Misana stood next to a table she had kindly dubbed the ‘Bone Table’ . Looking over the alien bones that were occupying the table, she sighed. She grabbed the voice recorder and started to record her findings.

“Bones found on a retrieval mission, Anthropologist Misana Kahl reporting. Bones are of Andorian nature, female… Cause of death was a single phaser shot to the chest… Shattering the sternum, assumption that the shrapnels of sternum pierced the heart… Likely the victim died instantly”

Misana put the voice recorder down and went to sit by the computer, taking a short moment to admire her new laboratory on the USS Leviathan.
She had decorated the room with posters of the human body, a skeleton replica of a Vulcan. The walls were lined with cages for bigger creatures such as felines or canines. One of which had a winged black feline, a Llubat
She had desks adorned with smaller creatures such as bugs and insects, even a small aviary type cage for a winged bunny creature. A few photos were lined on the walls, a diploma for archeology and anthropology, her Starfleet Academy diploma in Science. A single photo of her parents Sikus and Rivea Kahl sat at her computer’s side. A dog had made itself comfy next to her. Smiling, Misana extended a hand to pet her fluffy companion.

“Looks like I have some paperwork to do…”

“So soon already?” The Commander’s voice said breaking over the sound of Lab 3’s doors opening spilling forth the Leviathans Trillian Executive Officer. Ryder looked around and could see the Ensign had been settling in well to what would become her own personal lab, the Caitain was stood across from him and he gave her a wide grin. “Its good to see you’re already settling in well here on the Levi” He made the distance across the room holding out his hand, “I am Commander Ryder the XO” He explained.

She smiled back at him and tore her face away from the computer, and extended a hand to shake his, he would be greeted with a strong yet friendly handshake.

“Misana Kahl, though you already know that. Nice to finally meet you”

A st bernard barked at the commander as an introduction to herself, if she could talk it would’ve been along the lines of “HELLO! PLEASE PET ME!”
Chuckling, Misana decided to introduce the canine.

“And this is Gemini, my own personal best friend”

Watching the dog he couldn’t help but feel that warm fuzzy feeling he always felt around dogs, it was safe to say the Trill XO was a dog person. “Wow aren’t you just the most beautiful dog.” He reached down and began stroking the dog, in the presence of Miss Kahl seemed a little derogatory being that someone would even consider saying the same things to her and her lesser evolved species of cat though he knew that the thought alone was an insult so he continued to pet the Gemini. “A unique name, I like it” He added looking up to the Caitain.

Moving from side to side, leaning her weight on the broom, Jessie attempted to remove the bright red coveralls from the position the fabric had settled into. Her tall frame was not suited for the uncomfortable uniform and she had underestimated the length needed to get a better fit, resulting in the hem stopping a many inches from the top of her boots. Which also might account for the wedge. All the Levi’s labs were bustling with excited scientist, studying various organism, bacteria, viruses and who knew what else under their microscopes and various lab equipment. Giving up, Jesse grab a handful of the coveralls from behind her and dislodged the coveralls, but only for a second. Growling lowly, she picked up the broom and drug it behind her to the wall of cages containing specimens for observation and maybe experiments.

Not having gone to university or officer training at Starfleet, Jessie had taken an alternate route to getting a degree that she hoped would lead to becoming a commissioned officer someday. Someday. That seemed so far away. Today she would be paying her “dues”. Stopping at the first cage, Jessie carefully changed the food and water for the pair of bunnicorns housed inside, stroking the soft fur of the male. Secretly she called him horny when no one was around. Their friendship seemed mutual. Next was a terrarium filled with serpents worms. Taking a quick look around the room, Jessie made sure all the scientist were too busy to pay any attention  to the crewman as she plucked out a handful of the fat worms and popped them into her mouth. Some of the juice dribbled down the corner of her mouth without notice.  Moving on the enormous aquarium stood between two rows of counters filled with small cages and habitats of small animals. Fish and other aquatic creatures swam and lived inside the warm saltwaters of the tank that covered about 25 feet long and 6 feet high. Jessie watched samarian coral fish’s brightly coloured bodies and long fins glide across the front of the Plexiglas front. Checking the temperature and ph balance closely, she was satisfied of the occupants and tanks health. Pressuring a few buttons on the control panel, she let out the food and watched  a few minutes longer as the fish swam in circles, breaking the surface of the water and grabbing the food with gulping motions before the food settled to the bottom for the small fish and living plants.

Up and down the next row, feeding the small critters as she went, Jessie bopped her head along to a song only she could hear in her head. Moving the broom around in circles, she used it as a prop and sometimes dancing partner. After two hours, one last cage remained. Her least favourite. If she could get away with it, the stupid thing would be tossed out the nearest airlock. Or a quick pinch between her thumb and forefinger would do the trick equally. Even before Jessie stepped within two feet of the cage, an anger and squeal emanated s the cage rocked side to side. Dropping her shoulders down so her face was even with the little monster, Jessie answered with teeth barred in a fierce growl. She tossed a handful of grain into the cage and moved away. All the scientist in the room turned and looked at the ruckus, but said nothing as Jessie flash her teeth, then smiled.

Leaving the main room, broom trailing behind her, tugging at her backside, Jessie moved towards the next office/lab space. Noticing the placard designated to Ensign Misana Kahl, Jessie pushed the chime, hoping there were no Polygeminus Grex.

Pricking her ears up, the Caitian turned her attention to the Crewman, “Come in!” As the crewman came in, she gave her a warm and welcoming smile.

“Hello, you must be Crewman Jessie right? I’m Misana, I’m happy to tend to the animals if you don’t want to? I’m assuming you’ve probably done the labs before mine? See, the Shokpian insects are close in relation to wasps… And their stingers aren’t just stingers, they hold very toxic venom in the stingers”

She thought for a second and pointed towards the chameleon looking creature, it was a deep green with white on its cheeks.

“Nyla is friendly, but she has venom sacks in her cheeks”

She used her long cat tail to grab a cup of coffee that was sat a little away from her, and sipped the warm caffeine, setting the cup back down onto her desk. She found it sort of strange that there was now 2 people in her lab, she wasn’t so used it it as others were. But it didn’t bother her, what did bother her though was the sudden pain she had in her chest, a pain that she explained to be in her heart.
Great… It’s back again she sighed to herself, a pain her previous therapists had deemed ‘psychosomatic’ which was a kind way of saying ‘it’s all in your head’ of course, they weren’t wrong. It was fully linked to her guilt, though of course that’s a story best left for another day.

Ryder watched in astonishment, though he previous host Kala had worked with Caitains before seeing one for the first time was certainly interesting. He self consciously looked to his rear and almost imagines what it would be like to have tail that could work independently to his arms. “Are you ok Ensign?” He asked having read her medical file which was in part why he had come to see her and ask how her condition worked.

Misana had practically gotten used to how others treated cats compared to her, at first she found it odd that they would treat them any differently to how they treated her considering they weren’t too different. But eventually, she had gotten used to it, and even now had realised that cats and dogs alike somehow enjoyed being treated like pets. It was sort of a game for her to imagine the notion of caitians being treated like pets too. She looked up at Ryder, and smiled.

“I’m just fine Commander… Though I sense you’re not asking me to be friendly? You have another question hidden in there, don’t you?”

Misana had a soft, purring voice. The kind of voice you would imagine a feline humanoid to have. Her skin was dark, adorned with stripes here and there, like she was a descendant of a domestic tabby cat. Indeed, Misana looked quite unique with her mismatched blue and green eyes, and her extremely long hair which was currently up in a tightly wound braided bun. But the most unique part of her was definitely her past, the one thing she could never escape… She wasn’t too sure if she was ready to share the gruesome details with Ryder, and anyone else in the room.

Running, all I seem to do is run. Why am I running? They’ll understand, they’ll know it was an accident… They’ll know I wasn’t trying to. Oh god what have I done?
