“I would like to know if you have specific time you want to receive the morning reports and paperwork. I can work around the rest as needed since I haven’t met with the RTF Coordinator yet. I am guessing unless there’s an issue that my duties as Yeoman take presidence over my RTF department duties?” Quinn replied lightly though her eyes were twinkling slightly, she hadn’t expected him to say he wanted to try all seven combinations that she knew of for a “Old Fashioned”. If anything thus far she was willing to say that this assignment was definitely not going to be boring if the first meeting with the Captain was anything to go on.
She was also amused he hadn’t immediately told her to change her tone and how she commented towards him.

Damn it. They’d been enjoying a perfectly pleasant conversation, or so Cobb thought. But then she’d just had to go and mention, again, the bloody RTF. Cobb had been making every effort over the last few days to try and ignore the presence of Captain Manhattan and his elite squad of cannon fodder. But as always, the universe conspired to allow him no respite from these petty tortures. Death by a thousand paper-cuts.

“Yes. Your yeoman duties take precedence over…everything else,” he replied testily, refusing to even mention that department by name. Although as insouciant as Cobb liked to be, still that ingrained sense of duty forced the remainder of the truth past his reluctant lips. “But…ah, in an ARU Containment Situation, then I do believe that your duty is to the…other team, before any matters onboard.”

There. He’d answered as honestly as he could stomach. It wasn’t right, his own staff being stolen from him for business not entirely under his control. But if he’d succeeded in learning anything over the last few, miserable days, it was that being the Captain of this ship was about as revered a position as the strange critters Ensign Kahl kept in her lab.

“As for the morning reports,” he continued, sulking now, “I’m expected to be on the bridge by oh-nine-hundred, so they’ll do then. With a strong raktajino, if that isn’t too much trouble?”

Some passing crewman who had recently arrived from a shuttle had been speaking about the Captain and the new Yeoman, deciding to rescue the Yeoman from an early demise the Trill XO found himself in search of the aforementioned. It didn’t take long, with help from the computer he almost stumbled onto them out of the Turbo lift catching the Captain last few words. “You don’t strike me as a raktajino guy Sir” He said with a smile looking to Cobb and then to the new Yeoman. “I figured I’d come rescue the Yeoman but it seems she’s doing just fine.”

  • Commander Ryder, XO

“Crewman Kindle here is doing more than just fine, Commander,” Cobb replied, eyeing Ryder somewhat suspiciously. If he wanted a Yeoman of his own then he could bloody well go and recruit one. Already Kindle seemed far too impressive to be wasted on ferrying glasses of water to this charmer of an XO.

“As for my fondness for raktajino, I’ve had many years to learn and discard a whole encyclopaedia of life lessons,” he continued. “But never have I found truer words to live by than these - If it will do for a Klingon, then it will bloody well do for me too!”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

Quinn bit back a laugh but she couldn’t quite keep the cheeky grin off of her face as she looked from the Captain and the First officer, “My previous posting had my duties as Yeoman for the Command staff Captain’s needs first then First Officer to the Second officer after that it was Department head as needed. I don’t think I will be overly busy to not be able to keep up with you and the First officer unless you have objections to my offering?” The RTF on her previous posting hadn’t been very busy and had only asked her to join in on occasion.

“Aye, I suppose that will be okay,” Cobb replied, shrugging. For a brief moment he felt an almost overwhelming urge to make a face at Commander Raauhl, stick out his tongue or some similarly childish gesture. But he caught himself at the last second and barely managed to save his professionalism.

“Well, I shall leave you to get settled in for now, Crewman, and take care of your boarding assessments,” the Captain announced as they reached the corridor where Kindle would find her quarters, “And I shall see you at oh-nine-hundred tomorrow. Oh and…don’t forget that raktajino.”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

Ryder watched as the Captain bobbed off “He grows on you,” he said, once Cobb was out of earshot to the Yeoman, “You don’t have to also do all those things you know, technically you are just the Captain’s Yeoman not everyone else’s as well, or are you already trying for promotion?” He winked gesturing for her to lead the way, he wasn’t sure where she was going but assumed it was to her quarters.

  • Commander Ryder, XO

Quinn laughed softly grinning cheekily at him, “Nope I am not after a promotion that just means more trouble than it’s worth. I would rather keep busy, boredom brings mischief.” She said as she started down the corridor towards her assigned quarters. The duffle bags on her shoulders had admittedly started digging into her muscles but she didn’t have that much further to go. “Do you prefer coffee or tea or something else with your paperwork Sir?” She asked as she glanced at the Trill First officer, she didn’t know his name yet but she figured he would either introduce himself or she would find out from a quick read of the crew compliment.
