Pre-Sim - Arrival to the Manhattan

Posted Jan. 9, 2019, 3:25 p.m. by Lieutenant Riali Deandres (Chief Science Officer) (Trin S)

Deandres had never understood the term ‘settle down.’ Her life had always been a series of twists and turns becoming the track to her own self-made purgatory. She would come inches from the thought of resting, spending long days on the coast with her toes dangling in the warm sand. Then, opportunity would strike, snatching away the thought of such a day, the warmth of the sun fading into the chill of yet another transport vessel. Alas, Riali was far too quick to jump, before realizing the ground beneath her was miles down, rather than the few feet she had expected.

It made for an interesting life.

Tapping her fingers to the beat of a song from her childhood, a distant memory now a century in the past, Riali stood in the transporter room of the Manhattan, briefly paralyzed in her will to think. It was only when the crisp voice of the Transporter Tech met her tired ears, that she realized she had been standing motionlessly on the pad, for the past several seconds, as if dazed into a state of comatose.

“Lieutenant, are you all right?” The young man inquired, furrowing his eyebrows in question, his head cocked sightly to the side, as if observing her for signs of hysrria or illness.

“Hmm? Oh! I am quite all right,” A crooked grin formed at the corners of her lips, spreading across her face, whose distinct patches of pale skin gave her the appearance of two people formed into a single. Reaching down, she picked up her kit from the adjacent transporter pad, sliding it over her shoulder, securing it in place. “I was merely thinking, that is all!”

“All right.. if you say so,” An awkward laugh escaped his lips, his uncertainty obvious to the El’Aurian who had spent more than her fair share of time observing people and their mannerisms. “I had better get back to work, before the boss catches me– welcome to the Manhattan, Lieutenant.”

His smile was charming, quaint, a sincere welcome to the ship he had been assigned to. Daring to return his infectious grin, she nodded to him, adjusting the kit about her shoulders, her eyes set on the doors out of there. Without another word, she headed for the exist, listening to their characteristic hiss, as she slipped through those departing doors.

Taking in a soft breath, Riali briefly scanned the halls, determining which direction would be best. Assuming she would eventually meet a turbolift, either way she endeavored, she headed to the right, the sound of her heels clicking against the floor becoming a gentle trill soon to be forgotten.

Prior to the Manhattan, Riali had just finished a marine expedition, in effort to better understand the oceans of a recently discovered planet. This would certainly be a change of scenery from the marine vessel she had called home, for the past several months. Although, it didn’t bother Riali, her spirit ready for the switch, as staring out into the open sea became quite nauseating, after a few months of it. The tumultuous waves slapping against the base of the vessel, their roar becoming white noise, when your attention rested on what lie beneath them.

Glancing down at the PaDD she carried in her left hand, she checked to see where her quarters were, so she could get a headstart on those check-ins of hers. Grinning, once the number popped up, she returned her attention forwards, cheerily making her way down the halls.. quite the ball of energy for someone almost one hundred sixty years old.
