Adam made his way across the tall decks of Leviathan with a purposeful stride. Junior officers jumped out of the way, they always misunderstood his expression as a grim or angry look when in fact he was simply deep in thought, he was currently on his third draft of his report to the ARU Intelligence division, he wasn’t sure how he could put it in two words that they had lost both the Captain and first officer in a matter of hours, that combined with the actions of an Admiral within the ARU, well it didn’t translate to easy writing. Suddenly he stopped, he’d reached his destination, the office of the new First officer, a Commander Rhansi. He went through the information he’d read up on the Barzan Officer before raising his hand, pressing the chime and waiting for a response.

“Come,” Rhansi called, looking over more cargo manifests for the ship’s restock from the starbase. He glanced up as the doors hissed open, setting aside the PADD as he saw the officer standing there, his mind once again idly wondering why Starfleet doors still used pneumatic opening and closing mechanisms instead of quiter and more efficient magnetic ones; but maybe he just preferred the Barzan design he’d helped build. He shoved the stray thoughts away as he stood, pulling air across his breathers in a quiet sigh of relief from the banal duties.

“Commander Magnusson,” he greeted the man. Former Starfleet Intelligence; many years as tactical officer aboard many ships; and much combat under his belt, he reminded himself. “A pleasure to meet you,” he continued. “I’m sorry I haven’t had the time to visit you myself but…” he gestured at the pile of PADDs on his desk. “They’ve been keeping me busy with minutiae while the captain is being briefed on the ARU and our next mission.”

He waved a hand to one of the two chairs across the desk. “Please, have a seat. How can I help you?”

XO Rhansi

Adam nodded and walked towards Rhansi’s desk, but before sitting down he placed a single PaDD on the table “My report from before your arrival” He simply said before sitting down “It should already be in the system but I thought it was a good enough excuse to meet you” He spoke in a stiff tone, his expression was hard, wooden. He had a reputation as a tense man and he usually lived up to it “Captain Mackenzie assigned me as acting first officer until you were assigned here, sir.” His face hardened even more, which seemed an impossibility until he did it “We didn’t have a lot of command capable staff upon our return trip”

CIO

Rhansi sighed and nodded his head. “My condolences on your losses, Commander,” he told the man. “Losing even a single officer is hard, but to lose both of them… saying it is difficult would be a disservice, I feel.” He paused to let that statement ring for just a moment. “I will be making sure the crew has adequate access to ship’s counselors, and starbase personnel while we’re here.”

Adam’s only reply was a simple grunt and nod. He crossed his legs then interlocked his fingers and placed them on his thighs.

He sat on the corner of the desk, almost more of a lean than anything, crossing his arms on his chest “So what may I do for you today, Commander?”

XO Rhansi

The Intelligence officer looked up at the first officer, eyes analytical as he seemed to scan the man’s features carefully “I guess you could call this an unofficial interview and a way to get to know each other. For other officers, I’d find a more natural way to get to know you but it’s harder with a direct superior to involve myself.” He said, his tone softening, speaking calmly “That is if you don’t mind, sir”

CIO

Rhansi shrugged, returning the other man’s look. “Not at all - either from the perspective of your office or from the perspective of one of my officers. I like getting to know them, their personalities, motivations, as well - I find it helps to keep a crew well integrated.”

He paused, shifting slightly on the desk as he studied Magnusson. “It’s obvious, of course, that I am not from a Federation member world,” he said, thinking it best to get that out of the way. “Though I am now a Federation citizen. Does that concern you, in your position?”

XO Rhansi

OOC: Bump - I just returned from LOA myself after an illness, so don’t worry about missing this one. I’m doing a lot of catching up myself lol.
