The sickbay doors hissed open as Ensign Shon Baht stepped through the threshold for his duty shift, arms held out to his sides and hips swaying to display the wide cloth band with a large metal buckle wrapped around his waist. Catching sight of his nearest coworker, Shon completed a dramatized 360 degree spin to show off his new apparel as he approached.
“Check out this ‘gait belt’ I just replicated from old Earth medical records! Not only is it quite the fashion statement (and very slimming), BUT it’s also super helpful for moving weakened crew without throwing out your back! Want to try it on? I have no idea why these things went out of style, they’re great!”
Shon pointed down at his waist with both hands and looked at his victim expectantly, wiggling his hips a little to send the loosely-adorned royal blue belt bouncing.
