Faye waved her off slightly. “Nah, I’m all good,” she said, moving for a chair. Settling herself in and leaning back, Calloway gazed at Kiama curiously. “So, now that you’re running the show, as it were, I bet you’re curious what I can actually tell you about my work.”

“Your bet is correct,” Kiama replied as she sat down on her chair again; her back straight and her legs crossed at the knees. Though, while there was a certain stiffness about her posture, she didn’t seem uncomfortable or tense. “And I would like to enlist you to help the science department during the upcoming mission. But we can talk about that later. First I’d like to know all you can tell me about your work and yourself. I’ve read your file. Or at least all of it I have access to.” To herself, she added, Though that raised more questions than it answered. Aloud she continued, “And in return you can ask me whatever you want to know about me.” While she was a fairly social person, there were things about herself that she didn’t like to talk about. Yet she had a feeling that if she sincerely offered the chance to ask questions in return, Faye might feel ever so slightly more comfortable.

For a moment Faye wished she had her swivelling chair from the lab. There was something about turning back and forth that allowed her more nervous energy to be expelled in a controlled way. “Well, what I told you before is true. Much of my work is classified and restricted to the captain and first officer. But what I can say is that I am essentially reinforcing the Manhattan’s firewall systems and improving external communications. My task is to improve data security and ensure we can communicate with the Alpha Quadrant via the wormhole as we need to.” Would that prompt more questions? Scientists by their nature were curious people so Faye certain expected it.
