Jaieh was not much one to share. To the crew, and the captain she projected a closed off image, a strong officer and experienced doctor, but never emotional. It was a requirement however, that a member of ship’s staff deem her emotionally fit for her post on a regular basis. Particularly with a Romulan expatriate, it was a point of high concern for those higher up. Jaieh moved gently and quietly through the halls as she contemplated what hung on the meeting she was rapidly approaching. Coming to the counselor’s office, she reached for the door chime and paused- only momentarily- before pressing it and waiting.

“Come in,” Laural called out, the doers automatically opening to obey her command. As someone who spent her entire life in a chair, which was used to having to make the extra effort in circumstances most other people didn’t think twice about, but she had also learned to conserve her energy where she could without embarrassment, and having her doors open at the sound of her voice had become most convenient.

“Hello, Commander,” Laural greeted, coming around her desk. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“You as well.” Jaieh feigned a smile. Not out of any distaste for the Counselor, but what she represented. “I understand you’ve been with the ship quite a while. This certainly can’t be an easy place to be a counselor.” She made idle conversation.

“It’s been a unique challenge,” Laural answered honestly. “I’m still feeling my way through, honestly, despite being here through the personnel changes.” She paused, then offered, “I imagine I could say the same to you. It can’t be easy serving as an XO on a ship like the Leviathan. What made you want to take on that particular challenge?”
