Kaia scratched her cheek as she stood in front of the Arboretum. After all the crazy stuff that had happened last week, she was pretty confused about Faye’s… Everything. She hoped the officer was okay. Which was why she was here at the Arboretum with a plate covered in cookies. Some of them were slightly burnt. She’d baked them herself in the Manhattan’s Kitchen, having convinced Chef to let her do so by fixing some of their panels.She stepped in. “Uh… Faye? You in here?”

“Over by the greenhouse,” Calloway called out, her voice sounding distant. Off in the raised beds to left, Faye was at her plot close to the greenhouse and main path. She was crouched at the edge, planting some seedlings she had grown on into slightly larger pots and were now ready to transplant. She was wearing one of a rotation of outfits she wore while gardening: grey cargo pants and a black t-shirt that said: I garden so I don’t choke people | Save a Life |Send Mulch and had leaves around the text. Her hair was pulled back in her usual tidy french braid.
Catching movement in front of her, Faye looked up. “Hey,” she said with a light smile as she pulled aside some dirt with a trowel and then gently coaxed the plant out of its pot by inverting it between her bare fingers and squeezing the sides of the pot a little to loosen it away from the root ball.

Kaia scampered over to Faye and wrapped her arms around Faye, giving her a hug. “Are you okay?” She asked, pulling away to look the other woman in the eyes. Despite being in her relative thirties, Kaia (and other Raka as well, although Faye might not know that) retained an almost childlike expressiveness.
“I heard some weird stuff on the intercoms a few days ago. You were in the brig, then you were being commended for saving the ship??” She was confused, and Faye could probably tell she was absolutely brimming with questions.
