“Seems everyone is needing my help lately. I haven’t been this popular in yours. So… what do you need my help with. You are awfully informed which is one of the few reasons I am still here. Doesn’t quite seem like a trap, but you can never be too cautious either. So who is our acquaintance pray tell?” Jack said as he said across from her in a seat, he eyed her carefully but he was still scanning the room with his eyes. Much of the room had been scanned before hand but he didn’t know if there was things below the surface.

She hadn’t changed the decor at all and it was entirely as bare as new crew quarters typically were. She had stashed what possessions she had with her away so they weren’t visible and there were no obvious monitoring equipment. But then again, he had to know she had put up some protections for herself. There were no bugs but suddenly a very low grade disruption field went up. Not enough to trip the sensors to be detectable outside the room, but enough to keep prying eyes and ears from getting the scoop on what was happening in the room. She used a standard emitter, one that had a frequency he’d probably recognize and know was from Intelligence.

The woman inhaled slowly and regarded Jack. “Faye Calloway. She’s in trouble, but I think you already know that.”

“Faye…” Jack asked as he felt himself tense up as he looked at her closely. “What do you know about her, who are you?” Jarred asked as he felt himself grip the phaser he had in his back. “Why should I trust you?” he asked her as he needed more. This woman seemed to expect him to trust her just cause she knew someone he suspected as a spy wasn’t going to work this way.

“I know more about her than you do, both on and off the record,” she said, reclining on the sofa casually. “I think for the moment it’s safer for everyone if I don’t tell you exactly how, but I do know that after her last mission with Intelligence she told them basically to go to hell. And with good reason. This posting to the Manhattan is a new start of sorts, but it’s already been made overly complicated and she’s being strung along by someone I haven’t been able to identify yet. One false move and I have no doubt she’ll be made to be a scapegoat for whatever the fallout is. Now, she’s new to the ship and you don’t know her all that well. You don’t have a reason to trust her beyond a basic ‘we’re all officers’ sense of duty. We’re on the same team Creed. And Faye is on that team too, even if she’s being manipulated into possibly doing something that might go against the team. And all I know for sure about that is that it’s got to go pretty high up and have a pretty wide reach for someone like Faye to matter to any of it.”

~?

“That doesn’t answer my question, what Faye is into, while important… doesn’t explain a damn reason why I should trust you… or believe any of this. Forgive me if I am not quick to just go with the word of someone I just meet using my code name and telling me about some agent I have questions regarding their motivation. So, who are you… how are you associated with this all… and why shouldn’t I take you in for questioning?” Jack said, his tone stern and demanding as he looked at her.

The woman held up her hand and stuck out a thumb. “Because someone is feeding the Manhattan alternate orders and you need my help to figure out who,”-she held up her index finger-“and I’m the one whose assignment has been to track all this for more than two years, and”-she added her middle finger-“I’m with Intelligence like you, but I’ve only ever been undercover until recently. I can give you my code name, but then you’ll learn everything about me and I need to know if you’re going to give me the benefit of the doubt before I blow up the carefully constructed world some people have built.” She didn’t say that it was Faye’s world she was mindful of disrupting- he didn’t need to know that just yet.

~?

“You and I both know that isn’t going to cut it, anyone could tell me they are intelligence. That doesn’t mean anything. Give me more of a reason or I walk out and come back with a security team. I am not going to ask again, who are you… designation, rank… I want it all. I don’t have time to play games, and if you want to help this Faye out like you claim now is the time to start talking or else.” Jack said with a furious glare, he was growing tired of secrets and people refusing to answer. If he wanted answers he was going to drag them out of her if he had to.
