“It doesn’t matter where they’re from,” Logan said. “Not as long as we can figure out what they want.”

Panels across the bridge began issuing urgent beeps and whistles. The computer overrode its human controllers as it detected an imminent threat and Red Alert klaxons erupted across the ship. Sensors had detected 30, 40, 60, 100, 140, 180, 356 plasma torpedoes on a high-speed approach from multiple vectors. Target vectors matched the Event Horizon Station, Manhattan, Both Support ships and at least thirty would pass through the neutrino envelope of the wormhole. These torpedoes had appeared from nowhere, simply materializing on sensors, just as the probes before them had done. The initial impact would take place in eleven seconds.

SGM

Nutter butter why is it always when I am in the seat, flashed through her mind. “Sheilds up,” she ordered quickly while at the same time sending a message to the captain. =/\=Sir we have incoming=/\=. Celina rose to her feet as she spoke. No one took potshots at Cochrane’s girl. He was probably already on his way to the bridge before she even had the reaction time to make the call.

Cochrane ran onto the bridge. “Shield’s up! Evasive maneuvers! All hands to battle stations!” and he looked at the tactical console. “Fire full spread torpedoes and phasers! Stop as many as you can!”

Cochrane, CO

Logan brought up the shields and weapons as directed. He satartes to target the enemy’s fire to what the ship’s computer could handle.

“Sir sensors report over 350 plasma torpedoes on route from multiple vectors targeting the Event Horizon Station, Manhattan, the support ships. Some are within range to enter the wormhole. Impact in less than,” she quickly did the calculations in her head subtracting the time it took her to react and Cochrane to enter the bride, “eight seconds,” she reported her best guess already across the bridge and at her console.

Lt. Celina Rodriguez CTO

Sensors could detect no ships, only the vast group of approaching weapons. They had seemingly materialized from nowhere.

Logan fired what he could in that time. “Plasma torpedoes…” He muttered as he worked.

CoS

Phasers and torpedoes lanced out from the Manhattan, slicing through space, targetting scanners barely keeping up with the sheer quantity. Fortunately, it didn’t seem to take too much to destroy these torpedoes. A very brief contact with phaser energy was sufficient to detonate them. Rolling beams continuously from target to target eliminated nearly thirty of those targeting the Manhattan. Unfortunately, they only had time for a single volley from each torpedo launcher.

“Transferring emergency power to the shields,” Walker said as he quickly tried to reinforce the shields, in the hopes that they would survive the hits.

WO Darach - COO

Shields were fully charged. The addition of emergency power raised their capacity temporarily to 142%. Sensors indicated that Chisca Bay and Vigilante were firing their own weapons as rapidly as they could. Vigilante was having more success, her rate of fire significantly more rapid than the slower, larger Chisca Bay. Event Horizon had no weapons of her own, but did have a powerful suite of shield generators. Their sensors were temporarily blinded as the first torpedoes detonated, swamping power signatures from the other two ships and the station. There was a sudden increase in neutrino emissions as visual sensors detected the wormhole event horizon opening, seemingly in reaction to the weapons fire.

Logan was still targeting and firing as he reported, “With the limited weapons that this ship has, I might be able to stop up to 10 of those plasma torpedoes. On my best day, maybe 20.”
“However. The torpedoes that I know dissipate over a range. If we could somehow get all of those torpedoes to target this ship. And then outrun them… I just don’t know how we can do it.”

CoS

“Just protect that station! We have civilians on there!” Cochrane barked and then activated the comms. Broadcasting on all frequencies he said “Vaadwaur vessel, hold your fire!” It was a long shot, but maybe if they knew that they were there then the assault could be called off.

Cochrane, CO

There was no answer from the ship, if there was one. Sensors still didn’t register that there was any ship, just hundreds of torpedoes. 157 remaining, as of that moment

“I’m targeting each one of our forward firing weapons to one of the plasma torpedoes that are targeting the base, Sir,” Logan reported. “But if one ship can fire two torpedoes, we’re looking at a fleet of potentially 175 enemy ships. And 116 of their torpedoes per target.”

CoS

“Captain, if you want to try lure the torpedoes away, we aren’t going to be able to keep firing on them. We are going to need all the power we have for engines and shields.”

WO Darach - COO

As phasers and torpedoes continued to lance out from all directions at those already striking the other ships and the station, the first waves reached the Manhattan. The ship rocked violently, the engineering console on the bridge exploding in a shower of sparks as energy surged through the ship. Shields were overwhelmed almost immediately, energy coursing through them and striking at the ship. Hull breaches opened on decks 7, 11, 18 and 22. The warp drive overloaded from the strain on it providing power to the shields. In Main engineering, the primary console erupted in sparks and plasma began pouring from a ruptured coolant line next to the warp core. The main impulse reactors locked down and engaged emergency shutdown procedures to avoid an overload. Power on the bridge fluctuated as the lights dimmed, failed, came back dimly and failed again before the auxiliary generators kicked in. What seemed like minutes passed, though in reality less than 30 seconds before the ship stopped shaking violently and the chaotic sound of distant explosions and consoles exploding was replaced by a ringing silence that itself gave way to moans. Dense smoke lay in a choking ring across the bridge, indicating that environmental controls were offline.

Shields were down to 12%, though they had miraculously survived more than eighty direct and indirect hits. These plasma torpedoes were seemingly weaker than expected. Warp drive was offline, impulse engines were locked down and offline pending a restart. Aside from the hull breaches, environmental controls down down across the upper decks, including the bridge. Torpedo launchers were functional, but without the warp core didn’t have the power to fire. Phaser power was down to 18% and two dorsal emitters were offline.

From the depths of the ship came a comm from someone following the situation closely. =/\=Calloway to Bridge. Just a thought on our rather dire looking current situation. We’ve got aux craft on the ship, and a Chandley-class ship at the base, not to mention a sleek Avenger-class destroyer. Toss some of us better pilots in the hot seat and we can draw some of the heat. Could be enough.=/\= She was including herself in the category of ‘better pilots’, of course. After all, how many people managed to survive being chased by not one, but two Romulan warbirds across the border? If he agreed to the idea and didn’t let her go out there, he was insane.

~Faye Calloway, Data Specialist

“If we look at it from a tactical standpoint, those ships could be used as a distraction,” Riali pointed out, “if the Vaadwaur vessel does not respond to demands to cease fire, the confusion of other vessels would give the Manhattan the time to locate a possible weak spot about the Vaadwaur vessel–allowing us a chance to, if only temporarily, disable it.” Deandres did not believe in harming the opposing crew, should the vessel have one at all, but she found most hostile persons were more apt to talking when they didn’t have the advantage of destroying their opposer. “Of course, that is assuming our weapons have any effect against their ship’s defence array.”

Riali Deandres, CSO

“It’s a good plan Sir,” Celina said. “Just don’t hit us in the process. Permission to head to the hangar,” she asked. Celina tried not to sound overly excited. She didn’t like the command seat but a small craft that was fast and built for tactical maneuvers was the exact seat she wanted to be sitting in.

Lt. Celina Rodriguez CTO

OOC: Correct me if I am wrong, but I was operating under the impression that we only had seconds before impact? Wouldn’t be enough time to launch.

James

OOC: Correct, it’s too late to stop the torpedoes. And in the space between that announcement and when Faye called, the torpedoes should have already started hitting their targets, and the Manhattan’s torpedo spread should have reached Something. 8 seconds isn’t very long and that was with Celina adjusting the time for her report from the GM’s response. But we need the GM to show us what happens. Faye’s suggestion is more about the aftermath and giving themselves the best options for whatever comes next. But where are the Chisca Bay and Vigilante? They are NPC ships whose role is defensive support of the station, so shouldn’t they be , you know, defending the station? ~Linds

OOC: I’ve tried to reconstruct the timeline as best I can with reasonable pauses. I’ll let everyone else interject where they need to to pick the threads back up. I’ll also let everyone describe their own personal injuries, if any.

SGM

Cochrane regained his seat and wiped blood from the cut in his left eyebrow, a result of a piece of the panel catching him. “Damage report! All Damage Control teams to critical areas. Get me a casualty report, and someone get the Event Horizon, Vigilante, and Chisca bay on comms. I want to know how they made out. And someone please figure out how the hell they got all those torpedoes fired from out of nowhere!”

Cochrane, CO

That’s going to leave a nasty bruise, Riali thought to herself, shaking her wrist to attempt relief from the pain of slamming it against the metal base of her console. Pushing herself up, she turned to the ship’s scanners in effort to run a scan searching for heightened neutrino emissions in the vicinity of the Vaadwaur vessel. She had only caught a glimpse but based on previous scans, it had been noted levels had increased following initial weapons’ fire. She wanted to see if that was still the case and if it could, one: point them in the direction of where the onslaught of torpedoes had come from and two: show any correlation to the wormhole’s status.

Lt. Deandres, CSO

Sensors detected no vessels other than their own. There were no ion trails, no unusual tachyon readings. Nothing appeared out of the ordinary beyond the dissipating energy of the many, many torpedoes that had detonated. Chisca Bay was adrift in space, her poor manouvering leaving her particularly vulnerable. Life support was stable aboard her, but main power was offline. Avenger had fared a little better. Impulse and thrusters were active, but she was venting atmosphere from hull breaches across her dorsal side. The station had fared best, her shields being significantly stronger than any of her support ships. Station shields were down to 22% and there were significant energy surges reading across the power grid, but little damage beyond the cosmetic.

SGM

The impact of the torpedos on the ship sent Celina flying to the right. She would have crashed into the wall if Ensign Brian Decker had not been in her way. Celina’s body was thrown into his stopping her from any real injuries. The man was six foot four and full of muscles however compared to a metal wall, it was like falling onto a training mat. Even with Decker’s superior mass, the momentum of Celina’s body sent Decker crashing into the wall instead of her. Instinctively he held on to the CTO so that she would not get flung into something or impact him in a way to cause both of them more injuries. It took the pair a second to gather their sea legs as the rippling impacts from the torpedos slowly subsided and the ship stopped shaking. It was then Celina looked at Brian and Brian looked at his hands.

“Um…uh..I,” he eyes got wide as he watched Celina’s eyes stare back at him with a mild hint of amusement. There was no amusement in his eyes as they flicked to the XO’s seat. Oh god the XO is gonna kill me Brian thought as he shoved Celina to her feet with all the grace of a linebacker trying to stop someone from reaching the end zone. The shove righted her instantly and placed her almost in the exact spot in front of her console. Maybe the XO was to busy doing XO things Brian’s mind raced as he thought about where his hands had landed to break Celina’s fall or where they had gone to push the CTO back to her console.

Looking over Jack braced himself from the hit as he saw the happenings. He thought very little of it to be honest but a small smirk came over his face as he couldn’t help but find a little bit of humor in the situation. “She used to same tactic once to handcuff and arrest me back when we first meet, it was a brilliant first date.” Jack said with a smirk as he looked back to his console as he began reading off the readings to himself checking the systems of the ship and the impact.

“Sir sensors detected no other vessels in the area other than our own. Ion trails and tachyon readings are negative for ships also,” Celina replied as she read the results off her console. Glancing over at Deandres, Celina said in a hurried tone, “you okay?”

Lt. Celina Rodriguez CTO

“Captain,” Walker said, stopping to cough from the smoke on the bridge, “we are definitely not going to be going anywhere fast.”

Using the console, Walker pulled himself back up as he started trying to get any reports in from the damaged systems. “Environmental controls are down, and we are without main power. Warp engines are down, and no report on when they might be back up. Hopefully we will have some impulse engines, or it will be a long trip back to the starbase.”

While they waited for additional system reports to come in, he tried testing the comm arrays to see if they were even still functional to call Event Horizon, Vigilante, and Chisca Bay .

WO Darach - COO

Comm channels were functional, albeit somewhat patchy and more than a little overloaded with chatter

SGM

=/\=Sir do you need medical teams to the bridge,=/\= Jasmine commed in as she started to triage the causalities starting to be reported in.

Lt. Jasmine Wynter CMO

=/\= I think we are good for now.=/\= Jack replied as he glanced around the bridge. So far no injuries but a few scrapes but that wouldn’t last for long if they kept this up.

Creed, XO

Looking over the system results from the comm arrays he smiled, at least something was working. Tapping a few keys on his console, he hailed Event Horizon, Vigilante and the Chisca Bay. But while he waited, he started to look over what was coming across the open comm channels.

WO Darach - COO

All three responded at once. Chisca Bay reported that the Captain and first officer were injured and receiving treatment. The chief operations officer, Lieutenant Whitney was in command at present. Life support was running at basic levels, the dilythium chamber had ruptured and would take at least a day to replace. They would be down for at least a week before being even vaguely functional in a fight. Vigilante had fared better, though her warp core was also down, a surge having blown the main EPS junction and overloaded the matter/antimatter reaction chamber. She had some minimal weapons and could manouver under impulse, but given that her phasers were run through the warp core for extra power, they were very weak in a fight. Captain Winchester reported that Event Horizon had fared relatively well. Some surface damage and a few blown relays. Shields were compromized, but under repair, and there were minimal injuries.

SGM

Logan gave out the damage reports from the other ships as they came through from what he could tell on his end.

“The enemy plasma torpedoes are surprisingly under powered, Captain,” he said. “Under normal circumstances, we should all be dead. And they don’t seem to have any counter measures to our weapons.”

“I’ve also not seen any ship that could fire more than two of those torpedoes at a time.”

CoS

“Well, at least no one is dead. Chalk one up for Engineering and the shield emitters.” Cochrane said wryly. Looking at Darach, he said “Chief, full status report in five. XO, get me numbers on casualties. Tactical and Science! Keep an eye out for more surprise guests. If you so much as think you see something, tag it and track it. Security, lock down all non-essential areas and let’s try and corral everyone. If we can get some sections empty, seal them off and turn off environmental controls and let’s try and get Mr. Wynter and Mr. Darach some extra power to work with. Whatever defense and offensive systems we have left, keep them charged and on stand by.” and then a thought occurred to him.

“Understood sir.” Jack said, already looking up the information. He was getting Medical teams alerted and moving on as the orders went to the locations he saw the highest level of casualties.

“Lt. Rodriguez. Chart the paths of all those torpedoes back to when they were first detected. Let’s see if they came from the same spot. If they did Helm, take us there asap.”

Cochrane, CO

Because of the sheer number of torpedoes and their massive energy profile, sensor records were scattered, but half seemed to have originated at the original probes coordinates and the other half at its second appearance. Now that radiation in the area was starting to settle, the areas they’d received brief subspace readings from were now saturated with subspace energy. The extreme edge of short range sensors were able to detect a subspace tear around the area the torpedoes and probe seemed to have originated. They had already been on their way to the second insertion point as the torpedoes appeared. It was now less than 12 minutes away at warp 6… provided they could reestablish warp power.

SGM

Creed, XO

“I want to know how a couple of ships can fire off three hundred plasma torpedoes,” Logan said. “Even our most fortified space station can fire only a hundred photon torpedoes. And those are staggered in volleys.”
