The words were different, the person and their touch was different but in the strange coalescing that seemed to happen in her brain, Faye’s mind slipped. Just a little. It wasn’t that she was stressed either. But in his beautiful, oh-so-real words, there was a promise there. The promise of something more, of a future. The part of Faye that had only just allowed herself to feel her emotions so fully struggled to leap. There was the another part of her though that wanted to take his promise and run away with it… and him. Faye tapped the nail of her index finger on her palm rapidly he ran his words through her mind on a loop, letting them truly be heard. When you are ready.

Fifteen seconds, maybe thirty. Faye exhaled and nodded. “You and me,” she whispered, her eyes a torrent of emotion.

“From here on. And for as long as you want… even if that’s always.” Daggum said softly and he put his arm around her and pulled her into him.

“Okay,” she whispered. Closing her eyes, Faye nestled herself against his body, her head next to his chest. She could hear the steady beat of his heart and it was incredibly soothing. They stayed there for some time, and the silence was easy. She liked it.

“Come on, more to show you,” Faye said after awhile. Leading him back down The Hill, she cut through the large open grassy area amongst the main main in the central bed. It was the place, as she pointed out, where the awards ceremony had been held. Past The Pond and through the wooded grove, Faye led him to the far corner of the garden by the greenhouse and raised beds for the crew. And of course the mushroom house.

“I love that detail more than I can express, but I have to admit that the whole exterior resemblance was a little unnerving at first.” Faye looked back at him as they approached. “But what I love most is that you thought to look it up in the first place,” she said with a smile.

Daggum smiled back and said “It took some doing, but I’m glad you like it Faye. And I’m glad it turned out this good! You all did a great job on the assembly.” He looked around and nodded in satisfaction. It was put together well and the materials seemed to be solid. “So… do I get to see the inside in real life? Or only in a holo simulation?”

A throaty chuckle ensued and Faye slipped her fingers through his and led him inside. She let go of his hand as they moved down the stairs and she kept her voice hushed. “All the beds have been inoculated now. I of course took care of the Glow-orbs myself, as you requested,” she said with a warm smile tossed back over her shoulder at him.

When they came to the carving, Faye reached out and brushed her fingertips along it. “I cried… no, that’s not the right word,” she told him. “I wept when I saw this. I understood what you meant by it immediately, though I had to explain it to Alex,” she said with a fond smile. “I think it was one of those moment where Alex wanted to scream at me,” she said with a soft laugh. “I was serious when I said you were more emotionally intelligent than I am. It takes me longer to understand the way people express their feelings. And to be able to trust my own. He knew instantly that you loved me by this building. I… took more time to understand,” she said, a sheepish smile on her face.

“Good things come to those who wait.” Dag said and grinned at her. He held her hand and looked at it with her. “Yeah… I must have drawn this out a hundred times. Couldn’t get it right. Then one day I was doodling in my office while someone went on and one about biometric locks on their doors because they didn’t trust the ship’s computer or something… and I looked down and there it was. Guess I just needed to relax.”
