Misana walked towards Sickbay, her canine companion by her side, making sure to bonk the caitian with her nose here and there. Misana had left her long hair down, and tied a bow around her tail. Twitching her ears at times she sighed, it was a nerve wracking thing to meet someone new, more so having to talk to yet another doctor about her medical history.
Raising her shaking hand towards the sickbay door, she knocked on it and braced herself.

“Ensign Misana Kahl, may I come in?”

There is a long silence before the air behind the Caitian shifts to signal a presence behind her. “I’ve never known a Sickbay to be closed.” The woman’s voice was gravely and sounded like her vocal cords had been long since damaged from too much smoke inhalation. Her reflection becomes clear in the medical seal on the door, revealing her grotesque shape. She was clearly taller by almost a foot compared to the Ensign, her shadow looming over the smaller Science Officer and accentuated by the sharp lines of her visage. Her arms and legs look to be too long for her body and her fingers are reminiscent of creatures from children’s horror stories that are extremely long, boney, and seemingly reaching for you from a great distance.

The bony arm and finger stretched out from behind Misana and activated the door to open. Inside the Sickbay has had some remodeling as boiling chemical experiments are clearly going on at several tables attended by the aids of a mad scientist. Each one wearing a white lab coat that is buttoned all the way up their neck, a pair of large rubbery boots, and thick rubber gloves. Their identities mostly hidden behind the lab goggles they all wear as they watch whatever horrific device they are working with. “Please, go have a seat on one of the Biobeds, I’ll be right with you as soon as I pull out your medical records assuming they made it to the ship. Many of them didn’t for some reason.”

As sudden as the doctor came to earshot, the caitian jumped up and hissed. The very few feline fur on her body stood on ends and her tail swooped into a threatened position. She had taken a few moments to breathe and calm herself down, before letting out a relieved meow.

“Was there a need to sneak up on me like that?”

The Doctor blinked her red-orange eyes at the smaller Caitian, taken aback by her threatening posture. “I assure you, that was not my intention. I simply arrived only shortly after you did.”

Her voice was clearly annoyed, and her eyes were dilated. A clear sign that she had been scared just a few moment ago. The caitian greatly resembled a less furry version of a brown tabby cat, and had curly hair that reached down towards her tail. Blinking her heterochromic eyes, she suddenly noticed that the canine had now started to lick her hand, making her aware of the intermittent tremor that had made its way back into her hand. She sighed and walked inside the sickbay, doing as she was told and sat on a biobed.
Misana smiled down at her companion that had decided to sit in between her legs, and she breathed in deep. Letting her breath out and back in steadily, eventually calming down the tremor until it wasn’t there anymore.

The Doctor followed a reasonable distance behind Misana, only she headed into the office to retrieve the file she had for the young Caitian. Reading over the file as she returned with a small stasis box in hand, her face twisted into something more frightening. She turned off the PaDD and traded it for her tricorder, “So tell me how disruptive this fear response tremor is?” She carefully moved the sensor of the tricorder to get the best possible readings from the Caitian.

  • Doctor Fey Kastil

“U-uh… Not that disruptive? It’s manageable, and doesn’t hinder my ability to work… It just means that sometimes I have to take a second to take a deep breath”

A lie within a truth. It wasn’t that disruptive to her work, but was disruptive to her health. It took a great deal of effort to calm herself down, and admittedly she hadn’t held anything that resembled a gun since that day. Misana had started to feel the pain in her chest again, but chose to ignore it today. It wasn’t important, not now, not here.

The 29 year old could feel every emotion she had tried to conceal, and the conversation had sparked a memory that was buried deep in her mind. Not as terrifying as the events that led to everything, but uncomfortable enough for her to grip onto the biobed.

“Misana Kahl… You will be discharged from the police force, reason given is an accidental shooting which led to the death of a civilian caitian. No charges are being held. You will serve on the USS Challenger as a cadet, take this as a second chance if you will, a redemption arc” No… The police was my life, my legacy. Why? Why did I have to shoot him?

The Doctor observed all the Caitian’s physical reactions while scanning her, then stopped and put away the tricorder. “Have you seen the counselor yet?” The Doctor pulled up a chair that she took a brisk seat in. “You’re not telling me what I need to help you, so I’m going to recommend a hold on your medical exam until your counseling visit is complete. Our mission is going to be extremely high stress and if you’re responding like this to a surprise and a memory, then I can’t in good conscience clear you for duty. You would be putting yourself and potentially your crewmates in jeopardy.” The doctor moves the chair over to a desk and writes up the order for Misana to see the Counselor. “Do you have any questions, Ensign?”

  • Doctor Fey Kastil

Misana sat there for a second, anger rising. Shaking her head a bit, she sighed and immediately calmed herself down from wanting to punch the doctor, she then smiled softly.

“You’re not asking any questions ma’am, you asked one and made up your mind. Now if I told you that I work great under stress, would you even believe me? You have already decided that I’m not fit to work here, yet I’m here”

She then stood up and made a motion with her hand which caused her canine companion to quickly rise to her feet and walk forward.

“But I’ll listen to your demands”
