(Snip)

“Lieutenant, I’m Faye Calloway, the ship’s new Mission Specialist. I was hoping you had a few minutes to go over a couple things?” she asked simply.

Bump

Logan had a large mug of steaming hot freshly replicated coffee that he was drinking from.

“Sure!” he replied. “Take a seat. What’s on your mind?”

Faye settled into a chair and gazed at Drake for a moment. “As you probably know, I have been recently assigned to the ship as a Mission Specialist, focusing on data security. I’ve spoken with all the parties who would likely be affected by my work, but I felt that it was a courtesy to meet with you as well, since you are responsible for ship’s security, though that traditional manifests in a physical forms, rather than the work I am doing.” For the time being she just wanted to get a feel for the man.

Logan nodded. “I maintain all of the security codes and classified computer files,” he replied. “If I ever needed to do a comprehensive computer forensics sweep, I’d go with either a dedicated diagnostic engineer or our Chief Science Officer.”

“Or… me, since that is my job,” Faye said pointedly. “I’m the ship’s computer science expert. Even got my own lab and everything,” she said, trying to keep her tone light, even as she pondered whether this would prove a point of contention between them.
