“Commander, before you go.” Cochrane said. “Perhaps some time to discuss between the two of them would be prudent?” and he nodded slightly to Faye and Strickland. “Agent Pikelsimer. Why don’t you and the Commander join me for a quick bite. Lieutenant, meet Commander Calloway in the auxiliary computer lab when you are done. Commander Strickland. Please join me in my Ready Room when you are free. And let’s reconvene tomorrow at 1200 hours to see where we are at. Dismissed.” and he stood up and gestured to the door.

Cochrane, CO

There were some nods all around, though Shara held something of an indifference towards Pikelsimer. “I think that sounds like a plan,” Strickland said, giving Faye a smile.

Faye was still weirded out by all of this, even though she knew without a doubt that it was Leroy. Yep, definitely some things to work out.

Left alone in the conference room, Faye and Leroy just sort of sat in silence. Each would look up on occasion and ponder the other, but it wasn’t until Leroy sighed that the silence was broken. “Come on Merc, let’s get out of here. I want to see this garden I heard you helped design. “

With a lopsided grin, she got up and they made their way to Deck Four. Inside the garden, Leroy took several steps before he stopped. Turning to Faye, he responded to her expectant look with one of wonder. “I don’t know what I was expecting, but this“-he gestured around them-“was not it.”

Faye couldn’t help but grin. “Great, isn’t it?” Leroy just nodded. “Come on, I’ll give you a tour.”

A little while later, after Faye excitedly showed him all the highlights, they found themselves in the grove of large trees next to The Pond. Sitting on an mossy area overlooking the water, the pair sat in silence for awhile.

“I hate that I missed hearing you talk about all this. Mission stuff aside, I always liked that we had a proper friendship outside of the rest,” Leroy said.

Though there were many words, Faye didn’t feel like they would come out. If she were honest, she was afraid of what she might say. Leroy elbowed her and Faye sighed. “I hate that even as I’m sitting next to you and I know without a doubt that it’s you, the Leroy I’ve considered to be a brother, I’m not sure I can trust you fully. That they did such a good job of tricking me that everything feels so…” She shook her head.

“You wonder if it’s all an illusion. If it’s really just the Tal Shiar still playing games with you,” Strickland said softly.
Faye’s gaze snapped to his and she opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out.
“Don’t worry, Faye, I’m not offended,” Leroy slipped an arm over her shoulders and pulled her against him.

Leaning into him, she sighed. “I hate that you know what I went through, even if it was different,” she said finally.
“Me too.”
“I almost left the ship to go find you.”
“I bet you did,” Leroy said with a smirk.
“My mom stopped me though. She was on her way to bring me to talk with the captain.”
“And how is that going?”

Faye’s pulled back and looked at him hard. “You knew about my mom?”

Leroy knew he had to tread carefully here but she did deserve to know the truth. “Not the whole of it, no. But I did know she was with Intel and I learned awhile after you escaped that she was the undercover agent that helped you escape.”

Forcing out a breath, Faye shook her head. “It’s been a lot.”

“I know.”

Looking out over the water, Faye sucked in a shuddered breath. “Everything is so much right now. Like it’s going to consume me whole. And yet I can’t imagine a place I’d rather for it to all happen, than here. It’s home,” she said, looking at him.

“I’m glad,” Leroy said quietly, though with no less emotion.

“So what about us? Happens now? What about you?” Too many questions and she wasn’t sure Intelligence felt the inclination to share the answers. If any of what Creed said was true, there was a group within Intel that saw her as far more a liability than an asset and she was on precarious ground.

“That ‘s a good question. I don’t know yet. But I think the covert part of your assignment is well and truly over, regardless of whatever else happens. Which means you really don’t need a handler. But it doesn’t mean I’m not here for you.” He gave her a squeeze.
