Faye shrugged. “No life threatening emergencies, so we’re off to a good start. Though I’m not sure I will ever complain when people are in need of my particular brand of skills. But too often under such pressure and I might worry about my heart. I’ve heard too much stress is bad for a person,” she said nonchalantly. She wasn’t keyed up the way she had been yesterday but certainly Faye was riding some sort of emotional high. A part of her liked the game to see just how far they could push her abilities, though she was hoping to never, ever test the one scenario out that she was here to prevent.

Shon nodded to agree with Faye. “Luckily it seems as if my scrapes were nothing a dermal regenerator couldn’t fix… but we all had a large enough dose of adrenaline to last us a few months, that’s for sure.” He laughed half-heartedly. “So, uh, well hey, at least all that was an excuse for some comfort food, right? Do you two want anything? I’m craving lemon-squares.” Shon was still a bit on-edge, but he was trying to be upbeat despite it all.

Kiama nodded here and there while listening closely to both of them. “Well, it is lunch time and comfort food sounds very good,” she replied with a warm smile. “Shall I give you hand?” she continued cheerfully, though there was a hint of concern in her eyes as she sensed that her friend was clearly still on-edge. At the same time the positive emotions she was sensing from Faye definitely added to her own upbeat mood.

“I want hasperat, despite knowing full well that whatever the replicator spits out will be a terrible facsimile of the real deal. When you had a Bajoran teach you to make it properly, it’s hard to go accept anything less, but… under the circumstances, I think I can compromise.” Though her tone was airy, Faye was quite serious. She never joked about hasperat.

“Sure!” Shon called over his shoulder both as a response to Kiama and Faye. He scurried to the replicator and ordered a double order of the dessert for himself and then requested the hasperat for Faye. He looked back to Kiama with a tight-lipped smile. “What’re you in the mood for?”

“Chicken noodle soup with a biscuit and chocolate ice cream with whipped cream, warm chocolate sauce and a Maraschino cherry on top,” Kiama answered without hesitation. “Oh, and a glass of blueberry lemonade. I feel very much like comfort food today,” she added with a soft chuckle. Once her order had materialised, she looked over her shoulder and asked Faye, “Would you like something to drink as well?”

Calloway pondered for a moment. “Hot coffee for me. Black.” Sometimes hot drinks could be weird with spicy food, but Faye always found that it intensified the heat and she was always up for that. Besides, ever since her imprisonment and the severe malnourishment that went along with it, her taste buds had taken their sweet time returning, so she needed stronger tastes or it was simply bland.

Shon smiled lightly in amusement. “I have to admit, that seems like a meal with a rather varied taste pallet you’ve ordered, Kiama. Bolians don’t shy away from mixing flavors, but I suppose I assumed that betazoids had taste buds more akin to humans.” Shon picked up the platter of fingerfood deserts he had ordered and made his way back to their table, putting his order in the middle with the intention to share. He also set down the hasperat Faye had ordered in front of her as before he sat down with an ‘umph’.

With everything she had ordered for herself and the coffee for Faye on the tray, Kiama made her way back to their table. After handing the coffee to Fay, she settled back down on her chair and gave a small shrug. “We do,” she grinned, “And I’m not gong to eat the ice cream at the same time as the soup. But it’s a perfect dessert and I like a slightly sweet drink with hearty and or savoury food.” She then looked from Shon to Faye and said, “Enjoy your lunch!” Breaking of a small piece of the biscuit, she popped it into her mouth before starting on the soup.

Shon had barely eaten since the incident the day before. Ordering the lemon squares had largely been a symbolic gesture. But now, watching Kiama dig in… well, his empty stomach started to catch up with him. Shon rose from his seat and returned a moment later with a large bowl of clam chowder (his personal favorite).

“Soup seemed like a good idea,” he said as he sat back down. He took a bite and chewed it slowly before swallowing. Then, having lost his patience for manners, he began scooping the thick liquid into his mouth by the spoonful, obviously attempting to sate his starvation.
