Brushing out her hair, it fell in its natural waves. Everything felt so intense right now, so even the act of pulling the bristles through the strands of hair was triggering memories. Breathing, Faye let them surface, and much like she did when practicing yoga, she acknowledged them and set them gently to the side. She could deal with those later. They would not help right now.

Still in the galaxy leggings and oversized chunky knit sweater, Faye padded through her quarters, settling in at her desk. Long and graceful fingers tapped the desktop as she worked up the courage to call. And courage it would take. Regardless of how this went, there was no scenario in which looking the man she had intense feelings for in the eyes and telling him about the man he reminded her of was in anyway going to be easy. Regardless of how they could spin Kodell and his affections, there was a part of Faye that understood the unevenness of their relationship. And she had been off balance in every relationship since, desperate to keep from being alone or pushing people away so they never got that close. One or the other. Nothing in between.

She didn’t want that here. And that difference was exceptionally important to her. It marked a new chapter where Faye felt that she deserved better and accepted nothing less. What that looked like though was a mystery. But she suspected, at least at this point in her life, that it looked a lot like the former Chief of Operations who had very quickly glimpsed her soul and never her wanting.

It terrified her.

But she promised Alex and knew this to be necessary. So, setting up the usual encryption, she sent a ping to his computer with a simple message. ||Call me when you are free. I’ll stay up as long as it takes. ~Faye||

She hit send and waited, grabbing a cup of coffee. Normally she wouldn’t disrupt her sleep with caffeine at this hour (especially given her meds), but Faye expcted this was going to be a long night.

It wasn’t. Less than ten minutes had passed before the screen came alive. So it was that shirtless and obviously surprised Daggum activated the comms and smiled broadly at the most welcome face he could have chosen at that moment. =/\= Hey you! How are you? =/\= and then his face turned concerned. =/\= Is everything ok, Faye? =/\=

She could be forgiven for her surprise as she was greeted with a swath of green skin. Her pale stormy eyes drank him in almost hungrily. It certainly was a pleasant surprise and she almost made a quip, but his question finally circulated through her brain. Oh, back to reality.

Okay. Was she okay? Well, wasn’t that the question of the century! Faye sucked in a breath, and compared to their previous conversations, there was a calmness to Faye that hadn’t existed before. She shook her head slowly. =/\=No… and yes,=/\= she said slowly, her words unhurried. =/\=I’m a lot of things right now. It’s been a really emotionally exhausting couple of days, Dag, but at the same time, good things have happened.=/\= The anxious part of her wanted to jump right into the story but no, that would do neither of them any good. =/\=But before I share more, if you’re up for it of course, I’d like to know about you first. How are you?=/\= she said with a warm smile.

His face scrunched up in a half-confused / half- emotionally drained look. =/\= You know, Faye… I really don’t know. And I also know I probably shouldn’t be saying any of this to you of all people but I am so strung out and confused and I don’t know what to do. I was kinda spending time with this one girl and she was adamant she didn’t want anything serious and that’s great because I didn’t want that… with her, anyway… and then she told me she loved me and I kinda freaked out and tried to explain that I didn’t feel like that for her -” Hammor’s words came faster and faster and his face looked so lost and so confused by this point, “- and then I tripped the new XO in the Lounge and she fell down with her butt all up in the air and I was super embarrassed so the next day I went to her office to apologize and when I came through the door the crazy woman was standing on her desk so I got a face full of XO butt again and then she shocked herself on a light and I tried to stop her from falling and I ended up grabbing her ass and then she KISSED ME, FAYE and I totally lost it and tried to just get out of there with my job intact and… and… =/\= and he looked at the screen… at Faye’s face… and just sighed heavily.

=/\= I just had a rough week and all I wanted was to talk to you. =/\=
