“Yes, Sir,”replied Naim almost immediately. She then headed towards Byrne Knots and greeted her with a warm smile. “Good day, Minister Knots. I’m Lieutenant Kiama Naim, the Manhattan’s Chief Science Officer and this is my colleague Lieutenant Faye Calloway. It’s a pleasure to meet you. How would you like to proceed from here on?” While she had a plan of her own in mind, she didn’t want to give the impression that they came here to take over or anything. This was their planet and the she and the rest of the crew were guests here. Thus it seemed only right to her, to led the sub-minister lead the way forward.~Lt.jg. Naim, aCSO
Byrne was very eager and she reached out in that eagerness and pumped Naim’s hand in a vigorous shake. “I am so pleased to meet you,” she said and glanced at the retreating figure of the Second Minister. “Call me Knots. First names are typically used in clan homes and the clan name, in my case Knots, outside of that. Otherwise everyone in the house would be Knots and that would be terribly confusing, wouldn’t it.” She turned to Faye and almost sprang forward to shake her hand, braids bouncing.
Byrne Knots
The oft socially awkward Calloway startled a little and looked a bit wary, but stuck out her hand anyway and gave a nod. “Nice to meet you,” she said sincerely, though with noticeably less brightness than Knots projected.
“I’m very interested in the issues you’re experiencing with your crops. I come from a colony that grew a lot of our own food, so while it was n a smaller scale, I know a great deal. Could you explain more about the specific observations you’ve been making?” At least this was something she could focus on and she was most definitely very interested in helping.
