Faye hadn’t realized she was holding her breath and she exhaled. A part of her wanted to brush the hand on her shoulder away but she began to recognize that the voice was the same as the one earlier and that it belonged to their Chief Medical Officer. “So… I’ll be able to see properly again? What about the rest of the burns. It could feel it. I know they were there,” she said in a small voice. She was doing her best to breathe calmly to keep her panic at bay, but so much about this situation played right into her time with the Tal Shiar- far closer than she wanted to think about right now.

“You are going to be fine,” Jasmine said patting her shoulder. “The miracle of medical technology can fix up anyone right a rain given just a little bit of time. There will be no scarring but the area will be sensitive and maybe a little sore as the epidermis returns to normal. So you want to tell me how it happened,” Jasmine asked dropping into the seat next to Faye. She knew the question was open ended. She wanted it that way. Whatever Faye wanted to share, Jasmine would listen to.

Lt. Jasmine Wynter, CMO

Faye exhaled, turning her head slightly in Wynter’s direction. “I was doing work in the jefferies tubes on a part of the system I’m just about working on.” She paused as if working through the details. “I called Engineering and asked them to decrease the power flow through the EPS junction I was working on, or else divert it entirely. Then I finished a calibration and flicked the switch. It should have been a small amount of power flowing through, but then BOOM“-she gestured dramatically, mindful her hands didn’t go in Jasmine’s direction. “The whole thing overloaded in my face. It’s a bit fuzzy after that, but I mist have passed out initially because when I woke up things were not so fun…” She shuddered visibly. “After that, it’s all really hazy. I had a weird dream. I think I got into a fight? Like I said, weird.”

The doors to Sickbay slid open and Cochrane came through, a look of obvious concern on his face. Seeing the CMO and Calloway, he made his way over to them. Looking at the CMO and then Calloway, he said “Doctor. How is your patient?”

Faye turned her head towards where she knew Cochrane was standing, her mouth turned into a frown. “Unhappy to be here because I think it means someone screwed up and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t me this time,” Faye said slightly sulkily. “And sporting the latest fashion, clearly.” That remark was drier as she pointed to the bandage across her eyes.

Cochrane frowned. “Well, now that I heard from Blind Justice, maybe we could let the CMO have a turn, Lieutenant?” he said, and while his expression was one of concern, there was a hint of friendly condemnation in his voice. Looking at Wynter, he said “Prognosis, Doctor?”

Faye couldn’t help but smirk slightly at his off-the-cuff comment.

“She will be just fine,” Jasmine said with a smile. “I would recommend light duty for a day or so just to make sure she feels okay. The dermis will be healed visually but tender to the touch for a day or so. Kinda like when you get a blister and it is healing. The skin is intact but tender. Her vision will be back by tomorrow morning completely. I am just giving her another hour or so with the bandages to make sure the dermaline has done its job. Her vision will be back to as good as normal but tonight she might have a bit of light sensitivity. this is easily fixed with dimmer lighting or sunglasses.”

Cochrane nodded and said “Thank you, Doctor. I’m quite certain the Lieutenant will adhere to your recommendations and instructions to the letter. Won’t you, Lieutenant Calloway?” and then he set a hand on her shoulder. “Recover, then work. I know you have pressing matters to attend to, but since you are the only one who can do them, you need to be at a hundred percent. Understood, Ms. Calloway?” It was clear from his tone that the Captain had no intention of taking any kind of argument on the subject.

Tossing the complications of the whole situation aside, resting in her quarters sounded like a great idea. Still, she sighed slightly and nodded. “Yes, understood.” She tried to not think about the mess left on Deck 14 and what that was going to mean to the progression of her project, but the implications were starting to lay themselves on thick. Could she navigate her way through without everything collapsing around her or would she have to possibly contravene orders just to keep the peace?

“The problem is now that an engineering team is likely to have to get in there.” Was the frustration in her voice audible. “While I possibly could do the repair work on my own, even without having seen the damage with my own eyes, the way my body has felt tells me enough to know that it’s not exactly minor. That whole conduit…” Faye shook her head as she retraced events in her head. It had to have been an issue with the power diversion, she was certain of it!

“I’m discussing the matter with the XO and the Chief Engineer as soon as I walk out of here. And they have been given direct orders not to interfere with your work. You can address the matter with Engineering once you leave here. I will assist with that, if you require it.”

Turning her head towards Jasmine, Calloway pondered. “So… an hour? Then I can go? No offence but medical places are really not my favourite hangout.” She was doing her best to hide her unease, but too many things had happened to her in medical bays that she really would be rather anywhere else.
