Faye smiled. “Well, luckily for both of us I’ve been getting a hefty amount of practice learning that things rarely are one thing. My brain wants things to be tidy and neat. Good or bad, one or the other. But shades of grey and all that. Maybe it’s not necessarily a good memory compared to others, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad one, right?”
“Yes, you are absolutely right,” Kiama nodded.
Gathering up some of the dishes into a stack, Faye eyed Kiama. “So, I’m going to help you clean up here first, but uh, up to you if you want some downtime, or want me to stick about a bit longer. I’m good either way.”

Rising to her feet to help Faye with the dishes, Kiama replied with a grin and a wink, “I’m fine either way as well, but at the very least you have to try the dessert I made.” Walking closer to her, she placed one hand lightly on Faye’s shoulder and continued more softly, “It’s been a difficult week for you to put it mildly and I want you to do what you want and what is best for you. If that is staying here for a while longer than you’re more than welcome to stay. If it’s leaving, then that’s what you should do. And if you like, maybe we can do something like this on a regular basis and one of these days I’d love to get a tour from you of the Arboretum now that it’s finished.”

Faye paused to really consider what it was she needed. While she had been exercising her social skills more frequently lately, Kiama was right, it had been a really intense time lately and as much as the support from those that cared about her (and she cared about in return) had been crucial, she also knew she needed processing time. She met Kiama’s gaze. “Dessert first, of course. I think it would be a crime to leave before that. But after that I think I should try to get some sleep. I could use all the sleep I can get these days.”
She held up a pointed finger. “But you’re on for a tour! I’ve already been using my medical leave to get extra work in there done.It’ll always be a work in progress, but the major plantings are done, as you saw at the ceremony.”
