: : : Balian waited for the sensor sweep to be completed. If there were people on the surface, and they needed help, Balian was going to have to figure out how to get close enough to effect a rescue, without tearing his ship apart, or appearing in a weak enough position that the Hirogen went back on their word. And this was just his first day in command. He almost sighed, but that felt more like something that bald headed putz would do so he kept it contained. Instead he settled into the Command chair, and looked as confident as Don Juan of the Space Lanes would have. He did adjust his tunic as he did so in the way that was considered the signature maneuver of the putz, it was just unconsciously.

: : The sensors picked up the readings that had been picked up in the science labs. There were two distinct distress signals, the weaker one toward the midpole of the planet and the other at the northern pole was stronger. If there were life signs they were masked by something but why else would there be distress signals if someone wasn’t in distress.

Logan reported his sensor findings. “We might be getting some interference with scanning at the equator,” he warned. “I’m not sure if that’s a natural or artificially created issue.”

Lt Logan Drake CoS : OOC: Cross posting a post from the CSO : =/\=”Captain. If we don’t already have plans in place, I’d like to suggest we form an away team to investigate the sites, on the ground. There’s only so much our sensors can do if there is something actively trying to avoid being scanned, which my team and I believe to be the case.”=/\=

Balian considered this for a moment, =^=Have we analyzed the gravity issues for the safety of an Away team? Can we beam down, I doubt the shuttles can bear the strain=^= Balian asked in return. If there were people in need it was his job to attempt a rescue if possible, but not at the expense of his own people.

=/\=”Unfortunately, sir, I would suggest transporting is not an option. With the active interference of the two sites, it puts our transport at risk. Not to mention we’d be beaming in completely blind. Furthermore, I don’t think we could beam all of the equipment I’d like to bring, in one sitting. No, I certainly suggest bringing a shuttle would be recommended, if you could allocate an experienced pilot.”=/\=

Lieutenant Heinrich Zimmermann,
Chief Science Officer

=^=Then Lieutenant Let’s be about it, I will find you an experienced Pilot=^= replied the Captain to the Chief Science officer. Balian hoped this did not go terribly wrong, turning towards the rear of the Bridge. While smile was still in place the Captain was gravely serious as he spoke to the Bridge crew, and began issuing orders.

“Guns prepare to cover the shuttle in and out” Balian stated to the Tactical Officer, before turning to the next target.

“Aye Captain,” Celina replied already plotting out possible firing solutions that might arise.

“Mr. Drake, Assign proper security to Mr. Zimmerman’s away team.” Balian fired at Logan.

“Commander Creed, A pilot if you will, the Away team will be Mr. Zimmerman’s to command” Balian stated to Jack flatly. Balian’s eyes crinkled in thought, then he tapped the comm button on his chair.

=^=Commander Wynters, Lieutenant Wynters, We are sending an away team to the surface, please allocate personnel to accompany the team. Commander, preferably someone that can expedite repairs on a shuttle and aid in fighting the Gravity effects.=^= Balian decided he had likely covered all bases for the moment, he turned back to Commander Creed.

“Jack, do you want to accompany the team?” Balian asked, this was not an order, but an offer.

Captain, Balian Ibn Barazan, CO

=/\= I am going to accompany the away team, =/\= Jasmine said slinging her med kit over her shoulder as she headed out from sickbay. =/\=I am on route to the shuttle.=/\=

Lt. Jasmine Wynter, CMO

“Sir, I’m concerned that we may find hostiles down on the surface,” Logan said. “Particularly if the problems with scanning are due to an artificial source. Since we don’t have any enemy up here to contend with, so far, I think that we should maximize the security contingent on the shuttle.”

Lt Logan Drake
CoS

Hammor had been quiet the whole time, but finally spoke up. “Captain, I can assist any engineers that are going, and if there are hostiles I can cover them while they work. I volunteer for the Away Team, if that would help.”

Hammor, COO

Max’s Comm line beeped open

=/\= Captain =/\= Max comm’d back, =/\= Ensign Kaia is on her way to the Shuttle Bay =/\=

Lt Cmdr Wynter

The signal was fluctating slightly at the poles, like it might be losing power. But then it would strengthen again.

With two sites, they might need two teams to cover them or at least that made the most sense to Celina. She was not the CoS but had the qualifications for the job. If Drake was heading up the primary team at the primary site, she could be a part the second team to the other location if they could get dirtside. “Sir I have possible firing solutions set in the computers. I was also debating the feasibility of checking both sites that are displaying active interference. We might only get one chance at this due to our Hirogen guests and the gravity well.” Celina did not say anymore. Balian would make his choice and she would stand by it. He was not Jack, whom Celina rarely let a single no stand during their personal life.

Lt. Celina Rodriguez, CTO

=/\=”Ja, Captain. Right away, Captain. I will have all of my crew and specialised equipment waiting in the shuttlebay. We’ll investigate the site at the pole first, as it has stopped transmitting - we don’t want to miss anything that may disappear shortly after the signal has stopped.”=/\=

Lieutenant Heinrich Zimmermann

Gareth was just standing by at one of the miscellaneous Security stations listening to everything before looking around and piping up himself. “I’d be more than willing to help escort and assist one of the away teams sir. I don’t mean this in a negative way .. but I feel like I’m not contributing everything I can standing by on one of the stations..” He scratched his head hoping his interruption wasn’t considered rude. He wanted to help in whatever way possible, whether that be at a station, or on the ground.
