Faye just couldn’t help herself and broke into a grin, all the while shaking her head. She took Jasmine’s hand and shook it once firmly. “It’s a deal.” She gave a half chuckle. “You’ve got guts, Wynter, that’s for sure.” She already knew that and had known it for awhile, ever since Faye had woken up in Sickbay after the exploding conduit. Faye had been exceptionally vulnerable during that time and it had been something more on Jasmine’s part than just being a doctor that had resonated with Faye when she had woken up with her eyes bandaged, terrified that her nightmare of being back with the Tal Shiar had come true. Those few dissociative moments had been soothed by more than just bedside manner and even now she wasn’t sure how to express to the CMO what that had meant to her. They could joke, eye patch and all, but to have a sincere reason to not just take Jasmine at her word but trust her? Well, it was a bloody miracle and one of several that seemed to have surfaced since she had arrived on this ship. Faye wasn’t optimistic enough to think that her fortunes had turned, but she was sure as hell willing to take some tentative steps towards what could be a place of peace. Whatever that looked like.

“Nah I just like you,” she laughed as she let go of Faye’s hand. For all that Faye seemed to be giving Jasmine, the woman had no idea how much Jasmine was gaining from the newly formed friendship. At times people thought you had it all because you were living the Federation dream but dreams were fragile things that tended to shatter in a breath.

“Goodness knows why,” Faye said dryly, smirking ever so slightly. “Maybe you need a therapist more than I do.”

Grabbing another tray, Faye gestured to the one Jasmine had already filled. “Go ahead and put three seeds in each and we’ll have to mark that tray as goinza vine. And I’m going to start a tray of mixed wildflowers I was given.”

Jasmine picked up the seeds could not help but fight the huge burst of laughter trying to surface. When she could not laugh, Jasmine’s eyes started to water making her the poster child for the Hallmark womanly movies where the actress cried over being so happy. “I’m sorry,” she wiped her eyes with the back of her smudge filled hands. “It’s just....you called....them....goinza,” Jasmine fought to get out the words between laughing, “and all…I could think,” her body shook harder until she put a hand on her tummy, “was oh crap you are goinza die with me planting you.” Jasmine worked to get herself back together. She had no idea if Faye did or did not plan it but from this moment on Jasmine decided no matter what Faye was going to be listed as funny as hell in her book. People not might take the time to see or appreciate Faye’s humor but Jasmine did.

Calloway just looked at Jasmine and with a look that said, Woman, you need help. She just shook her head and went back to her seeds.

As she worked, she considered Jasmine thoughtfully. “I don’t think you’re silly or weird for having married a man you never met but some test said you would get along with. In my books, that’s pretty damn brave. Braver than picking up a weapon and fighting. That I can do. Right now I can barely handle the feelings I may or may not have for someone, let alone actually have a relationship that lasts long enough to get married.”

“Oh my god, you should take the Ministry’s test. Now before you say no,” Jasmine held up her hands before she could protest with a thumb as black as Jasmine claimed from the dirt, “hear me out. You don’t have to be Mintaran to take it. You will probably only get a Mintaran man that responds but it could be fun. It will take about six months to complete if you answer a few every night but who knows. Besides, it might give you some more insight into who you are unless you have your sights set on a specific someone you may or may not have feelings for.” Picking up the seeds Faye asked her to plant, Jasmine dropped them in the dirt with the look of an excited mother who kid just announced they were ready for mom’s help in finding a date. Jasmine knew full well no child ever wanted their mom’s help in the love department yet it was hard not to get excited. After tossing several seeds into the trays she turned sharply to face Faye crossing her hands over her body.

“Cochrane,” she announced with the same confidence one would use stating an absolute truth.

Faye’s head turned sharply and her eyes went wide as her mouth dropped open. “How?” Shaking her head, she abruptly got off her stool, suddenly panicked. What it that obvious? Did he somehow know? Oh Gods, she was screwed! She knew she had a tendency towards getting involved with inappropriate people, which is why she had been purposefully ignoring her feelings. Are at least trying. It was hard to fully ignore the warmth she felt when she was around him. He made her feel less crazy, like she had something to offer that someone might actually want.

Her mind was whirling and suddenly it was hard to think. “No, no, no, no. I can’t… this can’t be happening!”

“Of course it is not happening today,” Jasmine waved off her friend with a passive gesture before she realized how on the head she hit the nail. “Wow okay calm down. Don’t deck me,” Jasmine said reaching out to touch Fayes’s elbow. The comment was meant to be both playful and defensive. As feminine as Faye looked the woman could throw one heck of a punch. She was also far stronger than most people would give credit for looking at the woman in uniform. Faye Calloway seemed to have the strength of a two hundred and fifty-pound marine packed inside her 5‘9” an 145-pound frame. Even a playful shoulder jab would hurt if she was the type to throw one. It was little things like this that Jasmine had no idea about with her new friend and would learn.

“Wow you are kinda bad at this,” Jasmine said with a half-grin. “That’s okay I will show you how we work on getting a guy,” she pulled up the chair almost gleefully. “See you don’t just rush in. Then he will think you are crazy. You have to stalk him first and come up with a plan,” she said in a confident tone. “Then you sent the trap and snare him. So we don’t catch him today but only stalk. We should make some coffee,” Jasmine got up and walked to the replicator.
