Cochrane walked into the Ready Room and collapsed into his chair. It wasn’t even ten in the morning and it had already been a long day. He waited for Wyatt to arrive and contemplated the need for whiskey, but waited to see the CoS’s demeanor before he finalized the thought.

Cochrane, CO

Having given the Captain a head start and allowing himself time to speak to Faye alone, something which as usual didn’t put him at ease. Nonetheless despite things Luke found himself pressing the door chime of he ready room. The Captain had already asked him to come but he wanted to be respectful of the mans work environment, respectful and professional of course, the last thing he needed to be doing was walking into the Captain’s ready room without knocking first.

“Come in.” came a tense voice and the door slid open.

He waited a moment before deciding to enter, he hoped he was about o be given some more answers more prepared for some more half-truths. Faye’s mental health was at risk, or at least in his non-medical qualified mind was at risk and if something was being played out he hoped it would end soon. “Captain” He greeted with a polite stern nod.

  • Wyatt, CoS

Cochrane looked at Wyatt and said simply “Have a seat.” and he pressed the desk interface and locked the door behind the Security Chief.

Wyatt nodded once and moved to the seat indicated, pulling it back he slowly settled into it and looked to the Captain who he noticed had locked the door. Perhaps finally he was about to get some answers, or another telling off.

Once Wyatt had settled, Cochrane said “What we are about to discuss does not leave this room. It does not get recorded, reported, discussed, or examined outside these walls. Understood?”

Cochrane, CO

His heartbeat rose slightly usually when someone said that a conversation was off the recorded it was because it was against regulation but Luke was slowly learning that some things on this ship had to be against regulation and so he nodded before saying “Of course sir.” He waited impatiently and cautiously.

  • Lt Luke Wyatt

Cochrane stared at Wyatt for a long minute, seemingly appraising him. Finally coming to some kind of internal decision, Cochrane spoke.

“Calloway is not guilty of anything. Not espionage, not evading arrest… not even assault ona superior officer. She stunned us under my orders, in order to sell her escape and subsequent capture. Follow me so far?”

Cochrane, CO

The security chief nodded slowly, “I’m following. I dont know why but I am sure the reason is about to be explained.” Silently Luke was relieved since her detention Luke had grown somewhat fond of Faye, his original professional interest had turned to personal so to hear she was under orders was something that came as a pleasant bout fo news for him.

  • Lt Luke Wyatt, CoS

Cochrane said “Well… partially. There is a lot more going on than I can tell you. But once we get through this next day or two, maybe Calloway will see fit to let you know.” and he sat forward slightly and said “Now then… there is sufficient evidence, circumstantial as it may be, to convince me that there is a hostile organization at work within Federation Intelligence. Calloway has been targeted by them. We… Calloway, the XO, myself, and Commander Calloway… believe Faye’s ‘handler’ may be compromised. He is coming here under the auspices of getting Faye out of the situation she is in currently. A situation devised by her, I might add. When he arrives, he will talk with her alone after you and I explain the situation. Once he is alone with her… we have to monitor him and record everything. We also have to be in a position to assist Faye if that becomes necessary. I’m sure the man will take precautions against any kind of surveillance. I may have a work around for that. But what I need from you is a plan on how we are going to deal with Mr. Blue.”

Cochrane, CO

Sitting back in his chair Luke finally saw the larger picture, even if he didn’t know everything he at least now knew why things were happening. “I must admit I didn’t expect to be hearing this sort of information.” He sat forward his mind on overdrive, everything now made sense and suddenly he found he had much admiration for Faye and having been kept in the dark so long felt he owed her a huge apology. “It seems that Faye’s safety isn’t at risk. If Mr. Blue is coming to help her then she would only be at risk if he was to find out what we were planning, I would recommend allowing the events to unfold. Moving to quickly could scuttle our chances of uncovering the truth any conventional surveillance systems would be to easily disrupted with enough know-how.”

This was certainly a challenge, perhaps even more than apprehending Faye, “We would have to approach him in a time he feels comfortable, but before I divulge what exactly do you mean by ‘handling’“

  • Lt Luke Wyatt

Cochrane shook his head and said “Except Faye suspects that the Blue that is arriving may not be the real Blue. She will determine that. If he is, no worries. Faye trust him. If he isn’t… the Faye alone with him very much puts her in jeopardy. Now… as to your concerns for surveillance…” and he reached in his desk and produced a small metal rectangle with a small clear window on the front. Three black buttons on the side were marked with a “<”, “●”, “>” respectively; and a red one marked with “□” were on one side.

Luke examined the small box as he got it out, it looked similar to a much smaller and basic tricorder from Starfleet earlier years, he wondered how the Captain hsf come about the antique.

“This is old Earth tech. And by old, I mean mid to late twentieth century. Its called a ‘micro-cassette recorder’.” and he spent a couple of minutes showing Wyatt how it worked. Once he was familiar, Cochrane said “This should record everything said in her cell. And it won’t activate any sensors he may use… or sensor scramblers. Thoughts?”

Cochrane, CO

Having listened with great curiosity he had a decent enough understanding of how the recording device worked and it almost every way it was flawless. The lack of technology would certainly fly below any conventional scanner but there was one flaw. “My biggest concern is that we won’t know what’s happening live, this is great for later when we’re trying to convict someone but worst case scenario if this isn’t the real Mr Blue and Faye is in jeopardy we won’t know, unless we somehow enable her to request for help” He began to consider his own question and then also added “Is Faye in danger of harm?”

  • Lt Luke Wyatt

“The possibility is there, yes. Thats why I decided now was the time for you to be read in. I have a few ideas how we can keep her safe. But I want to hear what ideas you have. Maybe a multilevel approach would be best.”

Cochrane, CO

“Well I’d love to have live audio and video feeds but from what you’ve told me any attempt could jeopardise her further, would it be likely that the false Mr Blue would want to take custody of Faye and move her? Whilst on this ship it would be unwise for an attempt on her life or such actions. Either way we can’t afford to let her off the ship under any circumstances.” He thought for a moment carefully.

“If Mr blue is coming via transporter we should cross refrence his biometrics with previous medical documents, I trust Fayes ability to identify an imposter but if we can secure medical proof we could simply detain him sooner rather than later” Luke was spit balling and would need more time to think, the situation itself was not ideal, he’d have to scold Faye later for putting herself in such careless danger, and then himself for caring so much for which he still didn’t know why he did.

  • Lieutenant Luke Wyatt

Cochrane shook his head. “Not likely we’d be given access to an Intel director’s medical file. Besides, if he is an imposter… which is still just conjecture at this point… he has been able to fool Star Fleet Intelligence in person. So its highly he would make such a slip up.”

Cochrane, CO

The situation was certainly far from ideal and left Luke somewhat puzzled, “Has Faye come up with any ideas other than getting herself caught that is? Its difficult because any action could simply make matters worst and I wouldn’t want to put Faye or anyone else in danger. If what we suspect is not true and it is indeed the real Mr Blue what are we likely to see happen?”

  • Lt Luke Wyatt

“If that’s the case, this becomes much easier. We simply inform him of the ruse, give jim our established evidence and discuss next steps. But the more and more we delve into this mess, the less likely I see that as being possible.”

Cochrane, CO

“Its unfortunate that even in this day and age we have people willing to go against the values of Starfleet, if I think of anything more I’ll be sure to let you know as soon as possible.” Luke leaned back in his chair, “I’ll have the brig and interview rooms prepared. I’ll also reccomdend that Mr Blue be accompanied when he interviews Faye, as per protocol if he denies the request it could be an early sign that we are indeed dealing with an imposter or worst someone who ha turned.”

  • LtCmdr Raauhl, XO

Cochrane chuckled. “He’s Intel. All he has to say is ‘Classified’ and you and I are out. So we need a plan. How do we keep him from harming Faye when he is alone with her… not if. We should assume that will be his plan. Or try and get her off the ship without us knowing.” and a thought popped into his head and he grinned. “Well… that is easy enough to handle. As soon as he is on board, we will jump to warp. That might give him pause enough to give us a chance.”

Cochrane, CO

“Warp is a good idea, we could also be running security simulations so we can heighten our security compliments without it looking to suspicious. If he asks were running simulations.” Luke scratched his head trying best to think about how to protect Faye. “Could we conceal a weapon and tracker on Faye? Maybe not even an electronic tracker perhaps an element or material which can be detected by our senors and unique enough we can track it even across sunlight there isn’t really an easy way to do this.”

  • Lt Luke Wyatt

“Now that is a solid idea. Get with the CSO. Have her give you a radioactive tracker. As far as a weapon… not a bad idea, either. Maybe a blade made out of transparent aluminum? She could hide that pretty easily. And it would give her some small defense if worse comes to worse.” He tapped a few times into the desk interface. “Sneak her the blade and tracker once you have them. Make it quick, though. Blue will be here in an hour.”

Cochrane, CO

Luke allowed himself a small smile happy with his own suggestion, “I’ll see to it right away. I assume we need to keep information to a minimum so ill try and figure a story but I’ll have everything ready by the new of the hour. I hope this works” He nodded, waiting for the captain to dismiss him. He’d have to act fast to enact and enable their plan, for the safety of Faye he hoped it work.
