The Ops Chief walked into the lounge and ordered dinner. He took a seat next to the window and looked out, watching the stars pass by. After a few moments, he looked down at his dinner and, with a small shrug, began to eat.

Hammor, COO

William was starving his first day and cleaning his office. He had thought about just getting something from the replicator in his quarters butreconsidered since he hadn’t met very much of the crew yet. What better place than the communal lounge where he could observe his crewmates in thier more relaxed and natural environment. It would be good to also note who wasn’t present as well. William freshened up a bit so his golden wavy hair was a still a bit damp as he made to the lounge way with the help of his map.
When he walked in he saw the lounge was packed with crew which was of little surprise since it was right after a shift change. After collecting his plate William noticed there was a spot open at the table next to a rather impressive looking Orion. With a smile he walked over with his plate of some kind of meat with gravy with rice.
“Good evening, would you mind if I shared your table,” William asked kindly his british accent thick from nerves.

William Cunningham-Civilian Counselor

OOC: Are you waiting for someone specific to join you or can William come say hello? Just didn’t want to upset any plans.-Mary

OOC: Open to anyone! Please feel free to stop by!
OOC: Thanks!

Daggum looked up at the unexpected question and quickly swallowed the bite of fish he had in his mouth while simultaneously nodding his head and motioning for the man to have a seat. As soon as he could, he smiled and said “Sorry, mouthful. Please.” and he held out a large green hand which had several scars across the knuckles and back. “Lieutenant Daggum Hammor. Operations Chief. “

Hammor, COO

William smiled with a nod in recoginition, pleased to have been recieved so warmly. He knew it was sometimes hard for people to accept new crewmembers when they were worked with a tight knit group for so long. He sat down and took a deep breath in relief.
“A pleasure to meet you. My name is William Cunningham the ship’s new counselor. I’m civilian so still trying to get my barrings. Thank you for allowing me to share your table,” William said sincerely and then he took a few bites of his own dinner before he decided to speak again.
“Cheif of operations is a big job, I’ll bet it keeps you on your toes,” Willam said casually, meaning it he couldn’t imgaine the stress the man must endure. Though from the look of his new friend he wasn’t one to break under pressure.

William Cunningham-Counselor

Hammor smiled a bit and said “It has it’s moments. That’s for sure. But it keeps life interesting as well. Every blessing has a curse, and vice-versa. Right, Counselor?” Daggum replied and took a bite of the steak that sat on his plate.

Hammor, COO

William chuckled and gave Hammor a nod in agreement. “I have found that most things are more complicated than they first appear whether they are a blessing or a curse usually depends on our perspective at the time.” William took another bite of his food, beef with gravy and rice, and then washed it down with some water.
“For now I am willing to count being on the Manhattan and having dinner with a new friend a blessing,” William mused once he was able to speak again.
“Perhaps you can help me, I’ve been trying to figure out where to go to get aquainted with the crew in a more relaxed setting, and the lounge is nice but usually people are here for a quick meal and then head out again. Where do people generally go to hang out to when they have free time,” William asked thinking perhaps the more direct route of askin directions were in order here since the opportunity presented itself.

William Cunningham-Counselor

OOC: I’ll be joining in if that is okay.

As Gwyn walked by she heard the counselor ask his question and then walked over to him and replied, “Working.” She took a seat and smiled. “We happen to do that a lot on this ship. Gets repetitive sometimes.”

Ensign Gwyn Frazer Engineer

OOC: Sure! Glad to have you!-Mary

William looked at the woman, an Ensign by the insignia on her uniform. It was nice to recieve such a warm reception so far while trying to find his place on this large ship.
“I have noticed workaholic tendencies in Star-fleet crew members, the Athena has proved no exception,” William said with a grin and then he offered his hand.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m William Cunningham the ships counselor.”

William Cunningham-Counselor

“I’m Gwyn. The new engineer. That’s something we have in common.” She said shaking his hand. “So, a civilian as a ships counselor. I’ve never seen that before. Of course, I’ve been on very few ships.” She said hiding her cybernetic hand from both of them.

Ensign Gwyn Frazer. Engineer

“The Ensign is right.” and he gestured for her to be seated if she so choose. “Most of us tend to work a lot. But if someone has free time, they usually spend it here or in the holodeck. Those things get quite a workout on this ship.”

Hammor, CoO

William nodded it did make sense since people on this ship all served an important function and had o fufil their duty for the success of the crew as a whole. It felt a bit daunting but gave him a feeling of pride at the same time to be part of something so much bigger than himself.
“Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind, but it’s healthy for the crew to use the holodeck often as long as it doesn’t become pure escapism which can be as addictive as any drug,” William said to them both and then he chuckled. “I’m sorry it seems this crew isn’t the only ones who tend to work even when they shouldn’t,” William admitted and then he put his fork down with a gentle sigh. “How do you like your new ship so far,” William asked them wanting to keep the conversation light. This wasn’t a therapy session after all.

William Cunningham-Counselor

Hammor looked at the Engineer. “Ensign? How about it? You can go first. How do you like the ship?”

Hammor, COO

“I like it. People are nice. I hope actually. I haven’t met enough to make a complete observation but, that would be my educated guess.” She smiled.

Ensign Gwyn Frazer Engineer

Daggum smiled and said “Agreed. On both counts. It seems a bit… difficult… breaking into the already formed groups on board. Not that people aren’t friendly and welcoming. It’s more that reaching out to new crew doesn’t seem to be much of a priority. It’s more of an afterthought. At least from what I’ve seen. But I tell ya, once you are welcomed into a group, it’s pretty nice .” he said with a chuckle.

Hammor, CoO

William nodded in solidarity, “Well it seems we have started our own little group here so that’s a start,” William replied approvingly. He liked the fact Ensign Frazer and COO Hammor were honest abouthe difficulties of establishing their place here. It made it easier for William to undestand and commiserate with them.
“I’ve found people to be pleasant as well, but it’s such a large ship I think it will take awhile for all of new personnel to get our feet wet ,” William added and then he chuckled, “I hope being from London has prepared me for all the diverse personalities on this ship.”

William Cunningham-Counselor

Hammor said “I’ve always wanted to see London in person. Heard great things. Never had a chance to see Earth during my time at the Academy.”

Hammor, CoO

“Maybe while on leave some time I could show you around. It’s a beautiful city full of interesting people,” William said fondly his smile reaching his eyes with the thought of home.

William Cunningham-Counselor

“I will definitely take you up on that, for sure.” Daggum responded warmly. “I’ve always wanted to try real fish and chips.” he added with a grin.

Hammor, CoO

“Stop making me hungry. I would love to go there too. I’ve heard the city is always bright. Sounds amazing.”

Ensign Gwyn Frazer Engineer

William grinned, “We’ll make plans. The fish and chips from the replicator just don’t compare, and you should hear the music from the theaters and music halls.” William ate a little more of his food and then he looked at his compaions. “Just out of curiosity what would you show me about your homes if we ever visit them together? I am facsinated by different cultures,” William admitted.

William Cunningham-Conselor

Hammor’s smile faltered slightly as he shook his head and looked down for a moment. “If we found ourselves where I grew up, I don’t think ‘fascinated’ is the feeling you would be experiencing.” he said with a slight chuckle and then he looked up and away from the table for a second before looking at his dining companions. “The area of Orion I grew up isn’t exactly a tourist spot. I would likely be showing you both how to get out of there… and fast!” and he said with bit of a forced chuckle.

Hammor, CoO

Gwyn looked at Hammor and gave him a pat on the back. “Don’t worry. All you can see in Louisiana is gators.” She said and did not realize that she had used an obvious accent when she said gators. “Along with heat. A lot of heat.”

Ensign Gwyn Frazer Engineer

William grinned at Gwyen, “I’ve only seen them in zoos,” he admitted but I did hear the food there was exqusite,” he said to her glad to learn about about her. The Counselor then nodded symathetically to Hammor, realizing that the had hit a sore subject for his new friend. “I’m sorry. I hope we can one day help to make your home safer for it’s people,” he said sincerely thinking about what kind of project that would. It would be complicated and would take a lot more than just the three of them. But even so he wished he could help. “There are places in London that are rougher than others but I hadn’t experienced that first hand,” he admitted.

Wiliam Cunningham-Counselor

OOC: Sorry, I accidently cut out Gwen so I added her back in and replied to her- Mary

Hammor looked up and grinned. “I doubt that would be welcome. Most Orions tend to revel in the seedier side of life. I mean, the whole of Orion economy is based on illicit trade and smuggling. But don’t worry about saving Orion from itself. It’s lasted this long, I doubt anything will change that.” and he took a breath and shook off any negative feelings. He looked at Frazer and said “Gators, huh? What are those?”

Hammor, COO

“Large reptiles. Huge and strong. They can… They can bite your hand off.” She looked down at her own missing hand replaced by robotics. “They live in swamps. Under the water. I said gators. That’s an abbreviation. Full name is alligator.”
