Faye considered her words carefully and she almost smiled. Almost. “Surprisingly open. Now, I haven’t met everyone, of course, but I’ve met most of the senior staff by virtue of needing to establish resources and what not for my work. At the same time there has been an edge of suspicion that tends to fade to more curiosity, because as you noted, my work adds an element of uncertainty that is uncomfortable.”

She opened her mouth to speak again but closed it, letting her thoughts gather more clearly before she voiced them. “If I can offer you a piece of advice for this ship, don’t try too hard to be The Captain. They know it. And they will follow your lead, if you let them.”

Cochrane threw his back laughed out loud. “Is that how I came across when I called you? Oh, hell. That was not what I meant to convey at all. I was going for a more ‘Hey-Im_super-excited-to-talk-with-you’ kind of thing. Guess I’ll have to work on my commbadge skills a bit more.” and he looked at her. “That is sound advice, Lieutenant. I know a few Captains who could use it. I hope to never be one of them.” ans he smiled broadly. “But do me favor. If you ever see me falling into that, I give you full permission to pull me aside and tell me I’m out of bounds. Think you can handle that responsibility? Stand behind me in the chariot and keep whispering ‘Remember. You are mortal.’?” and he laughed again.

Now that made her smirk. “I can do that, but I’m not sure you fully realize what you’re asking. Once you give me permission to speak freely, it can get… colourful. After all, I do speak Romulan very well.” She also knew he had similar skills, but he didn’t know that she knew that about him. And she wasn’t about to let that slip. There was the other side of the equation too, where he’d at least have a tidbit of info if not the full picture with her BPD. Or she assumed. It was medical information, and so it would have required him specifically using clearance to view it. He said he had read her available file, but how much of it? She didn’t know just yet.
