Captain Cochrane sat in his ready room prepping for their impending departure. Supply shortages and missing equipment had stalled their timetable, and Alex was gritting his teeth as he read the latest set of excuses from Command. As he began to write a response that would exemplify why you don’t respond to communications while angry, the comms activated.

=/\= Captain, this is the Bridge. We have three ship incoming on formation approaching the station. They appear to be Kazon, Captain. =/\=

“Great.” Alex thought to himself. The Kazon had their own section of the Quadrant briefing he attended prior to his arrival in the Delta Quadrant. Aggressive, rude, arrogant… but not necessarily hostile; although they were known to act as raiders in certain sectors. The Intelligence officer in the briefing described them as ‘Klingons… without the class.’ Cochrane tapped his comm badge. =/\= Are their weapons armed? =/\=

=/\= No, sir. They are hailing the station and requesting permission to dock… it appears to be a trading expedition, Captain. =/\=

=/\= Understood. Keep an eye on them and let me and the XO know if they do anything out of the norm. =/\=

=/\= Yes. sir. =/\=

Cochrane then sent word to Security. “Ensure we have adequate security presence on the station to… assist… should any altercations occur between ship’s crew and the new Kazon arrivals.”

Kaia happened to be the Engineering officer on Bridge Duty, and her eyes widened slightly. She had read reports about the Kazon, but it would be interesting to meet them in person. Possibly. Maybe she wouldn’t get to meet them, but it was still interesting.

She shifted slightly, standing up so that she could reach the controls - most of the time she just sat on the huge chair that was at the engineering station, but when she had to do something the tiny engineer had to stand up to access the controls. She had been working on a fold-up platform that she could sit on and still be able to access the controls, but she hadn’t gotten permission yet from the CE and other senior staff to try it out on the bridge. So far, most of her prototypes were either too bulky, or not strong enough to support her weight. Hmm… what about some alternate materials…?

Kaia, Eng

Cochrane looked over at the diminutive Engineer for a moment. In his head, he reviewed the copious amounts of personnel records he had reviewed over the past week. “Ensign… Kaia. Yes, the Galdori.” he said to himself, and then spoke aloud. “Ensign Kaia. Do you know anything about the Kazon? From what I have read, this could be all kinds of exciting…” he asked with a slight grin.

Cochrane, CO

Kaia’s tail perked a little, the tip twitching briefly. Her ears swiveled back upon hearing her name spoken softly, and a small amused smile came upon her face. She waited until he addressed her, then spoke politely, “Galdori is the collective term for all inhabitants of my planet, but we have further distinctions to speak of each species of intelligent beings. I am specifically of the Raka species. I would greatly appreciate if you would try to think of me as a Raka,” she said, bending at the waist to bow low to the Captain.

She then answered his questions. “I have heard a little about this race. Not too much though, only what I have been able to find on mission reports, mostly from the Voyager mission,” she explained. “I am very curious to see how this encounter turns out!”

Kaia. Engineer

“Voyager definitely didn’t paint them as an eloquent race; ‘exciting’ might just be an understatement!” Riali added from where she was situated at the science station, swerving around to face the Raka engineer and Cochrane.

Lt. Deandres

Cochrane chuckled. “Too true, Lieutenant. Passive scans on their vessels. Comms, let’s hail our new guests and see if Voyager’s files hold up to our first contact, shall we?” He stood up and then had a thought. “Belay that order, Comms.” and he tapped his badge. =/\=Bridge to Diplomatic Attache Anders. Your services are requested on the bridge immediately. Bridge out. =/\= he said in friendly manner. He looked at the bridge crew, shrugged, and said “We have a Diplomat, may as well use them, right?” with a grin.

=^=Yes, sir… On my way,=^= was Vorraye’s response. She quickly changed into a more suitable tunic top and breeches and headed for the bridge.

“Agreed and she will have her work cut out for her,” Celina said entering the bridge. “I was hanging out in security when the call came in about the Kazon arriving at the station,” she explained how she was semi up to date and hadn’t been on the bridge until this moment. Handing the captain a PaDD she moved to her station continuing to brief the captain on the contents of the PaDD. “The Kazon are a patriarchal society and there have been reports that they will treat foreign women like they treat their own women. As second class citizens, you talk down to. Aside from that, they are also the only species known to have been rejected by the Borg for assimilation because they were unremarkable. Kinda embarrassing species stat but we should be able to outgun them if the diplomatic options go south,” Celina replied bottom lining the conversation.

Lt. Celina Rodgriguez CTO

“I wonder how they would treat me,” Kaia wondered aloud. “I am not exactly screaming my gender to the rooftops like all you humanoid species do,” she gestured briefly to her very flat chest. There was almost no visual difference between the males and females of the Raka, from a human’s point of view. “In all honesty, they would likely view me as an inferior species due to my size. But I would be fascinated to see how they would react to a Laleri or a Hatriku…”

Kaia, Eng

A moment later, the young lady arrived on the bridge with a smile on her face. Stepping into the room she glanced around the room and made note of everyone there. Something told her this wasn’t a social call.

Vorraye Anders
Diplomatic attache

Cochrane looked up as the doors opened and a grin crossed his face. “Ms. Anders, thank you for coming. We have new arrivals at the station. The Kazon. Thought you might want to stretch your diplomacy legs a bit. Comms are at your disposal.”
