After much planning with Lieutenant Commander Vrenek, Iphigenia sent out a shipwide communication to the crew and asked everyone to report to the main conference lounge. There was nothing more important than getting the crew prepared for any future battles since there was a significant number of new crew aboard the ship and everyone needed to be trained on the protocols of the Anomaly Recovery Unit. She had spent hours reviewing the files that the previous Commanding Officer of the ship had left behind.
A few extra chairs were brought into the conference room to accommodate everyone, even though some would still have to stand if they had not arrived early enough to claim a seat.

Henao, CO

Chief Tactical Officer Mown Gworl, the Catian Lieutenant, rushed from his quarters to the conference lounge upon hearing the communication from the Captain. His plan was to see the others arrive and enter when a group of the others was heading in.

He paused before the door–best not to appear too overeager the first time meeting everybody–and sidled into a corridor, watching the conference room door. His left ear twitched and he scratched it with his paw, quietly jangling his earring.

Kit grabbed her PaDD and headed to the conference room. As she was rounding the corner towards the conference room, she saw a Caitain watching the conference door. She sidled up to him, “Hello, stalling out here is going to make you have to stand in the conference room, plus it will not get you out of the briefing.”

-Lieutenant j.g. Kitiuas Thenis, CSO

Mown yowled and jumped a little, surprised. He’d been so focused on the door that the officer had surprised him. His whiskers bristled and smoothed as he collected himself to meet his fellow officer.

“Good point,” he said. “I just didn’t want to be first in, you know? Chief Tactical Officer Mown Gworl, by the way. Would you like to enter together?”

-CTO Mown Gworl

A voice sounded behind the two officers “Military Tradition Lieutenant” Somehow there was always a shadow in a corner or somewhere on the Leviathan where the ships Intelligence officer could hide, as if he messed with the lights just to step from them in a dramatic fashion… That of course was a ridiculous thought and anyone having them should feel silly for having them. “If you aren’t early you are late” The diminutive officer said as he walked past them, hands clasped behind his back. His tone was almost conversational for him, but for those that didn’t know him it sounded wooden and emotionless.

Amparo left command of Sickbay to a Lieutenant physician before departing for the nearest turbolift with a PaDD clutched in their hand and a neutral look that stuck with them until they emerged on Deck 23.

In a few short minutes, they found themself within metres of the Conference Room and the officers gathered outside. They greeted them with a smile before stepping inside to find an open seat.

— Amparo Álvaro-Byrd

Kit smiled “Pleasure to meet you, I am Kitiuas Thenis; Chief Science Officer. Let’s get on in there, and by the way you will eventually get used to Lieutenant Commander Magnusson and his appearing act from the shadows. Strange man.” She then headed towards the room, “Come on before we end up standing.”

-Lieutenant j.g. Kitiuas Thenis, CSO

“Pleasure to meet you, too,” Mown said, thinking out luod. “I believe the Lt. Commander is the CIO.”

He followed Lt. Thenis towards the conference lounge, his tail bushing languidly behind him.

“I don’t mind standing, but hopefully we can snag seats,” he chatted as the two entered the room. “I’d like to take notes if I need to.”

-CTO Mown Gworl

After receiving the assembly call from the Skipper, NEng Meylan patched Ensign Little for watch duty at the Main Engineering. He, representing enlisted crews in yellow, was expected to show up. He was hoping he could arrive before the Chief Engineer, even though he probably knew how ‘combat ready’ those chairs might be in the conference lounge. After he saw several staff officers in, he did the same himself seamlessly.

NEng Meylan, Master Chief

“Welcome Master Chief, looks like you beat Lieutenant Osedi. Good job.”

NEng Meylan nodded and gave her an after-you gesture, “Pleasure, Lieutenant.” He hoped he didn’t smell like just from a mining facility.

Lieutenant j.g. Thenis stepped into the conference and found a seat. She pulled up information on her PaDD to take notes and know exactly how to assign her crew in the science department to the task at hand.

=Lieutenant j.g. Kitiuas Thenis, CSO

Mown took a seat and was careful to keep his tail out of the way of the floor and coiled it carefully behind him. The last thing he wanted was to feel a crunch and bolt into the air in front of everybody.

-CTO Mown Gworl

As people arrived Iphi paced around the table where they all sat. She took note of those who had not shown up yet before she began her speech, “Exploring and mitigating. That is the crux of what we do on the Leviathan. We are not like the thousands of other Starfleet ships. In fact,” she raised one palm in the air as she continued, “we are one of seventeen who are highly specialized to go into the unknown, encounter creatures and monsters that no one else in the universe believes exists and our task is to contain, study or if we must, destroy these anomalies if they prove to be too dangerous for containment so that they do not make their way into some galaxy and destroy the population there.” She stood for a moment to let them all think about what she just said.

Henao, CO
Fixing split
Ash had been sat at the head of the table with Lieutenant Magnusson for some time, furiously scanning through the endless PaDDs filled with pages and pages of data on the ARU. As both Chief of Security and the head of the Recovery Task force, the young Trill thought it prevalent to know everything she could about her new role on board the Leviathan, bringing what she could remember of her previous host’s command experience along the road ahead with her.

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

It was at that moment that the door opened and the Chief Engineer walked in, still wearing his tool belt and with conduit lubricant on his sleeves. Holding a large coffee cup, he paused just after he stepped inside and looked around the room, his eyes resting for a moment on the Master Chief before moving to the Captain. He was clearly in no hurry nor in any way ashamed of being late.

“Apologies for arriving after you began, Captain. Engineering is in the middle of Warp Core Containment realignment and not all of us were at leisure to leave at that particular moment. I prefer not exploding today.” The very edge of his lips might have twitched in a smirk, but it was maybe too fast for many to catch. “Let me find a seat.”

Adjusting one of the few remaining extra seats, Than sat down, rested his eyes and attention directly on the Captain and took another sip of his coffee.

Lt Osedi, CE

“A valid reason for arriving late.” She said with a smile.”I too prefer the ship not explode and we all die in the middle of an ARU training. Definitely one of the most unwelcomed ways to go…in my opinion. I assume Ensign little stayed behind to hand cleanup and deal with the residual aftermathof the incident.” After the CE took his seat she continued her lecture.

NEng Meylan was surprised a little bit to hear that the Captain remembered one of his crew mates and his name. He remained smirked and quickly turned back to what he came for, the meeting.

NEng Meylan, Master Chief

Today is going to be long boring and tedious day. It cant be avoided because you are all here to learn the proper protocols when you are face to face with a creature who wants to enter your body and explode you from the inside out or take over your mind and every part of you that is…. you. It is not my intention to frighten you.” She covertly looked for any frightened faces or a change in reactions. Those that showed fear probably were not fit to serve on the ship. There was a security Ensign who looked around quickly and nervously. Really? Iphigenia thought, A security officer. He definitely should have wits about him. She made a mental note to hold him and Lieutenant Mavix back after the end of the training.
“I only wish that you increase your understanding and emphasize the danger you placed yourself in when you joined the crew so that may grow in your role here on the ship. Of you, I hand-picked I, and I know you are fearless, and I know you are ready to commit yourselves to this cause as I have done. This is my first command as a Captain, and some say I have gotten the short straw. To Captain, a ship such as this is a potential death threat more so than Captaining any other ship in Starfleet.” There was a pause, “I do not see it that way. I see it as an honor because only the most capable crew are assigned to ships like the Leviathan and to Command any Federation starship always comes with the threat of death. For when you are Captain you are expected to sacrifice yourself for your crew if you have to. On your PaDDs you will find ARU procedures for anomoly containment, breach, defenses, scientific analysis, and medical care.”

Henao, CO

Iphigenia did not expect the crew to not be scared, however, she did expect bravery. Frightened people often made mistakes, dumb ones. Brave people, although scared, knew their priorities. They did what they needed to do and hoped for the best.

Kitiuas gave a quick smile when the captain said her intentions were ’not to frighten you’, she knew damn well the captain was trying to weed out those who showed their fear openly. Fear was a good thing, but only if you kept it under control. To not be afraid was insanity defined; for only the insane claimed not to be afraid. She looked at her PaDD and the data that was on it; and began assessing whom in her department might not be fit to serve on the Leviathan and those who could, but should never be assigned to an ARU team.

-Lieutenant j.g. Kitiuas Thenis, CSO

Leaning back in his chair, Than rested his right ankle over his left knee and finished the coffee in his cup, before placing said cup on the ground beside him. In his own mind, he recounted the time he was trapped, along with the Saracen in a subspace rift between realities while a hostile AI from the Mirror universe tried to take over the ship and eliminate them. Or the time Romulan made terrorist synthetics attempted to hijack the Saracen to commit genocide against the Federation in the hopes of starting a war, and when the Broadsword had encountered something dubbed the ‘Space Kraken’ that wanted to use the ships warp core to feed her babies.

To Than, the truth was that space was full of mystery and the unknown and many ships encountered these dangerous unknowns and despite the odds, lack of specialized equipment and specialized training, survived and successfully resolved those encounters. Of course, some didn’t. The Leviathan was a ship and crew built specifically to deal with these threats, to him it was a waste of energy to be scared until something happened that they couldn’t handle. He let his eyes move around the faces of those present, most he had yet to meet.

Lt Osedi, CE

Saoir walked in and nodded at the Captain. He had been excused from the meeting but had opted to attend after his shift was over. He spied his new friend Lieutenant Osedi and was disappointed when there were no available seats near him. He found a standing spot close to the spooked Ensign and looked over his shoulder to review the information on his PaDD.

Mown paged through the information in front of him, growing more excited about this new posting, but yes–there was also a certain trepidation, too. He knew he had the training and the experience to be a Starfleet officer–and one who was well on-track–but the ARU was a new and interesting challenge and a puzzle box, more than anything.

He kept quiet, his tail twitching painfully behind him, eyes flicking across the material. Almost unconsciously, his claws detracted and retracted in a brief flex. Anticipation before the pounce?

-CTO Mown Gworl

Kitiuas started reviewing the information on ARU teams, she had briefly read up on the concept on her way to the Leviathan but had never gone into it to deeply figuring she would have time when she arrived. Instead the fates had thrown her to the wolves so to say, she became the Chief Science Officer upon her arrival, and now it seemed she was playing catch up with everything.

-Lieutenant j.g. Kitiuas Thenis, CSO

As everyone reviewed the information on their PaDDs there was a loud deafening boom, and the ship shook violently. Several of the crew were knocked from their chairs and seconds later the whole ship went to a red alert. The security Ensign who had been uneasy jumped to his feet, drew his phaser, and aimed it at Saoir’s head. “I want off this ship!” he screamed as he looked around with wide fearful eyes. “I need to get off this ship! Now!”

Mown had ended up under the conference table on all fours, his entire body one live wire. He stood, glari g at the Security Ensign with his hand on his own phaser.

Iphigenia who had also fallen to the ground during the turbulence stood to her feet and dusted herself off. She did not need this right now; something was happening to the ship. “Ensign Zallbred. Put that phaser down, now. You are panicking. Something has happened and I don’t think you are going to be able to go anywhere.”
“I am! I have to! I want off this ship. I will shoot him and then you” he pointed the phaser at Lieutenant Gworl, “and then you,” he pointed the phaser at Lieutenant Thenis. “I will shoot everyone in this room if I have to.” He gripped Saoir’s arm, moved behind him then pointed the phaser at Iphigenia. “However, I will shoot you first.” He said to her. Saoir seemed surprisingly calm during the ordeal.

“Captain, Saoir finally spoke, “I think you should allow me to accompany him to the shuttle bay. I am a pilot, and I can take him wherever he needs to go.”
Iphigenia was incensed at the suggestion; however, she knew she had to remain calm.

Mown pulled his paw from his phaser. He put them in the air, following the Captain’s lead.

“That is not going to happen.” She said firmly. “Ensign, I want you to think about what you are doing. It’s not too late to let Ensign Saoir go.” Zallbred pointed the phaser upward and a blast exploded from it, hitting the ceiling of the ship. Debris came crashing down and several people ducked under the conference table. Iphigenia also dodged, lifting her left arm over her face as she slightly turned her head. However, as her eyes returned to Zallbred all she could think was, Idiot! If whatever made the loud boom doesn’t destroy the ship, he sure will and kill everyone aboard. “Okay, then,” she said as she lifted her hands, “Ensign Saoir is not going to be of any use to you. Take me instead and I will make sure you get to the shuttle bay. I am your only way off this ship.” The only thing she could think of was to get him out of the room and away from all the crew.

Henao, CO

Lieutenant Thenis had rolled under the conference table when the panicked security ensign had fired the phaser. She quickly grabbed her dancerknife from her left boot and flicked it on, there was a very distinctive hum as the barely visible blue blade came to life. She held it between her teeth as she removed a small dart from her right boot and twisted it, breaking the small vial in the center. She then placed the dancerknife in her hand and rolled from under the table. Before the young ensign even realized what had happened she flipped the small dart at him, nicking his neck with the tip, enough to deliver the potent sleep serum in it.

-Lietuenant j.g. Kitiuas Thenis, CSO

Lt. Sharvi was not in the meeting yet as he was on shift for security. He was going to get briefed afterwards from Lt. Mavix. He was close to the conference room heading to the Brig to turn his on duty phaser in when the ship shook violently after a big boom sound. “What was…” he started to ask, after getting his footing back and hearing what sounded like a phaser shot in the conference room, above the red alert. He pulled his phaser out, made sure it was on stun, and opened the door to the conference room. He immediately aimed his phaser at the ensign holding the phaser toward the ceiling. Assessing the scene, he seen only the one ensign had a phaser, and he hoped opening the door would distract the ensign enough that someone else could quickly act.
Lt Sharvi, security

Zallbred grabbed his neck in shock and looked at Lieutenant Thenis, “You Orion bi….” then he began to stumble, and his speech became incoherent as he tried must up the strength to curse out the CSO. Finally, his knees buckled, and before he fell to the ground, he managed to get a couple of shots out of his phaser. One phaser beam hit a Lieutenant Helmsman in the chest and the other barely missed the Chief Engineer. It was so close that he could feel the burn as it passed by his face.

“Lieutenant!” NEng Meylan’s face flashed blue when he saw the beam go an almost direct course to the Chief of his department. Fortunately, he seemed to be alright and still with him. He almost couldn’t help to shout the medical personnel out right here while recovering from the deck’s shake.

Just as Zallbred hit the ground, an NE nurse let out a loud scream as she jumped on the table and cowered covering her head with both her hands. “AHHHH…..she screamed, “HE IS RIGHT! WE NEED TO GET OFF THIS SHIP! WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!” A couple of officers ran to calm and get her off the conference table but she started fighting them ferociously like she was fighting for her life.

Iphigenia ran towards them to assist when Saoir said, “Oh um…..it’s true.” He said in a low voice but loud enough to hear. She stopped and looked at Saoir. His eyes were wide with fear, unusual because Saoir never showed much emotion, and he looked around panicked like he was going to be attacked at any moment. He reached and grasped the back of his neck, “Saoir, are you okay?” Iphigenia asked as she held a hand out to him. The Kelpian backed up slowly, one hand still on his neck and the other cautioning Iphigenia to keep her distance and said, “Stay away from me. I have to get off this ship.” Then without warning, he turned and bolted out the door.

“What in the hell is going on!” Iphigenia yelled as she looked around the room. Then she started giving out orders. The first one was for Lieutenant Mavix, “Lieutenant, get your Ensign to the brig. I want him restrained so I can speak to him when he comes to.” The next one was for Dr. Álvaro-Byrd, “Dr. get the Helmsman to sickbay, Please save him.” She looked back at the hysterical nurse, “Get her off the conference table and give her something so she can calm down. I want to speak to her as well when she is coherent.”

She looked at Lieutenant Thenis and said, “Find Lieutenant Witley and have her meet Dr. Amparo in sickbay so she can figure out what caused the nurse to break. I also want her to do a psych eval on Zallbred after I have spoken to him and on Saoir when I find him. Then I want you to examine blood samples from Zallbred, the Nurse, and Saoir and see if you can find an explanation as to why they are losing their minds. Lieutenant Osedi, you know what to do. Figure out what caused the loud boom and why the ship is on red alert.” Finally, she said to Lieutenant Gworl, “You are with me. Help me track Ensign Saoir down. Then took off through the door.

Henao, CO

Mown shook the dust from his fur and whiskers. First meeting and suddenly, everyone was freaking out. He had really liked the Kelpian Saoir when they’d met earlier. Maybe he and the Captain could calm him down.

Mown rushed after the Captain down a corridor as the others began to follow their orders as well.

-CTO Mown Gworl

‘=^= Mavix to Security, =^=’ Ash called out through her combadge, unsure of whether her Security team would hear her through the sudden din in the conference room, ‘=^= I need a few of you down here to get some… disturbed officers to the Brig to calm ‘em down! =^=‘

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

=^=On our way sir,=^= Ensign Jackson’s voice said through the comm badge.

Zallbred began convulsing on the floor. “He can’t go to the brig.” Another NE nurse said, “We need to get him to sickbay. I think he is having a seizure.” He turned him on his side and then said, “Everyone stay back, stay clear until it passes.”

Lieutenant Thenis replied “Aye, aye Sir.” And flicked her dancerknife off and slide it back into her left boot. She then stepped out into the hallway and tapped her combadge =^=Lieutenant Witley, you are needed in sickbay. You are to assist Doctor Amparo in a matter regarding a crewmember. I am on my way to sickbay to gather samples from said individual. Also be on the look out for any crewmember that suddenly displays outburst or psychotic breaks and demand to leave the ship.=^= she then made her way towards sickbay, with a quick stop by the counselor’s office to ensure she received the message. Like she bloody hell could have not noticed the ship on red alert and the loud boom the ship had suffered. thought Kit as she made her way.

-Lieutenant j.g. Kitiuas Thenis, CSO

Posting Lt Sharvi’s Reply

While the sound of the comm waved the room, NEng Meylan remembered the reason that Lt Osedi came late and whispered to him, “Sir, could this has anything to do with the alignment we had in the Warp core?” He meant the cause of the Alert status and the obvious anomalies of these crews.

NEng Meylan, Master Chief

As they both sprinted from the conference room, Iphigenia said to Mown Gworl, “Something is happening. I know Saoir and he has never acted like that. We must be careful; he could become violent. Whatever this is, seems to inflict with fear then that fear becomes desperation and they become violent.” Her own palms were sweaty and she herself was feeling an edge of panic come over her. No! She thought, I can’t catch whatever this is. She clasped her fist in a tight ball as they made it to a turbo lift the red alert on the ship was still blaring and the flashing of the red lights began to make her head hurt. “Computer, locate Ensign Saoir.”
=^=Ensign Saoir has been located on Deck 13 near an airlock valve.=^= Iphigenia looked at Lieutenant Gworl with wide eyes, “We have to hurry.” She jumped in the tubolift and shouted the deck where Saoir was on.
“Lieutenant. I may have contracted…whatever is happening here. Whatever happens, you must do whatever you must to ensure your safety. Once we secure Saoir, I will check myself in Sickbay for observation.”

Henao, CO

“Cap’n,” Ash began, “If I may, I’d like to come with you and Ensign Saoir to Sickbay, I reckon it will be a good idea to have your Security Chief to keep y’all safe?”

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-
