“I don’t mind, but I can’t guarantee you’ll be fully satisfied by the amount I can tell you. But essentially I am responsible for the encryption and decryption protocols on the ship, along with data transmission safety. My experimental work is classified for the time being and will involve modifications to improve these different areas,” Faye explained, doing her best to keep her responses and emotions level. The less that Deandres poked about, the less Faye would be forced to give uncertain answers.

“Mmm. A pity it’s classified,” Riali shook her head. She had lived long enough to know ‘classified’ was another way of saying ‘keep prying, and you’ll meet a dead end.’ Although it had taken her a century to accept that, she finally had. Deciding it was best to leave it alone, Riali offered a calm smile. “Besides the point,” she waved a hand in dismissal, “Keep me apprised of whatever you may need.” She rose to her feet, “Unless you have anything further to discuss, I don’t want to keep you from your work.”

Faye was about to just take her leave, but as she rose to her feet, she found herself contemplating something that had occurred to her earlier. “The modular areas on Deck Four is currently not assigned specifically and I wasn’t sure if you were going to use it for research or the Botanical Garden that is also optional. Would you be opposed to having a garden? I’d honestly like a place to putter. I came to realize a little while ago that it is… therapeutic for me. I could use the outlet.”
