A few hours had passed since his not so productive conversation with Cochrane but despite his best efforts hitting several hundred pucks at an empty hocket net Luke needed something or somewhere to cool down. He didn’t know how or even why he gravitated towards the Counselling suits but he knew that if anyone was able to help him it would be someone who was trained in doing just that. He had changed into his uniform, there was no relaxing after the hour he just had and after this, he planned on going to do some extra work, give on of the ensigns the night off, hell maybe all of them. He hesitated outside the door but when someone left, an engineer he was exposed and decided since he had already been seen he might as well head inside. He looked around to see if anyone was free when he saw the all to familiar white hair of Counsellor Rollo. “Excuse me counsellor” He called out trying to get her attention.

  • Luke Wyatt

Rollo had just accompanied NEProctor out of her office and was about to check with Yeoman Brooks to see if her next appt was going to show up, when someone called her. Turning, she saw Lt Wyatt, looking agitated. Brooks said something to her softly, Zef heard and nodded, then moved over to Luke.

“I wasn’t expecting to see you. What can I do for you?”

—Rollo, CNS

“Sorry, I was just hoping to see if you had a minute It was either this or find myself at the bottom of a bottle and honestly I dont want to be that person.” Luke admitted looking between Zef and the other woman. “I can wait, or I can come back later but If I dont try and figure this out Im going to go crazy or worst hurt someone.” He wasn’t a violent type but Cochran had cause one of humans primal natures out of him, violence, anger and a little bit of hate. Despite what Cochran told him or thought those were not him.

  • Luke Wyatt

It was a cry for help and Zef couldn’t ignore it or put it off. The reality was that it might not turn out to be as serious as Wyatt let on, but with an admission that he might hurt himself or someone else, she had to investigate immediately. “Alright, let’s go into my office and sort this out.” She turned and held a hand out in the direction he should go and then told Brooks. “Reschedule my appts for the next two hours. This might take a while.”

—Rollo, CNS

A pang of guilt stung him but Luke was however grateful, he needed to speak to someone whilst his emotions were still raw and he knew that what he said was the harsh reality of it, he followed Rollo smiling somewhat at Brooks as they disappeared towards what was either her office or a counselling suite. He stood awkwardly waiting for his next instructions.

  • Lt Luke Wyatt

Rollo led him into her office and closed the door behind them. Luke would see a choice of seating options. There were a couple of chairs on the visiting side of her desk and also a seating area. “Sit wherever you like. Would you like something to drink?” She didn’t offer everyone a refreshment, but he appeared in emotional distress and just dealing with ‘normal’ things like a glass of tea or cup of coffee, might make him a little more comfortable.

While he made his choices, she walked to the small replicator and ordered a glass of iced coconut water for herself.

—Rollo, CNS

“No thankyou I’m good” He replied not really feeling the want nor need for any refreshments of the solid or liquid variety. Luke scanned the room and chose a random seat, there wasn’t any reason behind the one he chose, just that it was closest.

  • Lt Luke Wyatt

She returned, drink in hand and took a seat opposite him. “Alright then. Why are you feeling on the edge? What’s happened to put you in such a state?”

—Rollo, CNS

Luke moved uncomfortably in his seat until he calmed himself and he remembered that he had come to her. “I think I’m making some terrible decision, and I feel powerless, I feel people are making my choices for me and I’m going little crazy. I just left the Captain and I was about to go see Lietenant Calloway but I don’t want to do anything stupid. Which usually happens.” He avoided making eye contact with Zef.

  • Lieutenant Luke Wyatt

Zef’s brows furrowed a bit. “Why would it be stupid to go and see the Lt?” She needed some background with details.

—Rollo, CNS

He shrugged and then realised he was acting childish, “I haven’t been doing such a good job of being a friend. I have feelings for her and well that’s something Im not sure is such a good idea given her current state of mind.” He explained the words not entirely his own but the truth to some degree. “I just dont know what to do, I’m torn between trying to make something of it or to leave entirely.”

  • Lt Luke Wyatt

Zef was sure there was more going on than Wyatt was admitting to. He and Faye had been seeing each other, hadn’t they? Isn’t that what Faye told her? She took a drink from the cup on the table near her and settle back into the chair. “I think there are more to these feelings for Lt Calloway than you’re admitting to. Remember, I’m the counselor for the entire ship. That means I receive information from other sources. Is there more you’d like to tell me?”

—Rollo, CNS

Luke wondered what she meant then realised, ‘ of course she’s been speaking to Faye as well, dummy’ “Oh well, what do you want me to say that I like Faye more than I should but everyone is telling me that its a terrible idea, even Faye herself what’s the point in trying. I tried being a friend but it just got complicated… In a good way but then it just went all wrong and I’m not sure what to do anymore.”

  • Lt Luke Wyatt, CoS

“You are being very vague about the situation. I’m happy to just listen to what you have to say, but if you want any real input or help, you’ll have to start giving me specifics.” Zef’s voice was kind and non judgmental, but to advise him properly, it was necessary to know how serious the relationship between Luke and Faye had gotten, what she’d said when she called it off and who else was against them being together.

Luke huffed, it was clear he was still extremely defensive about the situation, especially having just come from a volatile conversation with Cochrane.

“From my interactions with the crew, I don’t think anyone would be against you and Faye spending time together just for the sake of being arbitrary. Can you tell me who is telling you to leave her alone and what their reasons are?”

—Rollo, CNS

“That one’s easy, its the Captain. He thinks its dangerous and that I am being selfish, but if he only knew half of it.” He sighed shifting uncomfortably in his seated position, “Well you seem far more informed, but Me and Faye are not exactly what I’d call typically compatible and yet we have found some sort of peace with one another, one thing led to another and well things became intimate, but the Captain and even Faye sometimes object to it. Faye wants to keep it casual, but I’m not sure I can, she has a way about her, she’s different and has her own set of problems, but together I feel like we can overcome them–not because I’m some knight in shining armor, but because I feel like we bring out the best in each other. I just came from what I hoped to be a normal conversation with the Captain, but ended up with me calling him a hypocrite and claiming he was the one interested in Faye. I don’t know if there’s any truth in it, but it always leads back to Faye.

I don’t want to break up with her, hell we’re not even together. maybe that’s the problem. Everyone is always trying to protect her and I feel she has no self-confidence, yet when she’s with me she radiates it. Maybe we’re bad for each other, but if there’s any chance shouldn’t we try?”

  • Lt Luke Wyatt

Zef listened to Luke, to his choice of words and tone of voice. It was clear he was very upset about the situation. It was also obvious that Alex was the one he had the biggest problem with. “Lt, first of all, I don’t believe Captain Cochran has any questionable interest in Lt Calloway. She is part of his crew, and therefore he is concerned about her well being. Secondly, if the Lt wants to keep your relationship casual, that’s her decision. If you don’t want to encourage the idea, I suggest you step back in your intimate dealings with her.”

She paused to sip at the cooling coffee. “It sounds as if you believe Calloway is receiving special treatment and consideration from others. Does the idea bother you because you feel you should be receiving the same care, or is it that you just resent everyone doing it? If its the second choice, why do you feel that way?”

Everyone got upset when things weren’t going their way, but most people handled it within themselves. Luke wasn’t having much success with it. Zef also noticed that he was very focused on himself—it didn’t appear to matter what Faye wanted. He wanted a relationship with her, and in his mind, that should be all the universe needed to make it happen.

—Rollo, CNS

He shook his head, “No nothing like that I don’t think it’s more that I am simply told over and over were no good for each other and very little evidence to the fact. I’m not some young fool falling in love but to be utterly denied the opportunity and be reminded by the fact by everyone else in her life.” Luke sighed, “I just don’t know what to think.”

  • Lt Luke Wyatt, CoS

Elbow propped on the arm of her chair, Zef tapped her lips with a finger as she went over what he’d told her. “If I’m not mistaken, you’ve mentioned the Captain and Lt Calloway by name, as those who are advising you to stay away. However, in your monolog about what has been happening, you said ‘everyone’ is telling you to give Faye a wide berth. So…is it everyone, or just those two?”

He could see her point, “Maybe its more like everyone that matters. I haven’t made to many friends yet and right now everything even my work seems to revolve around Faye.” He let out a sigh, gods what was it with that woman, it was as if at times she was an all-devouring black hole.

When you were unhappy with a situation, it was normal to feel like everyone was against you, but it was her job to put things into perspective for those who utilized her office. “You also seem to be focused on Cochrane as the bad guy. He might well be, but it doesn’t sound like you are laying any of the blame at Calloway’s feet. Are you aware of that?”

—Rollo, CNS

He shook his head, “No I didn’t I mean is it really her fault? She did want to try at first at least but perhaps I was too forward, I felt under pressure to try and make her feel normal because it seems her mother, the Captain and some of the other crew treat her with such delicacy its like they dont respect her as a normal person and I thought I could help her by just being there but so far it seems to have just made things worse, for us both.” Luke paused thinking carefully, “And it just seems that when we’re together everything is great, it’s not perfect we argue and we sometimes dont see eye to eye but all our problems seem to be because of interference from outside influences maybe if they were just supportive instead of dismissive things could work out better.”

  • Lt Luke Wyat ,CoS

Wyatt was totally focused on his own feelings, which was alright in that particular setting. However, it was important that she guided him to see the bigger picture from other standpoints.

“I agree that sometimes life would be much easier if others just butted out, but let me propose another way of thinking about this situation. You said that you felt under pressure to make Faye feel normal, because others treat her too delicately, right? Your reasoning for this is a general feeling of disrespect for Faye from others. Try and entertain this idea for a moment. Faye isn’t treated delicately, she’s treated differently. Her mind doesn’t work the same way yours or mine does. I can’t reveal any particulars about her psychiatric makeup, but in general I can say she is absolutely respected by many of the crew and it is because of that respect that people take the time to approach her the way they do. Have you ever considered that you might be the one who’s treating her adversely instead of the rest of us?”

—Rollo, CNS

He thought about what she had said for a moment and having been presented it to him like that get couldn’t deny there was some method to the madness. “Well no I guess, perhaps your right but that just leaves me more confused on what to do?” Luke finally said shaking his head, “Coming here seemed like such a good idea but maybe I should have just stayed in the Alpha Quadrant.”

  • Lt Luke Wyatt, CoS

“Coming here was definitely a good idea, Luke, so don’t second guess it.” Zef reached up and brushed a wayward hair off her cheek. “As far as what to do? You might see if Faye would meet you in a neutral place, say…in the lounge, so the two of you can discuss the situation. The two of you could meet here with me, if you’d rather, but wherever the meeting is, remember to stay calm. She is as entitled to her feelings as you are to yours and anger will only make her defensive and you offensive. You’ve already told me that didn’t work, so try not to repeat it.”

—Rollo, CNS
