Hey all,

so I found out today I have a detached retina and need surgery next week to fix it. I’ve been ordered to move as little as possible over the weekend, so in the interest of resting my eye as much as possible I’m going on LOA until it’s all done! Sorry!

  • Sharon

Best wishes, and hope all goes well. Take care of yourself.

David

I’m sure ISAC will watch over you

Hope you get better soon, best regards.

Hjortur

Ouch! Best of luck to you, Sharon. Here’s to a speed recovery. :)

Hey again all,

so a bit of an update for those of you who don’t go in discord - my initial operation went well and I was sent home the next day, only to suddenly lose all sight in that eye. So now I’m onto my 4th day of being back in the hospital due to post-op complications. They’re reasonably happy with my progress but have not indicated when I might get to leave yet - or when I might be able to see again. So for now all I can really do is extend my LOA and keep you all updated as best as I can.

Thank you to everyone who has kept the ship going. I will try and make a couple of posts later if I have the energy and hopefully it won’t be too long until we’re back to where we left off!

  • Sharon

Thank you for the update, and prayers and best wishes for a rapid and full recovery.

David

best wishes for your health!

Hey again all,

so I’ve been out of the hospital for a week now but I still can’t see out of the eye that I had the surgery on. I’m back with the surgeons for a check-up tomorrow, at which point they will decide whether I’m going to need a further surgery or whether I can just let my eye heal naturally (that might take months for me to regain my sight). As always I will keep you up to date as soon as I know more. If I do have the surgery then it will be one day this coming week and I’ll expect to be kept in the hospital for a few days afterwards again, just to make sure I don’t pick up another infection.

Once again thank you all for your patience and for keeping the ship going in my absence.

  • Sharon

2nd surgery scheduled for this coming Thursday. I’ll be kept in the hospital overnight then hopefully back home on Friday. Will try and catch up on posting later today/tomorrow ahead of going back on LOA.

  • Sharon

Hey again all,

had my second surgery on Thursday and came home from the hospital yesterday, but not going to lie, this one has knocked me for six and I’m really struggling this weekend. I have another check-up on Monday, after which I should know more about my long-term prognosis and whether I stand to regain any sight in this eye or not. So it’s doubtful that I’ll post before then so once again all I can do is thank you all for your patience and for bearing with me through something that has turned into an incredibly difficult time.

  • Sharon

Good luck and god speed. Take it easy and don’t stress your eye.

Chris

Sorry all. I’m back in the hospital again with further problems. This just goes on and on… :’(

  • Sharon

So sorry this is so long lasting. Know that thoughts and prayers are with you.

David

I agree.

Chris

My (hopefully) final check-up is scheduled for tomorrow morning, after which if everything is okay I should get discharged from the hospital and be able to get back to normal life again. Yay! I know I keep saying this, but seriously thank you all so much for bearing with me and for doing a fantastic job of keeping the ship busy with some fascinating side sims! You’re all wonderful!

  • Sharon

I hope it goes well!

  • Jake

I do agree with Jake honestly. I hope it does goes well.

Chris
