The doors to the Engineering bay on Deck 18 opened and the new Commanding Officer walked through. Looking out on the warp core, he took in the large space spanning multiple decks and the Engineers moving about keeping things in proper working order. Cochrane smiled a bit and then looked over at the Master Systems Display. After a few moments he nodded and then walked to the Chief Engineer’s office and pressed the chime.

It took a moment, but presently the doors opened. Instead of the Chief Engineer greeting him, a very attractive woman in the gold of engineering instead walked out straightening her tunic . She recognized the man by the pips on his collar and paused, eyebrows raised slightly. “Captain,” she said and then glanced back inside the room. “Commander Wynter is inside, Sir.” She said, a slight reddening appearing on her cheeks before she walked away to resume her duties.

Inside the room, sitting on the edge of his desk was the Chief Engineer. Notably, the man was minus his tunic and in a plain white tank top. The wiry muscles of his arms and shoulders laid bare and a number of red looking marks, slowly fading, covered those same area’s. “Captain,” he said as he looked up while he turned his tunic the right way out, and began to put his arms through it to put it back on. “Please, come in. Coffee?”

Cochrane looked back at the retreating figure and then looked at the obviously out of uniform CE. With a slight cocking of his head to the side, he said “Am I intruding on something, Commander? I can always come back later if you are… preoccupied? I’d hate to interrupt a, uh… staff evaluation?”

Max waves the Captain in, “No intrusion Sir, I don’t do staff performance assessments on a Tuesday.” He grinned and stood, slipping his tunic over his shoulders then doing it up. Then, he extended his hand to the man. Lieutenant Commander Maxwell Wynter, Captain.

In his other hand, he held up a small medical tool. “I got some minor burns from an overloaded conduit, nothing serious. However my wife is the Chief Medical Officer, you can imagine the disapproving looks and lecture if I wandered in there with another burn. NE Macphersen there is a trained medic, she knows how to handle her tools, and is more than qualified to treat minor burns. That way, I don’t need to lose time going to sickbay then having a discussion about being more careful tonight instead of, spending a nicer evening g with my wife.” He grinned and slid the medical tool into a drawer, “Welcone to Engineering.”

Cochrane looked at the man and said flatly “But you of course report such minor occurrences to your spouse for keeping an accurate medical file, correct?” It was difficult to tell if the man was being serious, was still trying to figure out if what he saw is what he saw, or if he was just having a bit of fun at the expense of the Chief Engineer in situation and the obvious potential for misinterpretation.
