Leaning back in his chair, Maxwell Amadeus Wynter (nee Logan) looked forlornly at the empty coffee cup that sat to one side, and then at the small pile of PaDD’s that had accumulated from the few short months they had been in the Delta Quadrant. It had been short, yes, but eventful. After coming through the Wormhole he had married the ships CMO after only two weeks after meeting her. For most, the whirlwind romance was hard to understand, especially with the, vigor, that the two took to their marriage and how well they worked together.

What most couldn’t understand, was the Mintaran custom of arranged marriage by contract and questionnaire, the happy couple previously having gone through literally hundreds of questions, sub questions and cross checked questions designed to give the Mintaran Ministry of Harmony a complete insight into the person filling out the form, and then matching that person with the best ‘mate’ in their files. The two then peruse the other’s file, the family’s meet to sign a pre-marriage agreement and as soon as possible after that contract is signed, the marriage is formalized and the newlywed couple go on about their business of getting to know each other intimately. Most wouldn’t understand, but the success rate of the Ministry in matching couples and the extremely low rate of divorce was testament to how well the system worked. Besides, Max thought with a grin, Jasmine was absolutely stunning, intelligent, elegant and about the hottest doctor in the Delta Quadrant, and she was his wife. He was hardly going to complain at that outcome.

That point, however, made him lean forward and absently draw random doodles on the ships layout plan that was imposed on his desk surface. They had been so busy, especially with most facilities in this sector having to be built by Starfleet and overseen by the Manhattans crew, that Max and Jasmine had not yet had a real honeymoon. Of course they had visited the Holodeck, the skifields of Hoth had become a favourite, and their wedding venue of the Death Star Hangar and Jabba’s Palace as their reception had become fun places to relax with other activities, but they had not yet gone on that all important Honeymoon. Flicking on his console to send a message, Max opened a channel to his wife who had been lucky enough to have the day off and, being lunch time, he decided to take a few minutes to see how her day was going.

=/\=Jasmine, it’s Max. Hey Pumpkin, are you busy? =/\=

Lt Cmdr Max Wynter, CE

=/\=For you never,=/\= she said in a happy tone moving from the middle of sickbay to her office. Glancing at her watch she wasn’t sure if she was going to be happy-sad or sad-happy. With both of them being department heads downtime was slim and downtime at the same time was something they seemed to have to schedule like a duty shift. A few weeks back, they decided that when they were on duty at the same time and it revolved around a meal, they would call and see what the other was up to. Fifty percent of the time it resulted in meeting somewhere. These small moments were something she treasured. Max and Jasmine only had a finite time so the time was spent talking fun and frivolous making her feel like they were dating even though Mintarans did not date. Maybe that is what made it so exciting. The other fifty percent was one of them telling the other they were swamped and couldn’t meet up. To combat the latter, Max and Jasmine decided to have conversational lunches as they called it and even though they were stuffing their faces at their desks, they were still together. That is where the happy-sad and sad-happy emotion came in. Some days she was upset that they could not meet yet other times grateful she could get the mountains of paperwork done but still spend time with him.

Entering her office, Jasmine closed the door, reclined her seat, and propped up her feet. =/\=You know though that we have to stop calling like this. If my husband found out I was crushing on a super sexy and extremely funny engineer I might have some explaining to do. You are just to perfect not to want to spend time with MacGuyver=/\= Jasmine flirted back with Max and let out a laugh. One night they had been sitting around bored and Ma had found an old adventure serial. The actor portraying the man called MacGuyver wasn’t and engineer but he could sure fix anything with what seemed like sweat and duct tape. With Max being an engineer and Mac and Max sounding so similar, Jasmine decided it would be a great nickname for him.

=/\=So what are you up to handsome,=/\= she asked looking at his picture on her desk.

Lt. Jasmine Wynter CMO

“Just about to have lunch myself” Max said as he pulled over a small container with his meal inside. One of the other things they did for these lunches was eat the same food. It might have been silly to some, but if they were eating together on comm, and eating the same meal, the two of them were together in a more physical way, more intimate, than just a phone conversation. It was the little things they did together when they could that counted.

“You know, I would have a hard time explaining to my wife why I’m lunching with the most gorgeous woman on the ship and not getting much work done while I imagine all the things we can get up to off-duty.” He smiled as he looked at her on the screen. It was her eyes, he knew, that captivated him. She could wear that dress with the plunging neckline and high split up the side, designed and intended to draw the eyes to specific parts of her body, but it was her eyes that always kept him captivated by her beauty. They had a depth to them that a man could lose himself in for hours, and they could impart to him so many emotions and feelings just by the way she held them. Max knew that as they lay in bed, night after night for the rest of their lives, he wouldn’t once ever get tired of looking into her eyes as he fell asleep.

Lt Cmdr Wynter, CE

“What are your plans after shift?” He asked his wife over the comm as he ate at his desk. “I’ve got an idea of somewhere you might like to go and reserved a spot on the holo deck if your not planning to lay around with that husband of yours all night.” Max grinned at her, lately they had both been working hard and had little time to play. Well, they had of course played a lot in the brief times that they both had been off duty and home together, but that wasn’t exactly getting ‘out of the house’. “We need to get back to the fun and adventure of being newly married, we’ve been cooped up inside too long.”

Lt Cmdr Wynter, CE

No sooner had his words left his mouth he heard his door swoosh open. No chime. No Sir are you busy. Just the door opening and a female blonde Ensign walked in as if she owned the place. A PaDD was in her hand and the woman was studying the contents on its screen hard. Her head was down and she moved directly to the front of his desk setting it down. “Sir you have a problem and it needs to be addressed now,” she said in a no-nonsense tone not caring what the chief was up to at that moment.
