The doors to Sickbay opened and Captain Cochrane walked through. Taking a look around, he smiled at a passing nurse and then saw an Ensign seated near the door, obviously waiting for something. As the Vulcan began to rise at the sight of a Captain entering the room, Cochrane waved him back. “No, no, Ensign. Stay seated. Please. No need for that right now. I hope you are not unwell?” he asked, obviously concerned. “I will be fine, Sir. Thank you. Merely a respiratory issue, I believe.” he replied in the standard Vulcan manner. “Well, let the Medical staff sort that out, will you? I mean, they spent all that time training and learning. We should probably let them put it to use.” he said with a grin.Cochrane, CO
“Ensign …” Karla began, looking at her padd, as she prepared to look after the Vulcan and his respiratory issue and then took a double take when she saw the Captain, “Nurse Watts, would you look after the Ensign? The standard tests, and then we’ll take it from there.”
The passing nurse, an Andorian smiled back at the Captain, before looking at Dr Reyes, “of course, Doctor.”
The nurse then led the Vulcan to a vacant biobed and set him up for the standard tests.
“Captain, I’m Dr Karla Reyes,” she said, “I arrived not long ago myself. There’s a free biobed in the corner, so we can run the physical with a slight bit of privacy if you like.”
Karla motioned to the corner of the sickbay, and added, “just because I need to know your weight and height doesn’t mean that every Vulcan, Andorian and Betazoid on board needs to know it, does it? If you’ll follow me, we’ll get this underway for you.”
As she walked, Karla looked at a medical technician, obviously a betazoid from the eyes, and said, “crewman, would you let Doctor Wynters know that the Captain’s visited us?”
“Yes, Doctor,” the betazoid said, and set about his task.
“She is a good ship, Captain,” Karla said, “and I hope I live up to expectations serving on her. I’m happy to perform your boarding physical myself, or you can have the CMO do it.”
