The slight buzz of the forcefield returned and Faye shifted her hand behind her back casually in case the cameras went on again. She would tuck the device into her pillow in a moment, but right now she was staring at his retreating form. She almost tossed back something like ‘or maybe I’ll be dead’, but something in their banter had shifted and she wasn’t sure what it was. With Early it had been simple at first: they were enemies who respected each other’s abilities and pure loathing of the other. But Wyatt? She knew his file, and while she was pretty sure he still didn’t know all the things about her basic gossip would have revealed, she hadn’t quite figured him out. He was a puzzle, but she wasn’t sure trying to figure him out wasn’t akin to sticking her head into a blender. Probably just as enjoyable. “I’m a like a cat with nine lives Wyatt. I have an annoying habit of surviving. Just ask the Romulans. And the Cardassians.” And maybe that was her own form of hope at the moment.

He couldn’t help the smile that tugged at his lips, he had no doubt that she’d pull this off. He imagined that whenever her or even his digits were up they’d go down in a blaze of glory. “Good luck Faye” There wasn’t anythint else to say, with just 10 minutes until Blue was due to arrive it was all but a waiting game now. He was gonna have to pour himself a few drinks after this day was done.

It had always been a strange thing to feel comforted by the presence of a weapon on her person, and in this this moment that was no less true. With the hairpin safely secured, it felt like the odds just tipped ever so slightly back towards her. But Faye was a realist tending towards pessimism. It had kept her alive most of her life even when it had been detrimental in others areas of her life. In this moment though, Faye could concede that despite her not really believing in it, she could do with a bit of luck. “I’m probably going to need it,” she said softly. Despite the well crafted guard she had resurrected, she let it down just long enough for him to see that she was nervous and worried. That she was more scared then she’d ever actually admit aloud in a moment like this.
