Feeling rather giddy, Kiama walked slowly down the corridor from her quarters to the counsellor’s office. Her black eyes sparkled with the delight of being on this ship. Her first assignment since her recent graduation from the Academy. And what was even better, an assignment that took her pretty much as far away from her mother as possible. Of course, it would be easy enough for Jeanoya to reach her daughter via subspace transmission and if she wanted to she would probably also find a way to come all the way to the Delta Quadrant in person. But those were possibilities Kiama didn’t even want to think about, so she pushed them to the back of her mind and instead focused on the here and now.

Several minutes later the Ensign arrived in front of the door to the counsellor’s office and without hesitation the mocha skinned Betazoid pressed the chime and made sure her uniform and hair were still in order.

bump?

Olivia looked up at the sound of the chime slightly startled. She paused the letter to her mother, and stood “enter” as her guest would enter she would see a large leather sofa to her right, and on the opposite wall a floor to ceiling book shelf with books from all over the galaxy and beyond.

Grace, CNS

Her back straight and her delight and excitement visibel on her dark face, Kiama stepped into the Counsellor’s office the moment the doors swished open in front of her. “Hello Lieutenant,” she said while the doors swished close behind her again. “I’m Ensign Kiama Naim, one of the new science officers. I’m here for my boarding evaluation.” With her hands linked behind her back, she remained close to the door and try to focus solely on the counsellor, but more than once her black eyes started to wander and she looked around the room instead.

bump…

Olivia smiled at the science officer as she approached her and extended her hand to her. “I’m Olivia Grace. Please do have a seat” she gave the ensign the option of either sitting at her desk or enjoying the comfort of the sofa.

Kiama took the counsellor’s hand and shook it briefly, her grasp firm, but not so much so that it would hurt the other woman’s hand. She then walked over to the sofa and sat down, her back straight and her legs crossed at the knee.

“May I get you anything to drink?” The counselor made her way toward the replicator to refresh her cup of coffee. As she waited for the ensign she ordered her mocha with a shot of expresso.

“A glass of sparkling water with a little rhubarb juice would be great, thank you,” Kiama replied with a smile. It was a drink a friend at the Academy had introduced her to and it quickly became one of her favourites. While she waited for the counsellor to join her, she made sure that her mental shields were still in place. For as excited as she was to be on the Manhattan, part of her also dreaded this conversation; especially since the other woman was also (part) Betazoid. And there were just things about herself, that Kiama didn’t really like talking about.
