Raye had left the evening briefing with a sour taste in her mouth. There were entities inside the locals that could move about at night while the host body wasn’t aware. That was something she hadn’t encountered or anticipated, and it sent a shiver down her spine.

Finding herself outside of the holodeck, she tapped a few queries on the program menu. When nothing caught her fancy, she simply stepped into the empty, line graphed room and sighed. “Computer, show the newest discovered area of space. I want to feel like I’m standing on an asteroid in the middle of it all.” A moment later, the room seemed to shift as it was suddenly nothing but space. The stars, nebulas and planets of the new area were astounding and, as she asked, she was ‘standing’ on a small asteroid, the surface area on top about twice the size of the bridge. Sitting down, she sighed. Maybe she would get one of the security personnel to check her out on whatever equipment she needed to take walks outside the ship. The idea of sitting, like this, on the hull of the Manhattan and staring at the real stars seemed, at least at this moment, like a comforting idea. “Though perhaps not while at warp,” she laughed and mused out loud. Laughing slightly to herself, she shook her head. “All I need now is a companion and a nice bottle of something strong,” she laughed once more and shook her head. “Oh, well…”

Leaning back on her elbows, she looked like she belonged more on a beach than on an asteroid staring at a blue and purple nebula at the far reaches of explored space. Her mind, watching the stars and area around her, began to debate what the best course of action would be in deciding how to address the diplomatic representation request she was going to have to include in her notes at the end of all this. As well as what she was going to do to come to those choices in the next couple days. She had lots of questions for their hosts for tomorrow. It was going to be a long day. Yet still she sat there, in the middle of space, drifting with her thoughts.

Having noticed the woman during his routine pre evening walk Luke could sense in a way he had learned from years of experience that she was anxious or worried in some form, of course in light of recent events this was abnormal but still he found himself curious and willing to assist her so after a few moments of hesitation he entered the holodeck after her. “This is different” He called out announcing his presence.

  • Lieutenant Luke Wyatt

She didn’t look back, but Raye was certainly aware of someone entering, her head cocking slightly at the sound of the door. At the comment she realized she didn’t recognize the voice. She looked up as the man approached. Her smile was sincere as she motioned to the ‘space’ around them. “Welcome to… well, whatever location this is. Newly discovered area of space. Haven’t been here myself, but apparently worth visiting if this view is any indication.” She nodded to the asteroid she was sitting on. “Pull up a rock. Chief Wyatt, right?” She actually scooted over making room as if the large ‘stone’ wasn’t big enough already. It wasn’t like he would fall off.

Taking in the scene around him he could understand her comments, it wasn’t often he had the opportunity to see space queit from this point of view but he wished he had sooner. “That’s the badger” Luke said smiling as he tool her up on the offer and sat down next to her, respecting her space in which the rock was big enough to do so. “I’m sorry I don’t queit remember your name” He apologised sincerely.

  • Lieutenant Luke Wyatt

Raye smiled. “It’s all right. I’m Raye. Vorraye Anders, actually. I’m here as a diplomatic attache for the Federation. It doesn’t surprise me you don’t know me. I check on board with the previous Security Chief, and I’ve been remiss in checking in with you since you took over.” She smiled and dipped her head in a polite apology. “I should remedy that. I mean, if there is anything in particular you need to know about my orders or clearances, please let me know. I’m here a the whim of the Powers That Be but at the mercy of the Captain.” She laughed.

“So I come here to relax. I like seeing the new places that are discovered. And, as you can see, from a view you can’t get on a ship.” She bit her lip and looked away from him with a short laugh. “Sorry, I tend to ramble.”

Luke chuckled, “It ok, it’s refreshing really at time I feel like I am just a whim to and very much at the mercy of our Captain, having someone who doesn’t mind talking about things is something I need to hear” In truth, he had been debating his position on the ship and whether he should put in for an early transfer, so far he had been met with superstition, disappointment and kept in the dark about things which he hated. Not because he felt obligated to know or nosey but because he couldn’t do his job properly.

He realised they had been silent for some time and turned back to Raye, “There was a lot of things I didn’t get told so ramble away, tell me about yourself Raye.”

  • Lt Luke Waytt, CoS

Raye smiled. “Perhaps I should ask you that. I’m sorry you feel left out. As Security, it strikes me you should know enough to feel settled and secure in your job.” She smiled and glanced back at the stars. “As for me, not much to tell. Betazoid on my father’s side,” she waved her hand absently, “but no worries. I can’t read minds. I can read emotions and usually tell when someone’s lieing, though. I’ve been a diplomat or on that side for so long, I don’t know much of anything else. Right now I’m concerned about the current mission. If these folks have second entities living within them, ones that are autonomous when the main host sleeps, shouldn’t we also be negotiating with them? Or are they merely automated and do whatever they are always doing and have to way or care of what their hosts choose? And if we place an embassy and Representative here, what kinds of additional security are we going to have to implement to be sure the entities aren’t a bother, or a risk, to those we place here?” She looked back at the stars. “So here I sit, numbing my mind on newly discovered constellations and wondering how I will exhaust my mind enough to sleep.” She smiled and shrugged slightly.

Glancing back at him, she smiled a bit softer. “Your turn. What has you wandering and wondering? Tell me about yourself, Security Chief Wyatt.” It was nice to actually sit and talk with someone. It had been a long time, or so it seemed.
