Leroy stabbed more of the cheesecake nonchalantly, not even a little put out. “If I was inclined, it should be noted that you’ve not exactly caught me at my best. I’m normally quite the catch,” he said with a wink.

Setting the cheesecake aside, Strickland adopted a more serious demeanour. “Do we have an ETA on their arrival?” No one had said when Faye would be arriving, just that arrangements would be made for a reunion.

~Leroy Strickland, S.I.

Micah shrugged and said “I do, you don’t. You have some more body mass to put on and a clearance from the doc before I make the call.” and he looked at Strickland with a gaze that was neither hostile nor aggressive… but also allowed no doubt that Pikelsimer was in charge of when things happened. “When you are cleared, I’ll make the arrangements. Until then… you are at my mercy.” and he chuckled.

It was hard, and Pikelsimer undoubtedly knew that. Leroy being held captive as long as he had meant that Faye had been working with the imposter for a very long time. Not only did it make him burn with rage, but he already knew a million different ways this would be bad for Faye in the long run. What people didn’t understand about them and their working relationship and subsequent friendship was that Leroy had researched her disorder thoroughly and then consulted with experts to understand how best to interact with her. And even then it had taken a bit for them to see eye to eye. He worried about her trust issues only being exacerbated by all these events at the bare minimum.

The door opened and the doctor appeared. He moved into the room and looked at the scanner and then at Strickland. “And how is my favorite patient today?” He cast a look at Pikelsimer filled with more than a little animosity and then turned fully to put his back to Pikelsimer and looked at Leroy and smiled. Micah sat up a bit so Leroy could see his face past the doctor and mouthed I think he really likes me! and then stifled a laugh into silence.

The conflict between the doctor and Pikelsimer was well known and often discussed by the nurses and aides on the ward. Apparently the doctor, the Assistant Chief Medical Officer for the station, had decided to move Strickland from the current ward he was on to a more generalized one… and didn’t tell Micah. The result of that… ‘miscommunication’… had led to the doctor being picked up by his shirt collar and pinned to a station bulkhead in full view of the staff. It also led to Leroy being brought back to his current room and a noticeable uptick in the frequency with which the doctor visited. As one nurse put it within earshot of Leroy: “So Micah has his feet two feet off the floor and he looks at the Commander and says ‘You pull some s&^% like that again, I’ll have your license hanging on my wall next to your tanned hide! Now if you don’t want to run the risk of pissing me off even more, I suggest you make that man your A-Number-One priority so he and I can get off this station and away from your stench!’” and then almost fell over laughing. Apparently the Commander was an excellent physician, but had an ego that barely fit on the massive station.

Strickland grinned before turning his attention to the doctor. “Not bad today. I understand we’re upping the physio length today?” He reached over grabbed the cheesecake, “and I have a good head start on the higher caloric intake.”

~Leroy Strickland, S.I.

The doctor looked at the cheesecake and the glared over his shoulder at Pikelsimer. Pikelsimer just smiled really wide and wholly sarcastically. Turning back, the doctor said “Well… as long as you keep it down I don’t see why one small slice will be an issue. But make sure you don’t shock your system.” Pikelsimer snorted and shook his head, but didnt say anything. The doctor’s face reddened slightly and his jaw clenched, but he simply said to Leroy “Yes. Today we are going to try for forty minutes, up from the thirty. Think you are ready?”

“Hey, I was born ready,” he said with a charming smile. “Just ask my mother.” It was a small sore point with him that they also hadn’t been allowed to come visit, but at the same time he understood. But he had been able to send a small note to his mother and sister (vetted for confidentiality purposes, of course) and for now it would have to do.

“What are you up to today, because hanging out here with me?” Strickland asked Micah.

Micah smiled at Leroy and then looked at the doctor. ‘Doc, if’n ya don’t mind making yerself scarce…” The man visibly seemed put off by being ‘dismissed’, but even he knew when to fight and when to not. He left the room and shut it behind him.

Micah looked at Leroy and leaned forward in his chair, putting his elbows on his knees and holding his hands clasped in front of him. “So we are gonna do a good news bad news thing now. You ready? If so, you tell me which you want first.”
