Faye laughed one of those full-body laughs that could bring you to tears. With an ever-wide grin she met his gaze once again as he sat down. =/\=Well, I was just assuming that maybe you slept shirtless, but thank you for confirming the rest of that question for me.=/\= This time she did wink. Happy dreams to me, indeed.

Exhaling a breath that made her feel more relaxed than she had in a long time (years probably), Faye smiled at him. =/\=I’ll talk to Cochrane about leave, but in the meantime, I’ll send you the photos of the mushroom house. And Dag? For the record, the moment I knew I was in love with you was when I opened the crate with the Glo-orbs.=/\= The smile she gave him was full of genuine awe and tenderness and (surprisingly to her) certainty. She knew nothing about the rest, but their whole conversation had been like one giant puzzle piece finally sliding into place.

Touching her fingertips to her lips, she turned her hand to the him on the screen. =/\=Later, Dag.=/\=

Daggum put his fingers on the screen and said =/\= Later, Faye… I love you. =/\= and the screen faded to black.

Daggum Hammor, Ops Chief, USS Athena

Faye sat staring at that blank screen, but she could envision him so clearly that it was as if he was still there.

Several minutes later, she hadn’t moved and she was still present, but the emotions were so strong that they just suddenly erupted out of her body. Faye sobbed, much like she had in the mushroom house and this time it was full of relief.

When she had finally gotten herself together and checked the time, it was well after midnight. Alex said to come see him, but it was late and she didn’t want to disturb his sleep if he had managed any. So she sent a message that she was okay and they definitely needed to talk but it could wait till morning if he was sleeping. If he was awake, then he’d read the message and could decide for himself. She just didn’t want him to worry about her.

A few minutes passed and then her comms blinked. Alex had said for her to meet with him in his office at 0900.

With a soft smile, she shut down her terminal and got ready for bed. Unlike many of the other nights she had, she was more hopeful about, well, so many things. Tonight had been more about than just sharing an important part of her story, it had been a confession of sins. Or maybe just the perception of them. After all, what was moral and what was not was entirely a construct of the society you existed in. And hers had told her in different ways that the love she had felt was wrong. She still wasn’t sure how she felt about it all, but this was not something she was going to figure it overnight.

But Daggum had held her and those frightening bits of her story with such surprising tenderness that she though that Alex might be right. Maybe it had been okay, maybe Kodell truly had loved her and letting her go was the greatest gift of love he could give her. Where that left her in the aftermath wasn’t his fault, was it?
