“Then whatever you do don’t talk to the XO or Celina about storybook romance an healthy relationships,” Jasmine walked over to the replicator and ordered a large hot cheese pizza. It was more for a snack than actually eating so Jasmine didn’t fiddle with the toppings. She also had no idea if Faye ate meat or not. It was just easier to go with cheese. Using her hand to push a few things back from the edge of a table, Jasmine sat down and slid the pizza onto the surface. Pulling a piece up she motioned for Faye to sit down.

Faye glanced at Jasmine and the absolutely non-regulation food at their workstation. The coffee was bad enough and she was certain if there was anyone else here they’d definitely say something. Then again Faye and rules were a sometimes nebulous thing, so she sat down and helped herself to a slice. “A healthy relationship doesn’t necessarily mean perfect or storybook, as you put it. What’s their story?”

“Okay so I love Celina to death which is why I can say she and Jack…dude we are lucky one of them is not six feet under or serving a life sentence for killing each other. See Jack,” she pulled at the cheesey topping as she spoke, “met Celina on Orion. She was a security officer and met Jack. Anyway, about a month in they decided to go for a weekender. Celina’s brother Cesar gave them a trip to the island Fugi not to be mistaken with Fiji which they did. Turns out Fugi is not a tropical island that promised pleasures beyond anything Risa could offer as Cesar told them. It was a mud farm that had aerosolized LSD in the air so the only people there were hippies and drug addicts. Five minutes on the planet though and you were flying as high as a kite and suddenly Fugi was not that bad…until Jack sobered up.” Chewing her piece of pizza she paused talking while she swallowed. “The moral and point to that story is all relationships have bumps and sometimes a massive wreck where the vehicle is smashed into a wall and never able to be repaired but there are always airbags. Jack and Celina are getting married after she drugged him. Their airbags deployed. You are here so your airbags deployed and we are ready to try again. How is the pizza,” Jasmine asked looking at her friend.

Faye chewed, swallowed and nodded. Good.” She was careful to make sure she didn’t give away that she already knew about Jack and Celina’s meeting on Risa. She knew a lot more than she wanted, through no fault of her own- it was all just orders. In all the insanity that was surrounding her work, the captain wanting to maintain that secrecy on that front was something she was all for. She wasn’t naive though. Faye knew it would come out eventually, but hopefully by then it wouldn’t be such a big deal at that point.

Setting the food aside, Calloway sighed and propped her elbows on the worktop, resting her head in her hands. “But Cochrane? I mean, of all the people on this damn ship, why does it have to be him? And trust me, I’ve tried to just push it aside and pretend the feelings don’t exist. But it’s different, Jasmine. Scarily different. I’ve been infatuated before, This doesn’t feel like that at all. But like… what do I do? It’s not like I can just walk up to him and go ‘hey, think you and I should go on a date’,” Faye said, shaking her head.

“Yes you can,” Jasmine said as excitedly as she dropped her pizza. “We can invite you over. Make it informal. Max loves having people over,” Jasmine said already began planning the event. “Relaxed social gatherings are the best for first dates. Takes the pressure off.” Absently she began to think about how people gave advice with no experience and this was no exception. She and Max never dated. They just got married. Jasmine had been on dates but they were all disasters. It was not until she was matched with Max did Jasmine understand why people liked them.

Faye stared at Jasmine like she had grown another head. But then her expression began to shift slightly and she chewed on the inside of her cheek. “Well, normally I’d tell you to get lost, but that’s crazy talk. I don’t really do the social situation, remember. But… I did have a bargain with Max about making pizza should anything go wrong with my project. I kind of lost that, even if it wasn’t my fault. So I still owe him pizza. Technically.” Faye shrugged. “I do know how to cook. Most people wouldn’t know that.” She had this strange moment in her head where she was kneading the dough and Alex offered to help and.. and back to reality. She quickly shoved that mental image way into the back of her head.
