Faye had hung back and while the sliming had been amusing, they had been lucky it hadn’t been acidic or toxic. “My guess is that you won’t find a central brain, though I would guess at a really solid network of nerve-like filaments. And we’re assuming it was a verbal speech, but maybe we’re all just receiving a collective telepathic communication.” It was a known phenomenon in some plants, so it was worth tossing out the hypothesis.

~Faye Calloway, Data Specialist

Peyton hung back a little bit and watched, group activities were definitely not her cup of tea. She felt overwhelmed and the string in her hand continued to keep her grounded for the moment.

Grant (SCI)

Neidell Sci

“Telepathic? That just gives me the” Monsant paused, mentally translating. “Oh yes, heebie-jeebies, I think that’s the right phrase. Especially Jeebies.”

-Kavox Monsant

Xeal was completly at a loss. He was not expecting that the plant would start talking. “I’m glad I was not the only one to hear that.” Xeal then turned to the plant. “That is quite alright it should wash right off. What seems to be the issue? You seem to be sick by the way you are shaking and sneezing all the time.”

LT - Xeal Loss - CSO

Audrey leaned closer to Xeal and started to sniffle again “me don’t feel good” she said as she turned away and sneezed again.

As Audrey turned back around they would see that she had grown again. She now stood slightly over 4 foot tall.

Audrey

OOC: Pasting Mike back in here as best I can to make it make sense.

Monsant tapped the side of his tricorder in mild irritation. “I’m not detecting any of the known telepathic neurotransmitters. I’m not detecting a nervous system either, per se.” He shrugged. “If there is an intelligence, its a wholly undocumented type. Extraordinary.”

-Kavox Monsant

Faye shrugged. It was just a hypothesis and so far they weren’t getting much in the way of hard data so as far as she was concerned ‘Audrey’ could function with magic pixie dust for all she knew.

Peyton watched the goings on for a moment, she wasn’t sure exactly what they were supposed to be doing, but she did notice that Audrey seemed to be growing rather quickly and while that was interesting, she was distracted by the entire science department being in one room.

Grant (sci)

“Okay everyone, we need to start evaluating what the possible reason why this plan, isn’t feeling well.” Xeal then looked directly at Grant. “Grant, What’s your hypothesis?”

Peyton looked at Xeal “My hypothesis is that it is lacking the appropriate minerals and possible emotional interactions with plants of its species and therefore it is dying. I would recommend that we find the appropriate mineral/food balance and another of it’s species so that it has someone to interact with besides us.”

“That won’t be possible.” Alison said as she took a deep breath “she is one of a kind”

Xeal looked around the room. “Don’t everyone talk at once…” he said to the quiet science team.

Xeal then turned his attention to the plant and started to rub it’s chin. “It’s okay we will figure out what’s wrong with you. Do you have a name? Can you describe how you are feeling?”

Lt - Xeal Loss - CSO

Audrey wheezed again and pulled away from Xeal. She wasn’t sure how to describe what she was feeling.

Grant (Sci)

Oh good gods. Faye was about ready to walk out of this holodeck. At least she wasn’t technically science department staff or else she’d probably piss burn some bridges here. No one was really communicating with each other and since what few hypothesis had been tossed out had been nixed or ignored, Calloway wasn’t exactly crazy about sitting and having a psyc session and physical with plant. Arms folded, she let them go about their inquiries. Since apparently there was no nervous system of any possible kind, she was calling bs on the whole sentient thing.

~Faye Calloway, Data Scientist

Kavox shifted his tricorder, deciding it would be more prudent to look at the problem from a broader perspective. Instead of scanning the plant fruitlessly, he began to call up the holodeck program parameters, to see if anything there would explain some of the strange data so far collected.

-Kavox Monsant

The readings would show that the air was perficlty clean, and the soil that Audrey was in was of sufficient nuteriant material to sustain the plant for at least another week. That is unless it got even bigger.

Duckey

Peyton watched for a moment before kneeling next to the plant and speaking to it gently and touching one of it’s leaves.

Grant (sci)

As the scientist touched her Audrey leaned closer to the officer.

<bump>

Monsant gave a little helpless shrug. “I’m stumped. With any other plant, I’d say to collect samples, or clippings, take it to the lab and see what makes it tick, but if there’s even a question of intelligence there, that option is looks like it’s pretty well out the window.” He closed his tricorder.

-Kavox Monsant

“I have samples back in the lab” Alison said “When she sprouted the way she did I collected samples for comparison later on.”

Alison (sci) and Audrey

“Except if there’s a question of intelligence, those samples could be considered the… children of a sentient race. Or… maybe more like a blood sample, I don’t know. Botany wasn’t something I was very good at, honestly.”

-Kavox Monsant

Peyton watched as the plant leaned towards her, so she kept speaking to it softly. She didn’t really care what the others thought for the moment. She focused on the plant in front of her.

Grant (sci)

Xeal took all the information that the team was talking about and compiled it into his brain and turned it all around. “Could it be that…?” He said under his breath. “Given what we currently know. Is that this plant is sick and we have all the resources to keep it alive…” A photon streaked through his mind. “Ensign Grant, have you analyzed the lighting. Is Audrey here getting sufficient light?”

Lt - Xeal Loss - CSO

Peyton shook her head “No Lieutenant.” She said “I will see if we adjust the lighting that it will help the situation.” She said as she spoke softly “Computer lower lighting 20%.” She said as she continued to talk to the plant “Does that help?” She asked looking for some sort of response to the lighting change.

Grant (sci)

At the drop of the lighting Audrey made a hissing sound and buried her head into Peyton’s shoulder and began to shake slightly.

Xeal continued to pet and rub Audrie’s preverbial chin. “Don’t worry, we will figure this out for you.

Lt - Xeal Loss - CSO

As Xeal began to rub her chin she began wheezing again. Before she sneezed she turned her head away from the officers.

Audrey

Peyton spoke quietly “Computer return lights to original levels.” She said “Increase humidity by 5%.” She added as she continued to sit with the plant.

Grant (Sci)

Alison looked over to the rest of the science team “what if its not something we can find? What if its a medical issue?” She knew it sounded way out of character, but she couldnt figure it out.

Kane, science

“Botanical,” Monsant corrected, then shrugged a little. “Maybe it might do better back in the lab?”
