ISAC was in sickbay with a very upset crewman. He was not happy that his bones were getting set by a EMH.

ISAC: stay still I am almost done.

Crewman to the nurse: so if I get hurt and need surgery who will do it.

ISAC: me or the other doctors

Crewman to the nurse: no offense but I don’t want a holographic treating me in surgery.

ISAC rolled his eyes to himself. Most of the crew were fine and open to him but a few have holographic phobia. They treat him like he tri corder not an officer a few time after treating a patient some of the days Computer DA activate EMH. ISAC only used the ships hollow matrix when his projector is charging.

Afterwords he put in the crewman’s file he’s complaint. Not sure if anything will come from it

Lt. ISAC EMH (ACMO)

Laural was just finishing up some clinical notes when tone from her computer alerted her a personnel complaint had been filed against a member of the crew. Wit had not served long aboard the Leviathan, but in past postings, the counseling staff had been encouraged to keep abreast of complaints filed by members of the crew is one way to keep tabs on the crews’ overall welfare. Most of the time, the complaints weren’t anything that required a counselor to get involved, but on occasion, it was helpful to be “in the know.”

In this case, Laural decided to investigate further. Perhaps she was motivated because like the holographic EMH, some people were skeptical about whether a person can find to a grav chair could really attend to their physical and mental wounds. Perhaps she sought as just another extension of her unique position of the Leviathan to care for beings that weren’t entirely understood.

Whatever the reason, she entered Sickbay in search of the EMH to learn more. “Excuse me,” Laural offered to a passing nurse, “where might I find Lieutenant ISAC?”

The lights flickered off cold air rushed in as the lights turned back on in the Center of sickbay was A plague doctor. “ I am Lt. ISAC what can I do for you Counselor”

Witley rubbed both of her arms as she felt the cold air pass by her. Puzzled, but undeterred from what brought her here, she offered, ” I received a report about a patient of yours and I wanted to discuss it. Should we get somewhere more private?” She wanted give him the option as she would any other crew member. Just because he was a bit different didn’t mean he wasn’t deserving of the same respect.

ISAC lead the way to an empty office “we can talk in here counselor” he said sounding a little annoyed.

Laural followed him to the office, the quiet hum of her grav-chair ever present as she moved. When the doors closed and they had sufficient privacy, she offered, “I’ve received a complaint from one of your recent patients. I know how upsetting that can be as a clinician, and I just thought I’d see if there was something I could do to help address the situation? My intention is not to take sides, but to better understand what happened.”

ISAC pulled his book out “yes crewman Ricky he was asking nurses questions not be and after I was done the fool tried to shut me off as if I was a tricorder. He is not the only person who did that some of the crew don’t see me as an officer some of them act like I am not here” he said

“I am sorry,” Laural offered, empathizing with not being taken seriously because of her outward appearance and what people assumed she was capable of (or more accurately, not capable of,) because of her disability. “Would you be open to discussing this issue with him if I acted as a mediator?”

~Laural Witley

ISAC looked at her “no he will only make fake promises and go right back to being rude. I have seen this behavior from when I first got here” ISAC have had enough of this Officers poor attitude to him.

Lt. ISAC EMH (ACMO)

Laural wasn’t about to contradict ISAC. Although she didn’t know that to be true about this particular officer, she had no reason to challenge him on the idea, and more importantly, doing so would only make him feel more misunderstood and unheard. She had dealt with her own degree of prejudice, and in her experience, some people changed and some people didn’t. Still, she was mindful not to let her own experiences color her support for the EMH.

“I have no reason to doubt what you’re saying,” Wit offered. “You did file this report, however, so that suggests you did so for a reason. I’m only wondering if I can assist you in achieving whatever outcome led you to file the report in the first place?”

~Doctor Laural Witley, Counselor

ISAC looked at her “he needs to understand his actions has consequences. If he can get past his shortsightedness on what is alive. If he can’t do that then he doesn’t belong in Star fleet. Because I am alive but there are a few out there who don’t see me as alive but I am. As an AI I have gone past my original programming and made myself mobile and fully able to learn new things. But I am not in a sense immortal my program is designed to stop after 80 years”

Lt. ISAC EMH (ACMO)

Laural listened respectfully as the EMH spoke. She didn’t disagree with his assessment and could understand to some extent that he didn’t want to be involved any further. It wasn’t his problem, after all. That said he had filed a complaint, and that required taking his desires into consideration. “I do hear what you’re saying, Doctor, and rest assured, there will be consequences for him. As the aggrieved party, I think it only fair that you be able to offer input into what those consequences should be. The ultimate decision will fall to his chief, but if it were up to you, what punishment do you think is required?”

~Dr. Laural Witley, Counselor

ISAC looked at her then smiled “ according to ship records the exhaust manifolds have not been scrubbed in a year. When he is scrubbing he should have plenty of time to rethink his actions”

Lt. ISAC EMH (ACMO)

Laural kept her face inscrutable. The punishment seemed a bit excessive, but she was not about to volunteer her opinion after asking his. Instead, she offered, “I will make your desires known, but I can’t guarantee what the punishment will be. In the meantime, I’d recommend re-considering that sit-down. Behavior can be extinguished by punishment, but the beliefs and emotions that gave rise to it are only confirmed when an ignorant person remains ignorant because he doesn’t get exposed to those he needs most if anything is going to change.”

ISAC rolled his eye “as I thought it was a waste of time. Organics are never going to get punished for how they treat us holographic‘s” after afew second of silence “ sit down with him would be useless. He lacks understand” at all his time ISAC shut himself off

Lt. ISAC MH (ACMO)

Laural was about to open her mouth when the EMH simply blinked out of existence. “That went well,” she offered to no one in particular before turning around and heading back to her office.

~Doctor Laural Witley, Counselor

ISAC watched her leave from the sensors “ that a wast of time” he said to himself.
