eventually but for not it best she stays in the dark on this. If it was section 31 though they will come after you eventually” Luna said calmly
Ensign Luna

Hsull idly twirled the coffee mug on the table top as he considered what Luna had said, Cerenity and K’Haat were still looking at the fish. ” I guess we’ll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it, ........as they say. I think Cerenity and K’Haat may be able to communicate with each other on some level, at least it seems that way, I know that I just sort of feel what she’s thinking.” He filled the mug, added the requisite cream and added a dollop of whiskey. “I just wonder if K’Haat will continue to grow, she’s all ready almost too large to fit into the INQUIRER without modifications,....there’s a lot of questions to be answered and only time will tell on some of them.”

Hsull - CAARS

Finally releasing the breath he had inadvertently held, Cobb ran a hand through his long, silvering hair.
“One of the Federation’s greatest achievements,” his eyes skipped from Hellsing to Luna and then Hsull, “has been selling to its member planets the myth of utopia. Through Starfleet we uncover the most noble and accomplished versions of ourselves. We are offered purpose, the opportunity to advance, to develop, to contribute. To play a part in the greater good.”
He drained his liquor in one gulp.
“What a huge pile of steaming targ crap. And there is not a single man or woman onboard this vessel who doesn’t know it. For truly this is the price of entry to the ARU. To have the curtain not only pulled back but torn to miniscule shreds. To see the Federation as it truly is, no more than a collection of disparate groups and organisations, all scrambling to come out on top.”

He sat back and locked eyes with each person in turn. “And nowhere is that more evident than in the cruelty and the perversion of Section 31.”
