Jack had been in his office staring at the screen for a long moment. This couldn’t be right, the signature was correct. There was nothing to be concerned about, no red flags nothing. Yet recently a small tidbit had come across his desk, or his table to be exact. While in mess hall he heard a tale he couldn’t believe, the tiny little Lieutenant Calloway had worked with S.I. against a Romulan threat before coming here.

“This… doesn’t add up.” he said as he focused he stare at the screen. Since coming into the Delta Quadrant his contacts had been alerting him of threats for some time. His parents death had been over ten years ago, but the threat of their experiments still loomed. No one had been privy to this, not Celina, not his sister… even the new Captain he hadn’t had a chance to talk to as of yet.

Since rejoining Starfleet over three years ago from his mission to Orion, he had been serving a dual role of XO and CIO. The later position though wasn’t something anyone knew. When the last Captain had gone he had only recently informed him a small briefing, S.I. was worried about signs in this quadrant. So now he stood, Captain Cochrene unaware of his role and duties as he kept staring at the screen.

“Lieutenant Faye Calloway, asset.” It was a simple phrase, didn’t mean much to many but it meant she had indeed been working with S.I. before. This may not seem big to many, but no one came to this ship without him being informed if they had any previous dealings with S.I. Yet here he was, a woman who had not rang any bells when she first came… now an asset. “What kind of asset are you…” he asked himself, trailing as he looked to the right of his desk. A small frame of him and Lieutenant Rodriguez stood there, it was a reminder of how his career began with S.I. over six years. It pained him he couldn’t tell her everything, but orders where why they wore these uniforms.

“Well Ms. Calloway, lets see what other secrets you have…” he said, wishing he could bring Celina in on this aspect. She had a knack to finding people’s secrets, she knew something was off with him. Jack had honed his skills more since that encounter, but opening to her then had been the best choice he ever made. It sadly wasn’t a choice he could make right now.

Auburn hair cascading down the back of her sapphire tunic top, hazel eyes shining at those she nodded at, and a smile that was meant to calm even the most antagonistic minds at the negotiation table… These were the first things most people noticed about the Diplomatic Attache as she walked down the hallway to the XO’s office.

The young woman’s nerves were expertly hidden, as was the fact that she knew which smiles she received back were genuine, and which ones weren’t. She couldn’t read minds, but she read emotions and intent. And a couple of the smiles in her direction certainly weren’t ones she wished to get to know better.

Stopping before the Second in Command’s office, she pressed her hands down the front of her tunic and over her hips as she smoothed out imperceptible wrinkles in her nervousness. The required talk with the Captain had gone well, but she’s chosen to seek this man out on her own.

Raising her hand, she tapped the chime as her eyes lifted up from a final glance down at her heather grey leggings and matching boots that completed her outfit. As a civilian, she wasn’t required to wear a uniform. She just hoped the clothing she was in want the wrong kind.

Jack stared at the door for a second. He hadn’t any appointments but he did have open office hours. Part of him never liked to chalk things up to mere coincidence but he highly doubt this had anything to do with what showed on his screen. Still he lowered the panel on his desk as he titled his head just slightly.

“Enter.” He said, his sharp features staring. For many Jack could have a somewhat imposing figure. Most would find him often strikingly handsome yet he couldn’t help but seem to have very chiseled features that could give him a stare that didn’t always mean what he wanted it to convey.

Jack has a fairly typical office overall, there was bits and pieces from his travels all over. Family portraits of him and his sister as well as him and Celina laid on his desk.

By fair the most unusual piece was the painting behind his head of a bar. It seemed to not fit with most of the work around the room but clearly had some level of importance.

She came in at his beckoning and get eyes swiftly took in the room with the practice of one looking for dark corners. To anyone else, it looked like an over curious money. But you those who knew what to look for, they could be on the fact she was aware off every piece of furniture, every doorway or window, and the locations where people could be hidden, or hide, should it come to that.

“Commander Creed, I hope I’m not intruding. Vorraye Anders, your new Diplomatic Attache.” Her smile brightened as she stepped towards the desk. “I hope I’m not out of line dropping in unannounced.” She glanced a second too long at the painting behind him before once more looking at his face. It gave her away. The picture intrigued her and she didn’t understand its place in this man’s domain. But she accepted it, just like she accepted the fact that as long as he was sitting, she had a slight upper hand. At least, in perception, anyway.

Her eyes swiftly darted over him as they had the room. Like the room, she was measuring him up. He wasn’t lazy, she guessed. There wasn’t a softness to him that many Commanding Officers had. He was in shape on purpose. She stopped at his eyes and held them a moment too long before closing the gap to bring her up the table as she awaited his response. The door finally hissing closed behind her.

Ardashir leaned back as he looked her over, he read her file but never really expected her to grace his office. Diplomacy was often the farthest thing he was part of, and a civilian diplomat even more so. “Not at all Ms Anders, please have a seat.” he said, not standing up it was clear he was looking her over. Jack himself wouldn’t be super easy to read. Much of his training kept him calm. Betazoids and other telepaths often were employed to sift through people in the underworld. Undercover operatives needed ways to not be spotted when going deep.

“I must admit, I wasn’t expecting you to come by me. I figured you would simply see the Captain then settle in. How may I assist you today?” he asked her, it was spoken in an even polite tone, but it seemed to say more than that. It was direct, what are you going here.

Creed, XO
