Kaia's Quarters - A glance of Galdori Culture

Posted Dec. 4, 2018, 11:01 p.m. by Ensign Kaia (Engineer) (Riley W)

Kaia stepped through the door into her quarters after a long day of work. She enjoyed the job, most of the time. Sometimes she found working on oversized components to be tiring… She collapsed onto her bed, yawning widely before stripping away the engineering yellow of her Starfleet uniform and grabbing her dry shampoo and a small squirting bottle. She had discovered that humans found the scent of wet fur to be somewhat offensive, and that they hated finding clumps of fur in their shower drains, so she had taken to washing dry. She grimaced slightly as she remembered the cross human who had asked her rudely if she washed with her tongue. Why she would do that was preposterous - to do something so primitive! There was always the sonic shower as an option, but she found it didn’t work particularly well on thick fur, especially when one couldn’t reach the controls. She began to work through her body with the squirt bottle of water and a small towel, starting on her shoulders and washing down to her toes before going to her head and carefully washing her face. Once she was sufficiently cleaned up, the young officer pulled on a soft skirt-like garment and gathered a few objects in the center of her room. Her quarters, while seeming small to a human, were absolutely massive for a person so small as she was.

Kaia took her incense stick and lit it with a small lighter. “Computer, begin program Ro’an’se 1,” she instructed the A.I. that ran the ship. It was quite good at doing such things. Kaia closed her eyes as the lights in her room were automatically dimmed to 10% and the soft sound of a heartbeat played over her personal speakers. It was quite soothing to listen to, and she had sometimes fallen asleep to the sound.

She took a deep breath inwards, then allowed the breath to escape her lungs. “Dear Goddess, although I am far away, I pray that you would hear my words and listen to my prayer… I thank you for your gifts, and I offer you my heart. I thank you for today… It was a good day, if tiring. Thank you for all the new friends I have made on the U.S.S. Manhattan. They are mostly very kind and generous people. I hope to get to know some of them more deeply… Ro’an’se, thank you for your music. The music of the ship, the music of the warp core. Even though they are not the same as the music of nature or that which is composed, I think they’re still music, and I think that’s pretty great…”

The incense stick burned to the end and snuffed, the smoke filling her quarters with a soft scent. “I ask that you would watch over us in this vessel, that although we are far from home, we would stay safe in this place. I… I miss Galdor. I hope that I can soon return, even if only for a visit. It’s strange, I’ve only been in Starfleet proper for under a year, and I’m already homesick! May the flowers bloom for always…”

She opened her eyes and took in a deep breath, then let it out again. “Computer… end program,” she spoke. The lights returned to normal. Kaia pulled off her skirt and hung it up, then clambered into the mess that was her nest-like bed. She didn’t really sleep under covers, she was more apt to curl up in a pile of blankets and other soft things. Her fur kept her warm on all but the coldest nights, so she generally had no need for covers. She drifted off to sleep, and quickly found herself in dreamland.
