Cochrane nodded once and said “Understood. Thank you, doctor. If you will excuse us, the Commander and I will help the Lieutenant to her quarters.” and he waited until they had left. Looking at Faye, he said “You want to sit for a minute?” and he got up and went to the replicator and came back with a glass of water and handed it to her.

Faye had managed to blink her eyes open at this point, though even her eye lids felt tired. “Want to? No…” she said softly as she tried to sit up.

But Shara still had Faye’s hand in hers and her thumb was still in an absentmindedly tracing a slow circle on Faye’s palm. Faye’s movement though disrupted whatever space her mind was in and Shara actually startled. But she nonchalantly recovered and pulled back, helping Faye to a sitting position.

Focusing intently to steady her hand Faye took the glass from Cochrane. The cool water slipped down her throat and felt rather incredible at the moment. It allowed her to at least parch her dry throat enough to be able to speak a bit more easily. Handing the water back to Cochrane with a grateful nod, Faye rolled her shoulders. “Well, apparently that’s what happens after too long of being able to block it. Because we all weren’t having enough fun right now,” she said deadpanned.

“Has it ever been that bad before?” Shara asked.

Faye shook her head. “No. At first it could be similar, but after I was recovering and stronger it was more just a mild annoyance that would make me pause for a minute.”

Cochrane said “Lets get you off the floor.” and he knelt beside her opposite Shara and put a hand under her arm. “Commander, if you please.”

Shara nodded and helped Cochrane lift Faye to her feet. Given that she was still supposed to be keeping a low profile for the time being, Faye was at least grateful she hadn’t been dragged out of here on a stretcher. Her feet touched the deck and Faye tried to hold her own weight which she was surprisingly able to do, but only because she had help. Normally, Faye would have been been beyond embarrassed by the whole episode, but something was pricking on the forefront of her mind.

“Sooooo… let’s get out of here and off the bridge asap, and then we can take a very slow walk. And if we do this right, we might have something interesting to talk about,” Faye said, feeling her mind returning to her more clearly. With the sudden realization, she wanted to get on with it before the inevitable headache began.

Cochrane directed her to the chair and said “Let’s have you take a seat for a second. Tongues are wagging plenty already… carrying you out of here would only send the rumor mill into overdrive. Besides, I don’t want people thinking I got even for the phaser. ” and he chuckled slightly.

“You sure about that?” she said with a weary smirk as they guided her to the chair she had collapsed out of.

Making sure she was seated, he handed her the glass and then took his seat. “You okay?” he asked informally, concern on his face.

Faye held a finger up and then took a healthy gulp of the water. And then another. When she set the glass down, and nodded slowly. “Believe it or not. Head hurts a bit, but that’s normal,” she replied. “It feels a bit different than before though. It’s hard to explain.”

Meanwhile, Shara took her seat again and listed, her attention focused not just on Faye but how she was interacting with Cochrane.

Cochrane said “Can you tell me anything about what happened… do you remember anything?” His voice wasn’t insistent… but it was probing.
