Cochrane walked into the conference room and took his seat at the head of the table. He pulled up all the information he had on the Graveniles and their homeworld, Graven XII, and then waited for the Department Heads to arrive.

Cochrane, CO

It was only a minute later that Max arrived with Celina and Jasmine from the Shuttle Bay. “Good Morning, Cap’n,” he nodded in Cochranes direction then moved to let Jasmine and Celina take their seats before he moved to his beside his wife.

Lt Cmdr Wynter, CE

“Commander Wynter. Lieutenants. We will begin the briefing once the rest of the Command staff arrives. Till, then… questions?”

Cochrane, CO

Logan entered the conference room. “Captain,” he acknowledged. He took his chair. He had a few data padds with him.

Max looked at Cochrane and tapped his fingers, his jaw worked slightly and he raised an eyebrow. “Not even a hyperspanner, Captain? Do they expect us to provide support more advanced than they are willing to achieve with tools that won’t support that work?”

Lt Cmdr Wynter, CE

“I would think that would be an engineer’s dream Commander,” Walker said as he walked in. “It sounds like a great problem to try and solve to me.”

Taking one of the chairs Walker looked around at the rest of the room. “Plus I’m not sure a hyperspanner is the right tool to solve their problems in the first place, whatever it is.”

WO Darach - COO

“I’m well studied in the time period in question,” Logan said. “For Earth, anyway.”

“And there are plenty of examples of planets that we made members of the Federation who didn’t have warp drive technology. They were either of strategic importance, or provided an essential resource.”

Olivia made her way into the conference room looking like she hadn’t slept in days. She had managed to make her self look presentable, and had her coffee in tow. With a nod to everyone and a quite good morning she took her seat and waited for the rest of the senior officers to arrive.

Grace, CNS

“Logan,” Celina tapped the table with her fingertips. “Maybe we should run some drills with the primitive projectile weapons they have for security purposes. I think they are about one step up from ball and muskets compared to our weapons. It might do us some good to feel and see the differences in the holodeck before we get there and have to adjust on the spot.” Like most in the security field, Celina enjoyed shooting things for target practice but each weapon did feel different when you shot them.

Jasmine looked at the counselor. She looked like she hadn’t slept in days. She knew the woman worked hard and was one of the few people who literally could be on call twenty four hours a day. “Busy couple of days. Looks like the crew has kept you hopping,” Jasmine asked taking a sip of her coffee.
“Don’t make the mistake of underestimating their projectile weapons,” Logan said. “Even in the hands of a novice, at range, they’re every bit as deadly as a one of our phasers. Their only real drawback is that they require ammunition.”

CoS

“I can’t even imagine being in a firefight and losing due to not having enough bullets,” Celina tried not to laugh. For years this was the method of warfare for humanity. She had watched period films like Thunder Gun: Ferengi Swamp Mission or the Bishop Bomb ‘em movies where they came into a scene loaded down with strings of bullets holding what was once called a machine gun taking out an entire military base, saving the girl, and the world from the domination of communism, dictators, and terrorist groups. At times the films were laughable at the sheer superhuman feats of athletics as one man took on ten men with nothing but his bare hands and won. What wasn’t funny was they there were going to a place where this was the norm.

“Weapon discipline and familiarity helps a lot with that,” Logan replied. “One shot. One kill.”

CoS

“I can understand a species saying no to warp technology. But not to the other things that come with it. Like medicine. Or environmental advances.”

CoS

Olivia looked over to the CMO “very much so” she took the last drink of her coffee, and looked back at the door wondering where Alexander was. He was never late to his own meetings and it had her worried.

OOC: Just a note, if you read up in the thread you will see the CO is sitting at the same table, James has just been LOA with some rather important things.

Lt. Grace, CNS

“We can probably get away with by adding experimental to anything they see of our medical stuff. Starfleet or not I can respect their wishes but I am not subjecting anyone on the away team to their medicine. I will maybe suggest the away team come down to medical before we ship out to make sure everything is copasetic,” Jasmine said pulling out a PaDD. The crew was generally healthy so Jasmine didn’t expect anything to turn up or anything she could not handle. Prudence was the best course of action though always.

Lt. Jasmine Wynter CMO

“I agree,” Max said in reply to Jasmine. “It would be unfortunate to release a plague of Klingon Herpes on a world that will refuse to use the medication for it. I do suggest a review of the tools and technology of the time by each department, maybe some workshops in using them before we arrive on site. We may be far more advanced these days but it doesn’t mean we know how to use a lot of that old stuff like we know how to use our current technology, most of us would be lost working on a steam engine from Earths 19th Century for example.”

Lt Cmdr Wynter, CE

“Makes sense to me Chief. We’d hate to get into a situation, and end up not being able to help because we don’t understand the tools. Especially in the middle of a critical situation.”

Walker leaned back and took a sip of his coffee. “Did they give any indication on what exactly we will be fixing?”

WO Darach - COO

OCC Okay so while James is on LOA, I am going to write that he is on a call so that we can move this to “a Graven XII city” in the holodeck so we have a place to post. I messaged James and told him I was autoing his character so we can do this and have an easy way to pick back up later. If anyone wants to start the “pre-warp city” thats perfect if not I will try to do it in a day or so. ~ Kate.

“So I brought up a program on Graven XII for us to blend in with the Graveniles before we have to blend in with the Graveniles.” Celina glanced at the head of the conference table watching Cochrane still in a comm call with whoever was on the line. The wave of his hand and nod indicated to her it was okay for the moment to disperse. “Who’s with me,” Celina stood up and headed to the door.

Lt. Celina Rodriguez CTO

Walker shrugged. “Guess it can’t hurt to get a better idea of what the place looks like. I’m in Lieutenant.”

WO Darach - COO

“I’m in,” Logan said. “Hmm. I wonder what the parameters of this Don’t Use Warp Tech means? If one of us gets shot, and we can only save him if we beam him directly to Sickbay, but we’re in the middle of the busy market, are we hosed?”

CoS

“Nah we just say he isn’t going to make it, stick them in a body bag and then beam them up. No one ever checks body bags. I would know,” Celina shrugged and let out a deep sigh indicating she had personal knowledge of this. “Oh, and bonus,” she rose from the table with a smile, “if you get bit by a snake Jasmine here will suck the poison out.”
