Shara gave a crisp nod, glad they were all on the same page.

Slipping out into the corridor, she waited for Rollo to exit and fell in step to walk with her. “So… how do you want to handle this?” she asked, thinking a check-in rotation would be good, but not wanting to overstep, even if it was her daughter.

“If we were at a medical facility, it would be easy. There would be round the clock eyes on her, but I think she’s been through enough of being under a microscope the last few days.” They continued to walk while Rollo thought about it. “Your situation with Faye is very unique. I’m sure she has feelings of abandonment for the years you weren’t around, but you said you’ve touched on that already?” Blue-grey eyes looked over at the Cmdr.

Shara nodded slowly. “It’s complicated, but I disappeared from her life when she was thirteen because I was on loan to another Maquis cell. Next thing we know, we’re in the Delta Quadrant and forced to be a part of a Starfleet crew,” she said with a sharp exhale. “Long story somewhat short, after we got back to the Alpha Quadrant, I was recruited to Intelligence. I didn’t know Faye had survived, and I was doing covert work, so I essentially disappeared again for many years. I learned she was alive later but I wasn’t able to connect with her just yet and then she shows up at the Romulan facility I was undercover at as a prisoner and it took me nine whole months to find a way to get her out of there. After I effected my own return to Federation space I’ve been doing my own recovery from PTSD, while slowly picking away at this current investigation I’ve been doing. Faye knew about the Voyager but I think my not being in a healthy mental place to be there for her after she escaped is harder for her to take. As it often is with Faye it’s a battle of her mind versus emotions.”

“I don’t want her to feel like we’re all pouncing on her because we’re afraid she’s going to screw up or lose it, but it is important to find ways to see her frequently over the next few days.”

Shara definitely agreed and so she nodded again.

“I told you I wouldn’t meet with her until tomorrow in the hopes that she’s getting some rest, but I would like your input here. What do you think she would respond the best to—one on one time with me, or time with the two of you where I’m there as a sounding board?”

—Rollo, CNS

That was a tricky question since it required Shara to pull out what she wanted from what Faye needed most right now, even if there was likely to be overlap. “I… think that she should see you first tomorrow, and then we can do a joint session with you later, even if it’s not the same day. But… if anything changes and you think I need to be there, please do call me. Day or night.” Faye just needed to make it through until tomorrow morning, and while Shara was anxious about that, she had to also admit that Faye had grown a lot since her days on the Curie and she had to trust she could navigate some of this on her own. For the rest, they would all be here for Faye, no matter what.
