A petite woman dressed in the colours of command and the pips of Commander was straightening a placemat ahead of the arrival of the guests - the Manhattan command staff and department heads, and the representatives of the powers in this part of the galaxy would be arriving soon, and she loved the colour scheme she had going - a bright green table cloth with red and white trimmings, placemats of the greatest holiday spots across the alpha and beta quadrants and bottles of sparkling and spring waters sourced from a nearby planet here in the Delta Quadrant. The menu was alternate drop and consisted of 5 courses, all selected by her personally. She knew that noone would be allergic to anything … What could possibly go wrong? With ‘QT Pie’ organising it … nothing, nothing at all. The Padd’s she placed at each place said each menu item was out of the Talaxian and Voth cooking traditions …

So she waited for the arrivals … yeah, it was 6 hours ahead of the dinner time, but she wanted to be there … incase any one arrived early.

OOC: Feel free to start arriving … hope you all enjoy the ‘exotic’ menu she has got planned for you :)

Xeal walked through the door hoping that he was not the first to arrive he was however 20 minutes early. Looking around the room he was glad that there was one person who showed up before him. This woman it would seem had Commander pips on her collar. Xeal also noticed the food but was currently not interested in it.

Walking towards the Commander he introduced himself. “Afternoon Commander, my name is Xeal Loss the new CSO on board the Manhattan. How do you do?”

“Lieutenant Loss,” she said, not looking up at him, but instead continuing to look at a padd that she had at hand, “glad you’re here. Take a seat, or help yourself to a drink from the replicator.”

She had no sooner said that then the door to the room opened again and a Talaxian and Voth entered the room.

“Is your mate recovering, Nalonx,” the Voth asked.

“Yes, Tamio, she is,” Nalonx replied, “thanks for asking, the Federation’s healing expertise is extraordinary. And I am so thankful for them.”

Seeing Xeal, he said to Tamio, “if you’ll excuse me, my friend, I have a question for the Lieutenant.”

The Voth nodded, and Nalonx approached Xeal.

“Excuse me, lieutenant,” Nalonx asked Xeal, “I am Nalonx, I’m the leader of the nearby colony of Talaxians. My spouse, Wattorux, was injured and healed by the medical staff on the outpost. I am curious about something I hope you can explain. Ambassador Neelix has spoken and written about his experiences on one of your Starships, the USS Voyager. In it, he mentioned that the Medical needs of the crew were looked after by a holographic doctor and was of the opinion that the balding sarcastic emh was the only medical staff assigned to Federation facilities. Here, my wife was tended to, not by a holographic doctor, but a human doctor. Is it usual for non holographic doctors to be assigned to Federation Facilities?”

OOC: If you need to look up Voth or Talaxian in Memory Alpha …

“Greeting, Nalonx, I’m sure the pleasure is mine.” Xeal took a bite of a oderve and washed it down with synthohol wine. “Yes the it is the practice with most species to have living breathing doctors. The Voyager is a unique case as they were not fully staffed and their original Chief medical officer had passed away tragically.” Xeal took the last bite of the food in his hand. “I must say it fascinates me that we have found yet another stable wormhole into the Delta quadrant. As I am sure you are aware if it were not for Voyager it would likely have been another one hundred years before we ever ventured out this far.”

“Would you care for more wine?”

“Oh yes, more wine, please,” Nalonx replied, holding his glass out, “well, it seems my wife was in the best of hands, I’m told she’s going to be alright. And, yes, Ambassador Neelix did mention that.”

“For myself I am a scientist through and through. I love finding out how things tick. Weather it be biological, or mechanical or finding out what something new is out there.” He said waving a hand out towards the observation window.

LT - Xeal Loss - CSO

“A Scientist, really? My friend, Mr Tamio was himself a Scientist in his younger days, though he had to be careful, particularly after the Voyager made first contact with the Voth,” Nalonx said, motioning the Voth to join them.

“Really… In which field does he practice?”

Tamio approached them, his reptilian features smiling at Nalonx’s words, “at best I was a poor Scientist, Lieutenant,” Tamio said, “I get much more enjoyment in my current role as guide to your vessel and Event Horizon. Plus out here puts me at less risk of falling foul of the Ministry of Elders and the Doctrine. Might I trouble you, Lieutenant, for the use of some of your science facilities on board the Manhattan? I may be a poor Scientist, but I am still a Scientist, and long to continue my studies of gaseous anomalies.”

“I must admit I am quite new onto this ship, only just arrived yesterday. However I must clear it with the Captain first, but I see no harm in doing so as long as I am privy to any and all experiments.”

Celina walked in next to Jack. It was weird not to take his hand as she entered the room but they were no longer on Orion where the rules and regulations of Starfleet at times were held together with spit and bubblegum. Celina instantly noticed the food spread on the table. “Jack you had a snack before we came here right,” she said politely knowing he could read through the lines.

Five minutes later, Jasmine walked into the reception. She and Max had had a few words about her attendance earlier. He knew she was going to try and get out of the reception claiming a medical emergency just as she knew he would claim some warp variance was out of whack and needed his attention. Nine months of marriage had taught them both a thing or two. In the end, they had rock, paper, scissored it to see who would show up and perpetuate the lie the other was busy. As if the God’s themselves were in on the ruse and after seven games ending in a tie, they both conceded to show. Maybe the Ministry of Harmony did have something with their probability and statistics section of the questionnaire. At times, like this, people might assume they were Betazoid with their uncanny knack for reading each other. Scanning the room she looked for the better half of the Wynter pairing and silently planned his funeral if he was not either in the restroom or for some reason hiding behind a ficus tree.
