Alex entered the Ready Room and sat down at his desk. Their pursuit of the probe had not been successful, and they had been left with not only more questions than answers, but no answers at all. Who sent it? Why? What was it looking for? How did it work? How did it simply vanish, reappear, and vanish again with no trace? He drummed his fingers on the desk for several long moments as he tried to figure out an avenue of inquiry. Finally, he tapped the desk.

=/\= Computer. Analyze all records of ship reports and records of Delta Quadrant activity. Search parameters as follows: Delta Quadrant technology concerning propulsion of vessels. Species-specific propulsion and scanning technology related to the following species: The Hirogen, Species 6339, Sikarians, Vaadwaur, Taresians, and the Borg. Compare reports of all interactions with those species vessels and the latest interactions of the Manhattan with the subject of all recent scans for the past 8 hours. Display any similarities with scan subjects mode of transit with known transit modes of the listed species. Search for following key words in ship reports in conjunction with interaction with unknown and known vessels: vanish, disappeared, no trace. Compile those records with any further reports on the flagged report subject. =/\=

=^= Working =^=

The computer beeped its interminable response, several moments of silence ensued, as the main computer core engaged, processing gigoquads of data per second as it attempted to fulfill the requirements Cochrane laid out. After nearly a minute of silence, the computer beeped again

=^= Analysis complete. Verbal or visual response? =^=

A maddeningly banal response that thousands of Starfleet officers before him had felt ungodly frustration towards in the last century and a half of the MAJEL interface.

=/\= Visual. and transmit visual response to the Bridge OIC and Chief Science Officer, along with search parameters. =/\=

Cochrane, CO

OOC: Well darn, and I had a big long MAJEL speech all ready :P

The computer terminal screen began to display rapidly progressing image data. Being disturbingly more thorough than usual, given the broad parameters of the search, the computer displayed a fairly high degree of similarity to the scanning technology used by all of the mentioned species. It appeared that the probe incorporated elements of each of those species technologies in its scanning capacity. The power system seemed to be a rather complex combination of Hirogen, augmented with borg nodes. The hull construction of the probe matched any number of dozens of races across all four quadrants of the galaxy. Tritanium and Duranium were fairly common construction elements among almost all warp capable species. There was, however, a heavy concentration of radiogenic particles detected within the hull, consistent with long term exposure to high levels of plasma radiation.

Cochrane looked at the data and frowned. =/\= Computer. Compare known forms of propulsion and travel of all species associated with the various technologies to consistent exposure to plasma radiation; and review all logs of USS Voyager for similar readings with regards to ships encountered. =/\=

Cochrane, CO

The computer beeped an acknowledgment and then remained silent for several moments while it processed the request. When it did speak, it broke the stillness with a burst =^= Correlation exists between encounters between the USS Voyager on Stardate 53167 and the Vaadwaur species. The Vaadwaur planet was bombarded with plasma torpedoes and rendered lifeless. Identified scanning parameters are consistent with material exposed for extended periods to high energy electromagnetic radiation decay. =^=

Cochrane thought for a moment and then tapped the comms. =/\= Commander Creed. Lieutenant Deandres. Report to the Ready Room immediately. =/\= and the he said =/\= Computer. Pull latest Star Fleet Command Briefings on the Vaadwaur. Analyze all records of Federation interaction with Vaadwaur and flag any report describing travel of Vaadwaur vessels similar to that of the probe. =/\= and he waited for the two officers to join him.

The computer beeped for several seconds while it processed the data…

=^=Understood, Captain. On my way.=^=

Moments later Deandres slipped through his readyroom doors. “Captain.” She greeted, considering the computer’s report from the bridge as she approached him.

… As she entered, the computer began speaking, almost as though it had been waiting for her =^= Vaadwaur vessels are powered by fusion impulse engines capable of generating sublight thrust. The Vaadwaur species made use of an extensive network of subspace corridors that allowed rapid travel across interstellar space. This allowed the Vaadwaur to form a large empire. Their knowledge of these routes was unmatched and only a coalition of subjugated races was capable of defeating them. The USS Voyager encountered Vaadwaur survivors retained in stasis devices after their homworld was rendered uninhabitable. Following the ensuing conflict, 56 Vaadwaur vessels escaped the atmosphere and were assumed to have passed into the subspace corridor network. USS Voyager later encountered a single Vaadwaur vessel in a subspace envelope. This ship had been significantly augmented with known and unknown technologies from non-aligned species. This is the last known contact between the Federation and the Vaadwaur =^=

“Heya, Lieutenant. Have a seat and take a look at this.” and he slid a PaDD with all the data the computer had compiled and the parameters of his latest search. “Could we be dealing with the Vaadwaur?”

Cochrane, CO

“The Vaadwaur, according to what Voyager’s files have made of them, seem to have a long history of war and violence throughout their space-going years. Their hostility, as seen by assaults against Voyager, would make them a dangerous species to encounter.” She studied the information on the PaDD, “Although..it would explain the radiogenic particles in the hull of the probe. Especially if it had come from the Vaadwaur homeworld, or an event of war where there was an abundance of plasma-based weaponry.” Riali thought for a moment, “I don’t know much about the Vaadwaur, a side from grazing over a few of Voyager’s files, but it’s possible this could be them.”
