Pushing herself off the wall, Calloway gazed at her friend and mentor intently. “Naturally,” she said spreading her hands to the side a bit.

Faye gazed down the corridor before looking back at Alex and for once her entire demeanour was calm and certain. “If there’s one thing we both have learned about me recently it’s that I have stories that have been secrets. And those secrets while intended to keep me safe, to… help me move on, have done damage.” She pointed to the brig door. “I can’t let this be another dark story I keep in the shadows that later threatens to take me down. If I’m going to move forward, if I want to have any shot of learning to one day be a good captain, I need to face this. Face him. All I’m asking if to sit there for a few minutes in front of him. Forcefield up. You can be there along with the brig detail. I probably won’t even say anything. But this is something I have to do.”

Cochrane looked at her intently for a long time before speaking. “Ok. But I want you to remember something… sometimes doing what you feel you have to do for you… isn’t the best thing to do for those around you.” and he tapped the door controls and the brig doors unlocked and slid open.

Faye sighed. “Oh trust me, that has been made abundantly clear lately,” she said darkly. “This is not a selfish request. This will be better for everyone else too in the long one.. I promise. ” Faye didn’t make promises often but she could make this one.

Cochrane was the first to enter. He looked at the two Security officers and said “Post by the door, please. And you may contact Lieutenant Wyatt and let him know that we are here; but he isn’t required to be. This is an internal matter.” and he looked at Faye and then gestured to the cell holding Fake Blue.

Following Alex in, Faye moved over to the security station and grabbed the stool. Wordlessly, she moved it in front of the brig cell, about a metre from the forcefield. Fixing her stormy grey-green eyes on the man whose appearance was so like a man who was akin to a brother, Calloway simply took him in. What she was looking for as she stdied him was anyone’s guess.

The man known as Fake Blue lay on the thin mattress on the bunk. His face was now covered in a beard, as he wasn’t allowed to shave. His eyes looked at Faye, and he sighed and yawned… then went back to staring at the ceiling.

Blue (Not)

She had tried to explain to Luke how her mind worked and she was confident at least some of her explanation translated the way it was intended. That same multi-level operations was in effect here and much like usual it was a quiet affair. Still, there was no hurry. And her calmness was not a feint. She was at ease for the first time in probably a lifetime.

After about ten minutes of silence, Faye stood up and smiled at the man. “Do you have family?”

The man didn’t move, or even seem to hear her. He just laid still, his eyes fixed on the ceiling.

Fake Blue

Her chest rose and fell with her even deep breath. Calmness. Stillness even. She didn’t require an answer. It was simply a whim. After another minute, Faye nodded to herself. “Thank you,” she said emphatically. “You’ve helped me more than you could possibly realize. And in that way you really are like the man I call Blue. I wish you well.”

And with that, Faye stepped around the stool and left the brig, flickering her gaze to Alex as she past him.

Alex watched her go and stood still for a moment. Then he turned and walked over to the forcefield.

“I’m Captain Cochrane. Commanding Officer of this vessel. It is my duty to inform you that you will be transferred soon.” and he gave the man a half-smile. “And I would be very careful of the man in whose custody you will be. He is not known for his… understanding.” and Alex turned and left the brig.

Faye was waiting for him in the corridor, her expression inquisitive. She normally would just leap right into whatever she had sitting in her head, but this time she just waited to see what his reaction was.

Cochrane came through and exhaled slowly and then leaned against the far bulkhead and folded his arms on his chest. “Well? Get what you needed?” he asked.
